  1. Watching the stuff on tv, and on FB, on Casey Anthony, I have to tell you that it looks more like a witch burning of 200 years ago than a trial of today. Bottom line for me? 12 of my friends and neighbors have decided that they had to allow her to go free so as not to risk putting an innocent person in prison. And I think that that took amazing courage. They watch the TV, the read the papers, and yet they decided to do what they thought was right despite knowing the pain and hate that it would bring them and their families. I would gladly shake their hands and stand by their sides. Is she guilty? I don't know. Yet I'm not willing to condemn the suspect, jury and judge based on the feedback from a bunch of talking heads on the news that lie to me daily. Send your love to the baby, but to call for this woman's head is to side with the likes of the Taliban, and others, that believe that suspicion is the same as guilt...and that is pathologic. I can't support you in your cry for a justice system that will put innocent people in jail instead of risk allowing the guilty to go free. Be angry if you must, but to bring your children to the gathering that calls for the death of a woman that has been found not guilty in a United States court of law spits in the face of all of our men and women of the military, those involved in law enforcement, that have lost their lives to protect your civil liberties.... Just my two cents... Dwayne

  2. This is a fantastic site filled with knowledgeable providers and endless amounts of experience. I have literally read the first forty pages of both the patient care and general discussion section of the site. That said I have been a basic for about ten years, in the world of hyperbaric medicine for 8 years and just recently finished my A.A.S to obtain my paramedic degree. I can't list the number of things I have learned from the site over the last couple of months but the threads on glucagon for anaphylaxis or the debates over oxygen toxicity/crashing our patients as we destroy their hypoxic drive. (one of my personal favorites given my hyperbaric background) Have you guys heard of IN glucagon? I have to be honest I have been a bit hesitant to dive in to the patient care as most the scenarios I find are all but answered but I can't thank everyone enough for their expertise and willingness to share their experiences. By the way Dwayne, I would have dropped the IO as well... (my poor attempt at humor but absolutely would have dropped the IO) edit: Unfinished when posted and needed to clean up grammer

  3. BAhahahahaha!, Thats just too funny! Dude, in nearly 4 years of being a career paramedic i have never had the urge to say "i'm saving critical patients LIVES" Your first aid crew must be doin some hard yards man, cause after a couple of thousand jobs under my belt theres only a handful of people i had who were really critical and only 1 that i can honeslty say was saved by our direct inervention. And you do take scene safety lightly, it isn't about going in with your first aid kit, OC spray and handcuffs, its about not going there in the first place.

  4. Wait wait wait, when you "medic" what kind of "medic" are you talking about Are you talking about "medic" as in a term applied by co-workers in some kind of industrial first aid sense or are you implying that you are a educated health care professional ie a Paramedic. Cause if its the former then i can see why us jumping up and down will be just plain wrong, but if you are in fact claiming to be a paramedic then you should quit right now. Its not about meanness, or downgrading or pointless or whatever else you posted, but for god sake, if you cant remember something as basic as first aid i wouldn't want you anywhere near me or a patient. You drop into a forum like this with this mind blowingly pathetic question (you have in fact possibly come up with the first ever "dumb question", given your apparent credentials) A forum full of career professionals asking a question that a boy scout would know the answer to, say you have "forgot" and then add on the end P.S Im a medic?? Can you not see what was wrong with that? I still call BS P.S. Im Batman EDIT : ok ok, ive flown off the handle, but frankly i dont care, im tired, hacked off, i have an infection where i got a needle stick injury last week and looks like i hit my finger with a mallet, my best friend committed suicide 1 month ago today and to top it all off ive gotta get soemone to shove a camera up my butt next week cause ive got blood coming from places it shouldn't - lifes not peachy but you need to harden up.

  5. Mr. Mike, I understand and will use every tool possible to help increasse my patient's care. I just want to be prepared in case of the obese pediatric patient (which is becoming more prevelent in todays society). I will gladly use the browslow tape as needed. But the problem with the browslow tape that I have encountered is that it is done on the "average" pediatric weight. I also realize that some of the drugs that we use are not on that list as well. I was not trying in any way, shape, or form to downgrade the browslow tape. I enjoy having that tool availabe at a moments notice, but some pediatric patients will far exceed the browslow tape measuring dosages. I was not trying to make any enemies or hurt any feelings with my post. If i ruffled your feathers I apologized immensly. I was looking for tips for taking the National Registry. Thank you for your comments. Mr. Dwayne, I am very passionate about providing the best possible care to my patients,. I have been a firefighter for almost 4 years now and I am a true believer in the phrase "Whoever applies the first bandage holds that person's life in their hands.", as it is written in the PHTLS book. I also understand not every call will be life and death. I have pushed numerous drugs whether pediatric or adult in clinical and field internship. Our school's program does clinical and externship hours while we are in class that way we can put our information from textbook and theory into actual use and practice and it really makes a difference. I know in my community there is no paid staff we are all volunteers. So to me if you are a volunteer you shoud still give the best patient care as any paid person. ( Not trying to open up that bag of worms by any means). I hope after I graduate to work as a career firefighter/paramedic. I appreciate your comments. I hope to be involved very much within the forums to gain as much information as possible.

