I am going through it right now. I did my physical, background investigation, and psychological test. So all that leaves is my medical. The physical is just the first step in the process. The physical consists of four parts. The first part is the stair climb. You go on a stair master for 3 mins and 15 seconds wears a 40lb weight vest. (and you cannot touch the handrails) However what they dont tell you about that part is that they make you do an extra minute before the actual test of "practice". The stair climb has to be passed in order to move onto the rest of the physical. This part is the most challenging and caused a few people to fail in my group going through at that time. The second part, considering you pass, is the arm lift. This test requires you to exert a maximum force with the arms. You are pulling on a bar with your arms for three seconds and you do it three times. It measures arm strength. The third is arm endurance. This test involves using maximum effort to crank an arm ergometer (similiar to bicycle pedals) with your arms for two minutes. You do it once. The last part is the leg lift. This is almost the same as the second test, but this one measures your leg strength in a squatting fashion. After you finish the entire test, they tell you to call back in a few days to get your final results and they hand you a huge packet. The packet is filled with your background investigation application and is very detailed and large. A few days after the test you also get a call from your background investigation. He sets works with you and sets up a date and time for you to come in, answer a few questions and give the packet it. Around that time you also get a testing date for your psychological test. Thats as much info as I can give you because thats as far as I go. But in relation to your question on how long you have to wait, I can give you somewhat of an idea. My physical was done in the beginning of February, and they mentioned that there is a TOP class starting in July, but they doubt I will get into that, so I am shooting for the October class according to FDNY. I hope this helps and feel free to ask any more questions, I'll try to help out. Good luck!
