  1. That's kinda' how it works. Stepping stones, giving them the choice to go into more technical rescue practices. Before they could move on to advanced courses, they need the awareness course. In fact, the prerequisite for every NFPA course are awareness courses in safety and hazmat.. On the contrary, they are being taught to be skilled enough to not get killed, that's the whole idea. They get taught the basics, go through some classroom time, then some hands on evolutions, knots, etc.. It's not all lecture. It prepares them to take Ropes 1.. which prepares them for Ropes 2.. which prepares them for high-angle rescue techniques.. and so on.
  2. I suppose it's possible, that such an event could have lead to a fatal heart attack, if as CNN says, he had heart disease.
  3. I wonder how many truly innocent people were sentenced to, and had carried out, the death penalty?
  4. Conspiracy theorists, piss me off!
  5. In today's fuel economy, the latest mid-life fad is the motorcycle.. Maybe you could get a police motorcycle to go with your car? Join the Rescue Riders, I'm a member, and I wouldn't even get on a motorcycle for a stack of cash. Trauma Teams frighten me.
  6. Judging by the size and the bark, I'd say it's an Oak. Good ladder making material. We still have oak ladders on the wagon.. Anyhoo.
  7. I know a LOT of people who die at age 50. Like have a family history, of dying at age 50.. Like they dwell on it so much, that before they turn 51.. It kills them. Luckily most of the elders in my family are in their late 80's and 90's.. Had a few make it to early 100's.. Guess I'm gonna have to stop exploring abandoned coal mines.. I wanna live to 102..
  8. It's all merely coincidence..
  9. I want some... I offered to trade a defibrillator (don't ask) for (something that you don't need to know about) but I haven't gotten a response yet. That seems to be one tool they all want, but few seem to get their hands on. It's only a matter of time.
  10. Crime? What are they going to do? Arrest Mother Nature?
  11. Find a nice private company, in a suburban area.. But, IMO, if you go rural-career; after working in a city.. You're gonna burn out again.
  12. Who?
  13. Oh.. It gives the name... My first guess would have been Dr. Kevorkian! Hrmmmm.. Gotta wonder, if maybe, perhaps.. I can't wait to see the tox results!
  14. ..and Blue is often assimilated with being sad. Therefore, the sky being blue will no longer be associated with happiness.
  15. You're being too positive. Like ass kissing positive.
  16. Took this today while out assessing flash flood damage to township roads. I assisted it off the roadway.
  17. Actually, that's what I was thinking too..
  18. You should go to Nelson, and see if you can rent the movie Roxanne. It's only about ten hours away... Congrats.
  19. Sick.
  20. Well.. A fly is an animal, technically.. But I think we can do with out a few here and there.
  21. Who will be next? Which major Hollywood Celebrity will be next to go?
  22. I was quite fond of his music back in the 80's.. and really i still am. He may have gotten some bad reputations and became freak-like, probably molested children - in fact it seems rather obvious in some interviews.. But, I still like he music.
  23. The actress of my favorite ambulance-containing movie, The Cannonball Run, has died with in the past 35 minutes.. According to CNN. http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/TV/06/25/o...cett/index.html
  24. I've had turtles.. Not to sound like a hick from the boondocks or anything, but when I was a kid, a big thing to do was own a turtle to take to "Turtle Races"... PETA would just love that. Most people will say, that when a turtle latches on, you should cut it's head off.. But that could scar the kid even worse than the bite - which can be pretty bad. You have a few choices, more or less, someone is going to get hurt. The victim, or the Turtle. See, they don't have any teeth, but their beak like thing is kinda like a pair of tin snips, I'm sure if they got a good grip, they'd take a chunk or a part of the finger off. You could just sit.. and wait. Once you leave him alone, he'll probably let go once he doesn't feel dangered anymore.. Try blowing air (o2) in it's face, to make it hide in the shell. or.. Kill it. If you don't have any drugs to sedate it that is. Now the bite. You gotta disinfect the hell out of it, b/c some turtles have toxins; or can pass along some really nasty infections and diseases. Irrigate and carefully scrub at the same time. Yeah, it's gonna hurt, but that's life and the only way to clean a wound. The people who make those little field guides, Informed, sell an animal version. Maybe you could keep one on hand in the station, near a phone. Doubt it will have anything on turtles. Call a vet; or Dept. of Waters/Streams/Fish Commission/Etc. http://www.informedguides.com/index.cfm?ev...uide%26trade%3B
