  1. That's a good film, just watched it. Thanks for the link!
  2. That wasn't a documentary, that was early-on reality TV. I still think HIPAA killed it too. You're better off with a book. There are a lot of books that detail the trials of EMS. Amazon, eBay, Borders.. The Paramedics, Omaha Orange, The Ambulance... Or documents.. that started it all (FREE) Accidental Death and Disability; The Neglected Disease of Modern Society http://books.nap.edu...id=9978&page=R1 If you can get your hands on Farrington's Death in a Ditch, that's a good read too.
  3. If we left people as we found them, someone would have to start making SAM Splints the size of backboards. Leave it as you found it, has a place in EMS, but I disagree with leaving every patient with their head in an odd position. Why not go back to the old days, and just man handle the trauma victim onto the cot, with a pillow under their head.
  4. Wow. Don't f**k with her, she means business.
  5. I always make the cop who wishes to recall us, sign the trip sheet. If they won't permit us access to the patient, which has happened, I make them write that they accept full responsibility for the life of the patient, by denying EMS care. Literally, only once did that not get us access to the victim. If need be, replace responsibility with liability.
  6. One thing you should also be aware of, in any ambulance, is the weight limit your stretcher can handle. I've seen people put 650lb patients on stretchers with 500lb weight limits. They think it's okay, lowered all the way down, but it still buckles the frame.
  7. Honestly, I've never heard of it!
  8. That's kind how I got the idea to check into them. I found a set in the base of my Dyna-Med Trauma II Kit.
  9. Where did I say that? Don't put words in that aren't there.
  10. Some agencies use a charity account to pay bills, or write off bills of people who just can't pay. Those that can, and won't, collections. Large EMS systems need to have their own Collections Agency. Time to get what's owed.
  11. Has anyone actually used these: Pros, cons, information basically. New industry in the area, may be worthy to have better equipment. Currently, we carry no burn kit. We have what's required by licensure, and that's it. A recent call sparked some feelings that maybe we need a small supply of burn dressings, other than sterile sheets. Burn Gel, Water Jel, etc., are not possibilities. I did order some LSP Burn Towels, but that's about it.
  12. Yanno what you should do?
  13. Why would Emergency Management investigate it anyway? It's not something that affects the masses. Indiana must have clumped all their safety offices into one organization. I dunno about H.S.. I like "Civil Defense" better. Has a better ring to it. Homeland Security sounds like an insurance company.
  14. It was from a hospital.. Maybe they used DHS funding to pay for said vehicle?
  15. Wow.. You're just having all kinds of problems. I think you're dying.
  16. After seeing a LG video on TV, for a while, I wasn't sure if it was a man or a woman.
  17. We have been using our own version for nearly ten years. It works very well.
  18. These pictures y'all are posting keep popping up in Chat. Log in...
  19. Does Russia even have an organized EMS System?
  20. No, I was just replying to what the CehNehDeh dude posted. But, thank you for taking the time to tell us that. What would we do with out you?
  21. Get one of those Vietnam era choppers from federal surplus and run a dustoff service.. using old, retired, corpsmen and combat medics, with no modern training. Say that you choose not to recognize the fact that it's 2010, rather than 1968.
  22. If the person is holding c-spine, then I want a direct, face to face communication and in depth report on what they have. I don't care if they're a boy scout first aid instructor or a trauma surgeon, they're in control of the most important (at the moment) function. The first thing they may say, is "don't get too close, he'll hit ya". I would want to know what. I'd take their report, then do my own size up of the victim.
  23. Why look them up online, I have a genuine FEMA ICS Municipal EMC Test Answer Key in the desk drawer. I'm sure that I could help you correct your test.
