  1. Summary: The personnel and patient were in the back, and the drunk took off for a joy ride around the parking lot. That's great. We have a switch so that when someone touches something, the vehicle shuts off and you can't remove the key or restart the vehicle. It's easily engaged or disengaged, when one is informed how to do so. However, without said knowledge, you'll be sitting there for a while with a dumb look on your face.
  2. As soon as we figure out that they won't faint at the sight of blood, vomit at the odor.. of vomit, or faint in a stressful situation.. You're golden.
  3. Boggle? What, is it 1985 there? Prolly watching the latest season of Rescue Me on DVD, over and over. I'm a firefighter, I can say that.
  4. Put me on an EKG for a while and mixed in a normal rhythm, you'll see a PVC or two. I'm not treated for anything.
  5. Acting on my swinging rope humor, per se, I thought it was funny. There are quite a few of these floating around, often depicting the frustration with substandard care we see in some nursing homes. In the OP's defense, and myself having an Xtranormal account, there are no "actors" with EMS uniforms. The fireman is as close as you can get, aside from the nurse, cop and doctor. This should have gone under funny stuff, though, not EMS Discussion. One could argue that humor is a defense mechanism used to combat stress.
  6. It looks like a massive cell phone. Too much to accidentally touch and screw the whole thing up, as I recently discovered. I can dial, by just shifting in my seat, no matter where the phone is on my person.
  7. That was invented more than 30 years ago. Things get phased out of use entirely for reasons known to that era. Find someone that gave it up and ask why.
  8. We have a stack of 5lb Ferno sand bags in the closet.. Like ten pairs.
  9. Resusci Anne Resusci Junior Baby Anne Husband... Rescue Randy Resusci-Rover?
  10. I'm still very meticulous about spinal immobilization and try not to apply something that in effect, stretches the head upward. Nearly every patient, a 'neckless' collar fits perfectly. I cringe when I see people fitting a 'regular' collar onto patients, b/c they assume it's the standard size. We use a the vinyl/foam blocks for patients being flown, and these for patients going by ground. I actually like these better, b/c there is significantly less Velcro for blood, vomit and hair to get trapped in. I have to wonder what would replace the cervical collar.
  11. Just posing a question... out of curiousity. This really doesn't apply, just hypothetical questions, scenarios, etc. Now with all the "you didn't help me, I'll sue you" cases.. Do you think this will create a surge in such cases? I'm sure thousands of EMS workers, everyday, pass by or stand and avoid getting involved while off duty. If later identified, for not offering aid, could that open one up to legal ramifications? Will the excuse that you didn't do mouth to mouth b\c you had no mask, on a patient who wasn't breathing, but had a pulse, still protect you? How about you have broken skin on your hands, and didn't offer to stop bleeding, because you had no gloves? These are a couple reasons why I NEVER wear anything that will identify me as an EMT, while I'm not in direct performance of such duties, while "on call".
  12. http://www.jems.com/news_and_articles/news/2010/01/firefighters_find_priority_4_victim_still_breathing_during_body_recovery.html Maryland. Although, in PA; our protocols use the wording, obvious death, to include incineration. I wish the article explained his injuries a little more. Any injury could be "life threatening", even burns to two extremities could be with infection and whatnot. Not defending them, a stethoscope would have worked, had they not been able to feel for a pulse. Clearly, if there was a fire, there could be obstacles which would make doffing firefighting gloves and touching things, dangerous. I can't imagine, if he was breathing on his own, the whole time, the toxins, smoke, water, heat; inhalation.
  13. I wonder what the TSA would say, if when approached by them, you told them you were allergic to Latex? (They always wear gloves)
  14. Well, it does have some flaws. But it's better than "Diagnose me", "I'm gonna hurt myself", "I'm sitting in the ICU next to myself", "I died", "I could never be an EMT, et al, but have a fetish for it and only play WOW while living with my 90 y/o grandma".. Chat.
  15. You get penny, cut partially in half, and a broken pair of trauma shears. Puts a quarter in.
  16. You get a zombie boy who likes turtles. Puts a quarter in.
  17. One show, out of dozens, that helped EMS.. In a time when EMS simply did not exist in many places. They were used to seeing the hearse in most towns, and they suddenly saw this, and wanted to do better. But, mostly, I was being sarcastic. I just finished watching an emergency episode. Ironically, it did in their original plan. Paramedics, paramedics everywhere nope. Not enough money? Too many miles? Volunteer EMT-1's w/ CB's.
  18. We should get every TV show that has EMT's, Medics, or even ambulances shown, taken off the air.
  19. I've cut a 4' wide sheet of 6 gauge aluminum, in half, with a fairly cheap pair of trauma shears... They could certainly be used to kill someone.
  20. Wait till he fails the grade, and she see's the bill for his counciling.. She'll probably make him kill himself, with the hammer. When someone hurts a child, either physically, sexually or mentally; there should be a punishment that causes pain, equal pain. Like, maybe, in a sterile, medical environment, with no pain control, having a finger crushed with a orthopedic hammer. This is so wrong, in so many ways, that it's unfathomable. What kind of a cruel person would make a child kill a pet?
  21. You get a snotty rag that was jammed in the slot, and a rainbow colored ball Puts in a quarter
  22. You get one of those squishy things with the stringy like part that you throw and it sticks to about anything. Puts a quarter it
  23. Well, they can buy that stuff on EMTCityBay. Get it? HA HA HA
