  1. So... Explain this to me. We're in the ambo, going toward ALS, providing the Stare of Life. Driver yells back "30 years ago, we'd start rotating tourniquets"...and on we go. Throws stuff out like that from time to time. Explain to me "Rotating Tourniquets"..and go.
  2. How many hospitals are there in NYC? Cardiac centers? Are you ever an extensive distance from one, not taking traffic into consideration?
  3. If I told my driver to go "Code 3", he'd ask what the hell "Code 3" meant.

ask him if he knew what addlepate was

eh, I feel like everyone uses different terms... if I said that here, most people would look like I had 3 heads, they only use "hot or cold" here

  4. Is there like a glossary for abbreviation translation? Maybe it's just b/c I've been up all night. Penna http://www.portal.st...ve_11-01-08_pdf NYC http://www.nycremsco...intArticleID=81
  5. The local hospital staffs two MICU's, during the day; and one at night. But there's always an extra medic on duty.. Often when they send a unit out to assist ambulances, rather than to actually transport, it's just a medic.. and someone from the ambo being assisted has to bring their unit back. The duty of that extra person is to register the ER patients; and assist with assessing, etc. of the ppl that walk into the ER. I guess I read this, as your system "maximizing it's resources". Can't use the slang for EMS, Earn Money Sleeping, anymore.
  6. No. You saved a life. Someone is alive, because, using your skills, you intervened. Going by the old school sentiments of doing the job, and never giving up... Anyone near death, that improves to the point where they were at the same quality of life they had prior to said incident which caused them to be near death. Read it twice, it makes sense... Is a life saved. They don't have to be resuscitated from arrest of heartbeat or lung function, to be saved. We all save so many people, that we have come to only celebrate it when someone is resuscitated from cardio-pulmonary arrest. Congratulations.
  7. Do we have a MAST on board? Just sayin'.
  8. I've never met anyone named Mohammad. But welcome to the city anyway, perhaps, Papa Hotel Uniform Charlie Kilo.
  9. 2x2 is being too generous. It looks like a dark gray box.
  10. What's the ETA on my chopper?
  11. I wasn't kidding.. Fly her. And if ur using a NRB like a paper bag, at least use 6LPM.
  12. Cheating. Cheating. Rural... Hell, I have to wait 30 minutes for a paramedic. Go outside and make sure the Cadillac is still running; then land a helicopter in a field of the 1500 acres.
  13. I'm edgy, I've taken A LOT, likely double the 24hr dose of several cold meds. So I may be offensive, defensive, loopy or difficult to understand. Thank "God" for auto spell check, eh? Anyhoo. Ittabeaight.
  14. I didn't resurrect it.. I was just making a sarcastic reply about the failures of certain EMS systems.
  15. You're better off moving to one of the Dakota's, South I believe, where you can use any vehicle you want as an ambulance... and all of the required supplies, sans stretcher, will fit in one bag. Either way, one of the Northern Plains states has an EMS code which hasn't be updated since the 1970's, allowing for anything from a hearse to an Freightliner to be used. Start there.
  16. Old topic, I'm sure it's over and done with by now... However. Spilling your beer is a mistake. Driving, at a high rate of speed, while intoxicated - by any measure - is a decision, not a mistake. I strongly disagree with anyone plea bargaining a DUI. You do it, you pay for it, and don't do it again. People die, every day b/c of DUI, punishment may save another life down the road.. The first life (and possibly countless others) was saved, when the officer intervened.
  17. I see it.
  18. Oh... Citrus II.. Totally discolors vinyl, and trying to cover that up with Armor-All, is a terrible idea. Just sayin'.
  19. Yeah. Troll, knew it from the start... Granted I'm not in the military, but I've certainly never been accused of being mentally ill.
  20. Def gets waxed before winter, easier to clean. Usually gets rinsed after a call, weather permitting; washed good once a week, inside is cleaned after every call. I'm real fussy about that, b/c I got an infection in a finger once from the stretcher mount.
  21. I can access the EMS Leaders/Officers/Managers website that either the DOH or PEHSC runs.
  22. I hate the "Holidays". All of them. In fact, I've hated 2007-2010, as well. If I could be sedated till X-Mas is over, I would.

Today, a petty low life filed charges against me b/c they claim something was missing after they were cut from an auto..and I was the only one who treated, making me the prime target. About the only good thing that can happen, is if I wake up, either dreaming at it's actually 2006.. or I just don't wake up.