  6. Could be a TIA. -Does the patient have any complaints? -What does the patient say about what happened? Who witnessed the episode? CNA or RN? Anyone else? What do they say happened? If it's the RN, I'd like to speak to her, please. =) And, most important of all: -What does the PATIENT want to do?

  7. I have to call BS. If you are really a medic, this would have been covered in your EMT course, your paramedic course and is even covered in every basic first aid course. Misrepresentation of yourself as a medic is not highly respected on these forums.

  8. Yeah, im arrogant i get that. But still, so much great stuff comes out of this site why would you ditch it based on a selection of negative comments? Seriously, if we had the same tree huggin "everyone tries there hardest so dont criticize it hurts my feelings" BS that other sites like EMTlife have id pack up and leave. If you want honest, come to the city, if you want someone to piss in your pocket, go somewhere else.

  9. Are you one of these hero guys? "hey, look at me, im in charge of a 20 thousand dollar medivac?" My patients get the appropriate care and transportation required without your theatrical "i make decisions that effect life and death" and they get to call me by my first name, that being the one i introduce myself as. Professional, succinct and approppriate care quite easily performed without them knowing my surname, is that too difficult for you to comprehend? Theres some great jobs being a fighter, I hear they like gloating about how awesome they are too. edited for stupid spelling errors LOL I'm batman...

  10. Look pal, just because YOU have never had a problem with people doen't mean other people have had the same easy ride. I have had some unsrupulous asshole used my name badge to find me and where i lived, in your words "Ive been there", and the end result for me isn't the same warm fuzzy land you ended up. It boggles my mind that you cant except that some people are uncomfortable with what equates to random strangers knowing your full name, who you work for and by default, probably the area you live in. Its sounds like such a no brainer im surprised you lack the ability to understand other peoples point of view.

  11. I'm sorry but I've been dealing with this in both an urban system and a rural system for years and have never known anyone to have a problem with there name being known. That gang banger that charged you doing an arrest? There not coming after you when the job is over. I've been there. Maybe every single experience I've ever had interacting with the public is the abnormal case but I've never had a reason to worry about someone coming after me. This sounds like such a no-brainer to me I'm surprised it's garnered so much discussion.

  13. I've never condoned the "EMS vs ___________________" mentality. It's this type of thought process that contributes to the poor view that others have of EMS in the world of public service. I've never found these types of videos even slightly humerous. If the author is in EMS, it would generally make me question their professionalism.

  14. Hey bushy, pal. There's some great jobs selling insurance if it's that rough for you. When your making decisions that effect life and death, 1000 dollar ground transport vs 20k medivac, painful electrical therapy vs long half-life meds, RSI vs cpap, etc ad nauseum, you don't get to be anonymous.

  15. Funny thing... none of the critical patients call me a wanker when I'm SAVING THEIR LIVES! I'm on a local outreach's group first aid team, so I have my own AED (they helped chip in for it). And no, I'm not a police officer... but where I live, the nearest police officer may be twenty minutes away (if he responds code 3), so the OC and handcuffs are a must. Scene safety is something we don't like to take lightly.

  16. Wow, you guys are the most terrible people in the world I will just reply again since I don't feel fair letting this be. I am a medic. Occasionally one forgets stuff. I do RECALL what was being said to me, and that's why I developed the instict since I remembered the idea was not to take it out. I think I remember a lot of stuff from my course, more than the average medic. I occasionally forget a thing or two -- it happens. One never remembers EVERYTHING 100%, sometimes a single fact may be a little blurry, is all. I can scan and show you my medic certificate if it helps, but I don't really see the need to verify my position to you. I don't see why you had to reply so viciously to someone seeking help. Whether it's medical help, or help in knowledge. That's pointlessly mean, downgrading, and seems to be of more destructive use than helpful use. Wouldn't you rather I get out of here with the confidence of knowing to take the right actions? But, I guess you rather insult me, doubt me, step on me, to make yourself feel just a little better about yourself. Well, I hope you're happy. I won't be posting back at this forum if this is the prevailing attitude here. I was just hoping to better myself. I guess it's not a valued virtue here. Ah, I just found this: "The first step to treating someone with a stab wound is DO NOT REMOVE THE IMPALED OBJECT if it is still inside the patient. This is the most important thing because the knife or object could be stopping whatever bleeding could be happening. If the object is still impaled, secure it the way it is on the body. You can do this by using a cup to brace it, taping it down to the body with rolls of cloth next to each side." I remembered correctly then See? No drama or time travel thank you. I guess spending more time googling is better then asking questions here. I tend to go by a lifetime mantra of "the only stupid questions are the ones you don't ask". Clearly that is not applied here! I still can't get over the degree of meanness! Do you guys create pain or alleviate it?
