  1. I'm not talking about wheeling them to the ambulance... I mean physically carrying the entire stretcher, with patient, to the ambulance. The only time I've ever seen the whole cot being carried, is on TV. Sounds like your super picky patient needs to buy their own gawddamn ambulance...
  2. ..and where the hell do people get the idea that we're supposed to carry them - literally- to the ambulance? This isn't 1950's Hollywood ambulance services.. I had a patient file a complaint because the stretcher ride from her living room to the ambulance was bumpy. She thought it was our job to carefully carry her to and from the ambulance. Her C/C was a dry eye. A dry eye. No ailments preventing her from walking, which she just did, down the stairs, to greet us at the door. She wanted help up from her couch, and demanded we stretcher tx her 60 some feet to the ambulance. Sure, if the patient is on a spine board, or one of those stretchers w/ only two wheels on one end.. We'll carry them. But I see no purpose on lowering the cot and carrying the whole package.
  3. Toys R Us sells them..
  4. thank you..
  5. At least he was just a cop wannabe
  6. I have several old nozzles and various vintage appliances, nothing too showy, just things that look cool in my eyes.
  7. How are we supposed to determine that, based on seeing someone with a knife, razor blade, etc; cutting themselves? Kind of goes against what we tell each other, trust no-one.
  8. Willie Nelson Which would you rather have, personally, an amputated hand or a broken femur?
  9. I dunno which one has the beach cops, but I love that. I just watch for the (female) eye candy. Something about hott, female cops...
  10. They have "seizure" written all over them.
  11. May not apply since it's the Bahamas, but he'd being kind of open w/ the details. We'd get sued for that here.. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28497268/ http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,475766,00.html
  12. Thankfully for (us), all of those were career EMS services.

  14. I was hoping it was real, I wanted to see Dust's reaction. Speaking of which, where is he?
  15. Does this mean I can't wear my "Trust me.. I'm a doctor" shirt anymore?
  16. Well, until it's illegal to sell Police, FBI, Security, Sheriff, etc. shirts as novelty items.. I don't really see what the cops can do about it? Was there something behind the story? I see another abuse of the badge, officer with a power trip, case. Too bad they didn't get video, that's one of my favorite youtube topics. I admit, I like to push the envelope sometimes if we get a cocky officer. Does this mean that we can track down, harass and detain people who wear the clothing sold by fire departments all across the world? Gonna be a sharp rise in call volume in the Tri-State region of NY. Every firefighter in NYS & New Jersey is going to get taken down a peg or two by FDNY.
  17. Carefully take the splint out of the package, cut it in half with a pair of heavy shears, ever so gently.. and throw it away. Use three board splints, and five cravats instead.
  18. Even simple vehicle extrication is so specialized and technical anymore, that pretty much everyone has to be on a similar page, to make things work out properly. Rescue and EMS need to be closely related to improve the outcome for the victim, IMO. Even if your firefighting skills are limited to stand and point. There's no excuse for having low expectations on rescue personnel. We have specific people, guidelines and outfits. On an MVA, it's either extrication suits or TOG. Everyone has both, so attire is covered. The victim is accessed, by EMS, treated as necessary, and at the same time the person who has taken charge of rescue does a survey to see what will be the best way to remove the victim(s). We share info as much as possible, so it's safe and as quick as possible, but we take the time to do it right. If you can't work together, you could really screw over your victim.
  19. We've hit two deer, had one run into us, hit a duck, and slid sideways into a culvert... in 2008.
  20. Does being hit by a deer, requiring minor extrication, count?
  21. I invested in a flat of Bisquick shake n' pour.
  22. So, I was channel surfing one morning, and caught this product on Regis & Kelly. It's a canned, organic, pancake batter. The batter blaster. http://www.batterblaster.com/ I was in Sam's Club, and picked up a three can pack, and this Presto FlipSide Belgian Waffle Maker that was on R&K, too. Well, the maker sat on the floor of my closet for about three months. The batter cans last for-frickin-ever, so age wasn't a problem. I ran through the steps, and it turned out three, very, very, brown Belgian waffles. I pour on the Mrs. Butterworths, and... OH MY GAWD. I have never tasted anything, more vial, in all my life. That stuff leaves an after taste, as if I've been sucking on a handful of deep fried pennies. Similar to the taste of blood. :? Typical of the day, someone stops by right around dinner time. So.. I said, go ahead. Same reaction. Anyhoo, it was so bad, I just had to write about it.
  23. We'd never be afforded the right to have a tax for EMS, unless the state said they had to. The fire dept. gets a very low sum, compared to their yearly budget, and that was very difficult to negotiate. I honestly do not believe that the citizenry see an Ambulance as a necessity.
  24. Now if the first service was independent of its municipality, on its own, with its members as like stockholders; the new company wouldn't owe anyone a dime... I also doubt anyone's complaint about times, until the other side of the story is noted. Maybe their units were all out? Comes back to the "I only care if it affects me" line. We will never all have paid services. All of EMS may someday be paid, but that will just mean fewer stations for wider areas. Someone will have to be on the short end of the stick..and wait longer, for less personnel and less ambulances. Because economically speaking, now especially, you could never make everyone paid. It may be better, or worse than what we have now, but nobody has the answer to that... and we probably won't see it in our lifetime.
