Seems only like they are psych patients. Maybe persons being transported to psych hospitals, need to be fully restrained until they are with in the facility?

Well, it is a Killer Whale. Some things deserve to be left where they are found.. Like animals, fish, et al; that can kill you, there's no reason on the Earth, why you need to train a fricken whale.

Instructor? Dispatch? ER Tech? Wheel Chair Transport? Four years into being an EMT, I protruded and herniated several discs from L3-S1 lifting a patient b/c additional help wasn't a possibility. That was seven years ago, and through exercise, smart lifting, pain management with steroids and time, I'm doing the same thing I was before I was injured. It's possible. Wanna be a nurse, do it. Look into alternative treatments, synthetic discs, etc. Never know what will come along.

The trouble is not worth the expense. Besides, if your only lighting is on the front, then nobody else around you is aware of why you're driving as you are. Making for another dangerous situation. A single beacon, visible 360°, is all you should need, if it's just that. Needed. I, personally have no issue with vehicle lighting, provided you're only using it to be seen, while sitting on or along a highway. A Kojak light should be fine for that. If you need it for response, then it should be bolted to the vehicle. If it's magnetic, then it's not meant to be used while not stationary. I know they can be, and they are used that way, but DOT and Mfg. guidelines do state, they should not be used on moving vehicles; regardless of whether or not that is followed.

The goddamn Quick Response Services do that crap. I hate that! Like WTF, if you want to make transport decisions, get your own damn ambulance.

If they don't answer the door. We're coming in. Whether they like it or not. Maybe with the cops, maybe not, depending on the details.

If one were to look for the most likely people to blame for an ambulance not being able to get somewhere, because the snow was too deep.. I would look toward the agency with in said municipality, responsible for plowing the streets. Locally even, they try to give us at least one lane. One foot is better than three. Of course we have equipment to make snowbound rescue. I doubt Pittsburgh does. That's not typical snowfall for that region.

That doesn't mean it's there for EMS. It means it's there for First Aid/CPR/AED trained employees to deploy.

I use one b/c our radio transmission system is horrible, lots of dead spots, and I live in one. It's a system that was poorly planned and is known for failure. So, the scanner gives me the added advantage that I don't get with a home alert device. A big antenna. But I only "scan" our own dispatch and tactical frequencies. I don't care what everyone else has going on, if they wanted me to know, they'd call for help.

To best answer that, since the definition of the duties of an EMT vary from state to state, a better idea of your geographic location would be helpful. EMT is a great career, if you're in school (college/Univ). If you're shooting for solely an EMS career, aim higher. Not that there's anything wrong with being an EMT for a long period of time. Cost varies also, I've seen where people paid over a grand, or as little as fifty bucks. The best EMT's, come from small class sizes. You're limited as far as what you can do, but doing those skills well is the key to making the most out of the training. One can still be an effective BLS provider, especially in areas where you're the sole provider. Otherwise, it's best to also be a prudent driver as well.
