  1. Is it really necessary to link to that story? Honestly..
  2. My condolences to the Squad and her family..
  3. Really?
  4. Here's something, hypothetical, unrelated; suppose the child refuses further treatment? Do you force him/her into it, knowing the treatment (Chemo) may end his life earlier than it may by letting it go; or do you upold his/her wishes to just die, and not be resuscitated? My great uncle had a small tumor near a kidney. He was in perfect health otherwise, they found it by accident, doing an MRI for an unrelated injury. He wanted to have it removed, and the kidney if necessary. His doctor urged him to go through radiation and chemotherapy, before he was willing to just take the tumor out. It was about the size of a grape. Removing it would be risky, but then again, cancer itself is death eventually. He was truly in good health, he was active, not over weight. Suppose he had refused the treatment, and had the surgery; we'll never know.. He may have had a short lease on life, but at least he would have had some more quality time with his family. He had ONE (1) chemo treatment, came home exhausted, nauseous, vomiting; and died an hour later of a heart attack.
  5. I bet you wouldn't be saying that if the accuser was a teenage girl, or even a female.
  6. Well, they had to investigate it, can't just say "that doesn't make sense, it can't be true". Chances are, he pissed someone off, and this was some sort of radical plan to get rid of him. Irregardless of the truth, it has likely damaged his reputation and character. He should at least be paid everything he would have, as if he worked that time. This is an example of why a provider could sue the employer. I doubt he'd get much suing a homeless man and a drug addict.
  7. Our protocols include using the AED on infants. We carry Biphasic AED's, w/ pedi pads. Last summer, we had two pediatric arrests. One a birth on scene, resuscitated w/ CPR; the second a child found pulseless/apneic. I believe that one was 4mos. one pad on the back, one over the chest. No shocks, we weren't able to resuscitate, I think the child was just down too long. No signs of obvious death, but down long enough to make resuscitation efforts futile. If we didn't have the infant/child function on the defibrillator. The protocol would be to scoop and scoot; w/ the option of calling OMC to use the adult function, but it doesn't specify on that whether or not to do so for infants. Infants being 12mos. or less.
  8. Off topic. We had a structure fire one night from a man doing that, except he threw them out hot from the stove. Some rolled against his barn. Poof.
  9. This is a video link to JEMS Connect. Shows three guys rolling up to a medical scenario in a Cadillac ambulance, then it goes on to be hilarious. I almost needed oxygen before it was over. It was just funny as all hell!! http://connect.jems.com/video/ems-back-in-the-day
  10. We keep a bag of large "grain" rock salt, basically for traction, in the ambulance. Foot traction, that is. HIPAA... BTW.
  11. If you collected comp, and then sue their estate, the insurance company that paid your medical bills on comp... will collect what they paid, out of your settlement.
  12. First, you have to pronounce it right. Say it aloud "Bah-Stin"
  13. Not everyone who wires those up is the sharpest knife in the drawer. We've had woods fires from fences, animals killed because one was leaning against a metal stall, and made contact with a wire at the same time. We used to touch them on a dare as kids. But I've seen some that would likely kill you, just by the damage it does to things touching it. Tree fires, barn fires, from the wires stapled to them loosely. Moves around, spark, poof.
  14. If they're just magnetic, how do you keep them from falling off? Maybe I don't understand how they would work. I'd loose them in a day. Maybe instead of pins, you could get the ones that have the blunt tack that screw into the doohickey that keeps it from falling off? I think they're called Screw back.
  15. If you type a phone number; or a name and street address into Google, and it's listed; you get their name and address, number. Often, you also get a satellite photo/map of where it is located too. Couple months ago, we had a 2nd due ambulance call. We live in a very small town, the street addresses go no higher than 250. So, when we were dispatched to 8## Main St., I knew they had to be wrong. It was one of those link to life services. They had just the street number, actual street name, last name and nearest intersecting street. So, we stopped in the post office to check on the name. I asked if they had internet service. Went to Google, Typed in the address, and put the intersecting street in quotes. Found the same name, address, a telephone number. I was able to click on the lil orange man, and go right down to street level, and see the color of the house. Then, I looked at the zip code. Using 12345 as an example. Ours would be 12345, theirs was 12354... That was the ONLY thing the link to life call center had wrong, and that mistake could have cost someones life. I called the dispatch center, gave them said info, and that it was a bright yellow building. 92 miles away.. The patient was located, nearly 45 minutes after the call first went out. The dispatch center was going to mark it as address not found and leave it at that, till the agency that called them, could get more info. Had it not been for Google, we probably never would have been able to locate the address in time to help the patient.
  16. Technically not live, at 0930 Pacific. It had been over for a couple hours by then.
  17. I'm sure one of our counterparts in Iraq, Australia, New Zealand, etc. can call for information.
  18. Maybe a peg to the head w/ a baton while in the attempt to run into traffic would have been better than getting slammed by a car. While suicide may not be illegal per se, running into traffic is endangering other lives. So, a swift twat (I'm gonna start using that word) on the head may not have hurt too badly.
  19. I've only met one NREMTB, living in our area. I guess he got it through the PA Army National Guard.
  20. I just realized today that I got a stimulus added to my back account.
  21. What goat story?
  22. IMO, when a politician says to the media, that he/she is behind something; chances are all they have done was say "I'd support; or I support that".
  23. I don't think you'll get very far, with a 143 year old document.
