You have a golden opportunity that I hope you do not let slip by. Find the "best" most aggressive service in your state, get a copy of their protocols, and then go a little better with yours. Liberal protocols can be used as a recruitment tool to attract medics to this service, and whats wrong with being able to brag that you have the best protocols (plus, you may not have to recreate the wheel too much if the other service has a really good set). I have always preferred the "flow chart" style of protocols, similar to ACLS.

I've seen worse politics in the hospital I worked at than anywhere in the EMS field. And someone who has been a LEO administrator, for instance, could probably do a good job as an EMS admin. I think if the person who wants to be the admin has experience as admin, then they would most likely do a better job than most street medics who promote to supervisor with no additional training or education as an administrator. I consider it a professional courtesy to not bring up my work if I get in trouble. I find it sad that police officers, fire fighters, and paramedics would put other people into a bad situation (the proverbial "Hey, why are you giving me a ticket, we're on the same side") due to their own, perfectly preventable, actions. I also think that if enforcement of the law is based, in part, by employment, that that law should not be enforced for everyone. If police officers don't want speeding tickets, then the answer is not to speed.

Don't apologize for the questions. It's good for us (okay, me) to keep my mind sharp.

Kyle - Have fun and take it as it comes. Control the nerves, and let the shift unfold. "Watching and waiting" for that trauma has your mind at the yellow to red all the time and you want to stay in the green to yellow until the call comes in...Its great that at your age your already are making positive goals and productive steps into a great career field or adjunct.
