  2. That is called student racisum, you were a student once and Im pretty sure you had an opinion, and by the way you act here Im pretty sure you voiced it or you would say to the effect "I cant have an opinion because Im black"

  3. As usual, you miss the point. First, there is no reason to be such an asshole to a new member who may have something to contribute. Second, he wasn't talking about giving a treatment from a providers point of view. He was discussing the topic at hand and explaining his experience as a patient. I'm not sure how the experience isn't valid even if he is just a lowly student who should be bowing before the paramedic gods.

  4. I always luv crotches out look on racisum. In BC we have a basketball tourny in Prince Ruper called the ALL NATIVE BASKETBALL TOURNIMENT.AKA holy week. This is for Indians only and you have to prove your an indian before you can play. Now us white folk AKA non-indian DONT GIVE A CRAP and we go watch the games and have a great time. Crotchity one thing I have notice is that it is YOU that dosn't like being black, it not us that don't like you for being black. So suck it up buttercup, deal with it and while your at it go and get some help because for anyone that goes out of there way to bring racisum in every god dam thread (sorry ruff) really needs some intensive therapy. Good luck and

  5. What he said. If you are going to dump money on a high end scope, it's about utility, not quality. They are all equally "better". And even the best doesn't make you any better at using it. Littmann on a noob tends to scream out "I haven't been doing this long enough to have my priorities straight yet."

  6. I always tell new folks to try it out for 6 months to a year depending on call volume to find out if this is REALLY what they desire to spend an immense amount of energy and time attending a 2 year Paramedicine program. to say nothing about the cost. Some can go right on and start the program , and others come to realize that having a drunk driver puking all over you and the truck is not all that appealing a career.

  7. Did anyone check the website for the fire department? They have a black man as an assistant chief (Nakeya Lovett, who was interviewed for the article). So here we have a southern, rural fire department who puts the black man ahead of the white woman. It's a crazy world we live in.

  8. Let me ask this question Why can't straight people make gay jokes when Gays do it all the time? Why can't whites or mexicans say the N word when Black people say that word all the time even in front of my children at various public functions? Why can Blacks say the word Cracker to a group of white people but when a white person says the N word he get's attacked or worse? Why isn't the Gay community up in arms when an openly gay actor plays a womanizing man on "how I met your mother" but when an openly straight man plays a gay actor he's chastised for it? Why can two black men made up as two white women in a movie yet when the idea is posed for the same but it being two white men it's deemed racist? These are all questions that I've asked as well as some of my friends ask. Why the double standard? Should there be a double standard?

  9. Get in school, there are few jobs in the world where you go to school for a few months, work awhile, go back to school, work awhile, go back to school, work awhile. Most schools produce educated employees that are green for whatever field they are going into (Accountant, RN, Lawyer, Teacher, etc....). But if you are truly concerned that you may not like the job, then I would vote as the others and continue working while taking some core classes, then go to Paramedic school when you are sure. And don't listen to all the "burn-outs" who try to talk you into going to nursing school instead.

  10. I've never had occasion to use them. There are other methods we can utilize if we suspect that the patient is faking unconciousness, like scraping the bottom of the feet, brushing the eyelashes and the 'hand drop' tests. I've heard stories from other crews about how they picked up a drunk during their shift and popped 3 or 4 of them into the NRB, and then laughed about how fast the patient 'came to'... Yeah, we've got to do things that will cause discomfort and even pain, but to intentionally do it is abuse. I've heard crew members talking about how they intentionally used the largest bore cath they had on a drunk, unlicensed pharmacist or the 'urban outdoorsman' just because they could. I find these practices appalling, and I'm utterly disgusted by those that feel the need to employ such tactics for their amusement!
