good to hear. Was just up there yesterday, cant believe how bad it is. We lost about 50 feet of property to the creek and the pump and pumphouse bit the dust.

  3. Go play with your white, woolly, farm animals, Ben..
  4. I wonder if they don't mean that the telecommunicator told them not to use the AED while giving pre-arrival instructions?
  5. Someone died, what more is there to say? Perhaps a public beating of whom ever drove into the water? People in the public are too damn stupid, I see so many people driving through flood waters yesterday, to avoid a detour. In fact, he or she should be charged with the death of this EMT.
  6. Well, I consider a swift water rescue to be like a creek or a stream. Then, there's a river rescue. You don't attempt something, if you aren't properly equipped and trained to effect in the safest manner possible. So, if you're < those things, to do a rescue in a flooded river. Try. If you can't, well, that's life. It's gonna suck, BAD, for you, your crew, and the person that will probably die. You prolly won't get slapped, but emotionally, mentally, it's gonna be real hard - at some point.
  7. Measures wind speed
  8. We were forecast for up to 1/4" on Saturday and "around 1 to 2" for today. By 10am, we had EIGHT INCHES of rain, total disaster zone, our coverage is split in half, because of so much road damage; and the main link lost a bridge. The winds were supposed to be 10-20mph. We were recording like 30-38mph sustained winds with a Kestrel; and gusts around 60. Had 27 calls from 3am-1pm.
  9. That is exactly what came to mind when I heard the storm's name.. So, I came home from CD watch, and I'm gonna pop that in the DVD player! The deal behind PA's fifty ambulances was they could have them Friday, into today, only to evacuate hospitals and nursing homes. Of course, that all depends on who they're using. But I assume it was all STRIKE Team member crews. PEMA/Bureau of EMS agreed that they should be back in the Commonwealth by this afternoon, in case they're needed in PA. They're staging at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. I listened to the storm briefing on the PEMA Teleconference with local EMA and EMC's.
  10. I have all sorts of people refuse to cough it up.. Because they think they won't get a bill. I'll hand deliver the damn bill, it's not like we won't know where to find them.
  11. I was fine after a nap.
  12. Ever just feel tension building from so many ignorant people?
  13. You white people? Take a look in the mirror and you'll be staring racism right in the face.
  14. First Aid is a form of art, I'm anal about bandaging, unless there's blood squirting all over me. Then I use a pressure bandage...and when I can't see blood anymore, I neatly finish wrapping it. Depends on the size, type, cause; as to how it's bandaged...in my ambulance. I have on several occasions, not EMS calls, 'ditch doctoring' calls, just went ahead and glued or sewn things. Wouldn't do that for someone who called 911, but 3am, I'm drunk and fell, help me out, yeah, why not. How did I learn how to suture? You can teach yourself, if you lack a family member with a medical license; on the other hand, I learned from someone more qualified than youtube and an orange.
  15. Or.. They could take the last ten academy classes, and hire the best possible (score, fitness and performance) candidates from each class, say about ten each. Without knowing what color their skin is.
  16. Everyone, that's why I buy a box at a time.
  17. People die. If you want to be in EMS and really make money.. Join a profession that is a complete conflict of interest. Become a funeral director. Cash in on the inevitable....
  18. http://www.rocknrescue.com/acatalog/Russ-Anderson-Litter-Wheel-With-Frame.html It has a big turn screw in the center, and attaches to the rescue basket. IMO, it's a pain in the posterior. Because then you're lifting the patient and the wheel. The basket is light as a feather, as far as rescue baskets go anyway. Then there is the deal of carrying it in, it ain't light. 30lbs may not be heavy where you stand, but carrying it for several hours isn't a task anyone wants. It may seem the smart thing to put all your shit in the basket, and walk it in attached. No, slow going, it's slow going with a patient. Everything that goes in, except the basket, is in backpack form. Ropes, rigging, haul systems, medical stuff; all in nifty bags to ease access and necessitate quick storage, when you have to set up, haul, tear down and move to the next location.
  19. That video is so cool. I'm stealing it. I believe you can use the body vacuum mattress in place of the spine board. It's also more comfortable for patients when you're moving them by 6x6 RTV; or carrying with an Anderson Wheel in operation. Though, kinda big to pack in.
  20. A knee dislocation on a trail rescue was the only time I've ever used the PO medications from the AW-EMT kit. However, it wouldn't be a possibility to treat or reduce again, b/c all of our certifications expired on 1-1-11. I used the cert maybe twice, so I'm not going to re-certify. The patient didn't require it, good SMC. However, in placing the patient on a board (b/c even chest pain patients get immobilized), the knee slid back into place, and then... He was in worse pain than before. >2HR Hike, WEMSI Protocol goes into effect. I should add.. The plan was to immobilize in place. It didn't work out, leg was flat, and it sort of pulled back into place. That is a knee weakening sight!
  21. We have a single piece, hinged splint for dislocations; but I'd suggest a nice fluffy pillow, folded if necessary. It almost appears as thought there is also a humerus fracture. I wouldn't be sitting there like that, I dislocated my shoulder when I was a kid. Passed out. Great thing to do when something really hurts, if it doesn't hurt that bad, looking at it usually helps complete the process of syncopy.
  22. I buy hot pink shears, Moore brand, by the box. What the difference between them and any other pair? They're pink? Just remember, Trauma Shears are for clothing... Bandage shears are for bandages. Neat bandage ends, no strings.
  23. Ditch Doctor. University of Cowflop Corners.
  24. Yep, clearly the wind. I'd say that was an unusually strong breeze, though. Maybe a straight line wind or down burst? The roof must have acted like a kite, lifted, collapsed. I hadn't seen any videos, I've been busy all week/weekend.
  25. If a Thunderstorm could collapse a structure, I wouldn't be living in a four and a half story, completely wooden, 127y/o building.
