Welcome, sorry for the unfortunate occurrence, you're sure to get answers here, and if you've had enough of computer misuse, I suggest that you delete your email address and instead invite posters to PM you through this website.

if it was listed as domestic violence, then it might give you a bit of heartburn, at least here in Ga, otherwise it shouldn't hamper you.

I would follow the above advice and remove my email address though.

I'd suggest getting a pardon as I'd imagine your job options will be limited by it. Agencies that can afford to be picky tend to look for reasons to exclude a candidate rather than reasons to take one, since at face value many look alike. A less than totally clear record may get you knocked out of the running pretty quick. For example in Ontario you can't work as a Paramedic if they "have been convicted of any crime involving moral turpitude for which the person has not been pardoned" and/or "not have received, during the year immediately prior to the date he or she commenced employment, six or more demerit points recorded on his or her record by the Registrar of Motor Vehicles under the Highway Traffic Act;"

I have no clue for the NREMT.

New York State will, on a case by case basis, review any EMT applicants with any record (other than non-accident involved moving violations), but I don't know how they do with either misdemeanors or criminal act convictions, just that if you have a record when applying, or renewing, you must request such review.

I do know if you don't come forward with the fact you have a conviction, the state will come after you for something under document falsification.

In the U.S., Expungement is the more common method to deal with a conviction on one's record. It requires an attorney and a court appearance with a judge and is an easier route to take.

A pardon in the U.S. is a whole different deal with either the President or governor of the state.

Each state's EMS office will review your application and take it on a case by case bases. Acts of violence can be viewed in a different light than petty theft. Contact your EMS office for more details and/or call an attorney about an Expungement. If you are in a low income bracket, you may be able to get assistance from legal aid programs.

I have a misdemeanor conviction in 1986 that has never caused me a bit of trouble. I've been registered 3 different times and none of those times was my misdemeanor called in to question.

Just be honest and forthright on your applications and do NOT LIE about it. Just be matter of fact and you should do ok.
