  1. What was "Goth" a decade ago, is "Emotion" now. Emo. Nemo is that fish. It's a cultural style, has a different meaning to everyone.
  2. Goodbye, till we meet in that big EMS lounge in the sky, old friend.

  3. No, I'm no hypocrite. I'd have said similar things If I thought someone harmed a patient out of disrespect. I was a prep myself, dyed my hair blonde, dressed beyond my means. Fit in where need to, it's their life to live or ruin. It's our job to put the wheels back on the track, in case they want to get to the next station.
  4. Certainly a loss to our little family here. Rest in peace, friend.
  5. Why are they cutting it? Shouldn't they be clogging it?
  6. I wanna know how to make a traction splint, with a SAM Splint.
  7. Misunderstanding Alert. I didn't say what was wrong with the patient, b/c that wasn't the purpose of my quip. I don't post when I cut a trauma victims clothes off.. There was swelling, bilaterally, they were stretched so tight I just barely got the tip of the pen cap/pocket doo hickey under them. I cut them so as to restore color and use to the hands. I was just sharing my story of how I coined battle scared silly bandz. They're annoying. If the patient already had them on "tightly" b/c of arm size, consider what will happen if the extremities swell. Thanks for assuming I hate the patient b/c the patient wears black. Thanks for making me feel bad, I should have said that I cut them off b/c it was medically necessary. But since it's a big fad now, I thought I'd share my first experience with silly bandz. They stretch, but not enough, dozens of tiny tourniquets.. I've been an EMT for eleven years, paid and volunteer. Never had one complaint from a patient. I have my own way to go about things, I'm big on the statement in our protocols that allow to form them for the best care of the patient. I like to be able to go home and ask myself if I did the right things, and I did that best I could. The same protocols, b/c they aren't shaped for rural EMS, ended my week badly. They didn't allow me to save my patient, b/c of a technicality.. I thought this was a funny story, not too often can you get a funny bit out of a horrible situation. They don't teach how you talk to someone who doesn't want to see tomorrow. Nowhere does it say that I didn't like the patient. The pt., lacked appreciation of life, per se. I tried to pull them off, got one of those cause bands off. But the others were screamin', said I'll buy ya new ones kid, but they're coming off. I do that sometimes, if someone says it's my only good pair or.. or my only good.. I feel guilty and offer, once I obliged. I got called stuff that would make a preacher faint. The pt. was pissed, but when I told the pt. what (the pt) could do with them now, well that was funny, and it opened a rapport, more info was spilled out, and that was that. But nobody wants to hear about that.
  8. Cost. Can't put a price on a life, but you gotta be able to afford equipment, in bulk.
  9. What the hell are these things the kids are wearing on their wrists? Had one that was wearing at least fifty of these Silly Bands on each arm, in addition to a number of "cause" bracelets. I cut them all off, instantly pissed off. But my first aid for 'emo bandz', is telling them to knot them back together and call them "battle scarred bandz". So, I hereby coin that phrase, but feel free to use it in order to calm them down. HA HA lolz
  10. The Splint, Aluminum, Malleable, ha ha, is not my favorite tool, but SAM products are quite handy. I would not consider it's use, no matter how well someone sold the idea, for a femur fracture. I wouldn't make a SAM Collar out of it either. I have done so in training, and I determined it unacceptable. I would marvel over it, if they made 18, 24 and 36" inch SAM's, that are 15" wide. That would be the cats ass.
  11. Goddamn power went out during an electrical storm... three hours ago... PA is pushing TK and Hemostatic product use now. A lot of new providers think TK use is something that's just being introduced, but it was always taught, just looked down as a thing of the past. I "grew up" in EMS with a lot of really OLD providers, live in a very rural area, and have been trained in Wilderness medical care. I could make a TK out of just about anything that is pliable and can be drawn taut. Before, it would have been, direct pressure till you were out of strength, then a TK as a last resort. In our whole county, we were probably the only units to carry TK's, until about six months ago. However, they were likely from WWII, the old webbing and buckle type. I kept several for kicks. The SOF Tac. TK uses the same design, with a couple additions to make it work better. That's what we carry now. We're to use a hemostatic product, direct pressure. If that fails to work with in a minute, slap on a TK, wait five minutes, loosen the TK, and likely by then, the bleeding should be pretty well stopped. If not, I have some of my own methods that work pretty well. Like a tray of gauze squares, saran wrap, and a roll of elastic wrap. Laugh if you must, but it's worked for me before on a forehead lac. If you really want to get technical, you can "suture" the scalp, in the field, with the patient's hair by tying it together. It works. I am definitely a tourniquet fan. The new stuff they have on the market is just the bee's knee's. Progressive Medical has a nice selection!
  12. .. Me.. On the telephone system. A village here still uses "LA-5-3-" for their numbers, it's in the phone book that way, on signs, etc. LAKE. You'd be fine on a regular phone, b/c the numbers coincide with the letters. But on most cell phones, or if you were born in the past 20 years, you're screwed.. There are less than 300 phone lines in the resort town.

  16. Go ahead and drive, but stay in New Zealand and do it it.
  17. I have a small, but expensive LED package. It is excessively bright, even in direct sunlight, fog, dead of night. It's hard to miss.
  18. That's only 1/10th of the units for that EMS region, and all of them were off duty. There will always be ppl off duty, and reserve units.
  19. Can you imagine? That could wipe out entire services! I wonder how one gets by as a paramedic, for long periods of time, with no education or training at all?
  20. Infx came after I spent the night itching it, unknown to myself of course, as I was pretty well out from all the DPH I took. Used an epi-pen, but it was a bit expired and failed to work, luckily it didn't get that bad.
  21. Gender:Female Probably
  22. It calculates error to determine if the image is created or real. Anyhoo.. Great companies? Stat? Pfffttttt
  23. AAP states that it was taken on the PGH runway, and it is not computer generated.
  24. Call the nearest airport, when it comes to human life, bye-bye bee's. Large carbon dioxide fire extinguishers, or foam, will do the job. I got stung last week, by a mud wasp, actually became infected after I scratched it in my sleep. It gave me hives, made my throat itchy, dizzy, tachy.. I went to my PCP, to get a new rx for Epi-Pens, I always carried four of them. He wouldn't get me a script for ONE. He said if you have an emergency call 911, or go to the ER, people shouldn't treat stuff at home. Well, that's all fine and dandy, but suppose I die waiting to get to help. He said, well, drive fast. Literally, I shit you nawt. So, I'm waiting to switch doctors, I actually had to pay $90 for that ass bag to tell me that. What I should do is get stung, then sue him for something. That's what everyone else would do. Actually, if you don't want to harm the bees, despite human life being in danger.. You should have a bee keeper outfit on an engine, or a roll of duct tape and a couple old sets of turn out gear.
