I had a copy of the Brady 3rd Edition, from taking the course in '00.

So.. I'm up on my political news. However, one detail that I'm not sure of; nor can I find.. Are there any other potential candidates that are running, aside from Obama and McCain? Because, every debate I see, the less I want to vote for either of them.

What kind of EMS system does Russia have? All I could find in the first few pages on Google was something about an Express Mail Service. In fact, most of what I found showed military ambulances w/ no equipment, meager stretchers, a few sprinters. A lot of VW-looking bus ambulances, not much better off than the US was in the 1950's. If it is true, that the "paramedics" (which I think is probably just a term used by the media to describe everyone in EMS) did not have a defibrillator, how well could they have been equipped otherwise?

Honestly. How many anti-volunteer threads do we need in a week? Can't they all be lumped into one thread? In the past 24 hours, there have been two new Anti-Volunteer threads; and three others turned in that direction.

No, they should be taken out and beaten with a rusty chain. That language crosses the line on so many levels, that it is difficult to find words to describe how wrong it is. I have no tolerance for people who speak with hatred, and I don't believe they have a place in today's society.

Prior to killing my lumbar spine, I was a fan of the folding stretcher myself.. Grab the lite patients, and carry them, vs. adding 80lbs to the equation.

Darn. I didn't know that registering wasn't required. Here I've been waiting since yesterday for them to approve my account. Doesn't show much for their site, to host such hateful and racist comments.

Stop what? Defacing the star of life, by placing it on the arm of a slob? There should be a law, you can't tattoo yourself in the realm of fire and EMS, if you're exceeding 250.

Ever since the first time I began to hear audible bubbling, from a patients airway, a good fifty feet from the room.. Walked in, to see an elderly man, cyanotic, white froth in his mouth, exhaling, and inhaling.. this thick foam.. on a simple mask at 3LPM... and the nurses saying "they're not sure what's wrong".. I'm not surprised by anything that can be negatively expressed, about a nursing facility. I know, they can only do what the doctor orders... But allowing someone to drown, in bed, laying flat, with an aspirator outside the door.. should be a crime, punishable with similar suffering. Nothing, infuriates me more... I can complain, write a report, report it in the ER, to the county, to the state, the Dept. of Health, Agency on Aging, etc.. With in a week, it's swept under the metaphorical carpet.. and it's always the same story, and similar incidents on the next run. It's all one big circle of hell.. If I were able, I'd commit suicide, before being placed in a nursing facility.

Changing EMS is one thing... I'd like to see it happen to, however.. Suggesting that people do things to cause harm to, or take the lives of; said volunteers, was a little over the top. Since not all of them are youthful, cheery whackers; or self centered ego maniacal pricks. [spoil:692bfe70ce]Like some slightly over the hill medics here, ahem.. no names mentioned.[/spoil:692bfe70ce] -
Hell.. When I was a kid, you had to put a cassette tape in its ass to get it to talk. Teddy Ruxpin, that is.. I was in Toys R Us last week buying a gift, for a friends child.. They have some odd stuff these days. Tonka Trucks aren't metal anymore.. GI Joe don't just have guns, they have RPG's, mines, Grenades, Missile Launchers, huge knives... WTF. And McDonald's Cashier play sets? Teaching them to work at McD's before they're five? Great...

If you want to exercise your Freedom of Speech, go out on the street and have a peaceful gathering.. The first amendment does not extend to physical private property. You are at the helm, of the service provider's discretion. Neither The Bill of Rights, nor The Constitutional Amendments guarantee your Freedom to Speak, on the internet. A lot of sites are very good at allowing individualism and free expression. However, with continual abuse; its only a matter of time till a line has to be drawn.

That's actually a really good idea. Lay a tripod on the cot, cover the stilts with a sheet, and focus it up at the provider. A lot of companies will pay a nice fee for stock footage or pictures. Doesn't have to be an expensive process. I do something for sh*ts & giggles, that I titled 'through our eyes'. Any digital camera will work, no flash, no blinking lights. Put it in a small box, with a pencil sized hole in the top., open on one end. Leave it in a position where you can activate the self timer w/ something long and thin. afix an SCBA mask over the open side, and secure it. That's all. A fog machine works, but I used a smoke simulator. Set up a large hand light with some orange shrink wrap and cover it the end with a grey or white cloth. Nothing big, just enough to dull the reflection. Gives an idea of what we see in a fire.

We can't even get people to stand in pictures for media events. Have to ask around to see if anyone is willing to wear a white shirt and smile for the camera. Not uncommon for only one person to be in a picture..

Unintended elder abuse - calling Grandma "Sweetie"
Chief1C replied to Michael's topic in General EMS Discussion
I have always called, individuals to my senior by their surname. Mr. Doe, Mrs. Doe; Sir, Ma'am; whichever applies. Courtesy and compassion are two of the qualities we insist our personnel practice. No attitudes, people shouldn't feel uncomfortable for calling an ambulance. Of course, if I know them personally, or I've been directed to; then I'll address them by their forename. A lot of the hard working farmers, or older men are offended by someone calling them Sir. "Don't call me Sir, I work for a living." Occasionally, when certain officers are being idiots, I call them Sir, just to piss them off.. Because I know that's one thing that certain people really get annoyed by. -
Well.. If it's not a joke, then it's one really eff'd up fetish... However, there is no bone there.. So.. if it is something that was inserted into the urethra.. Maybe immobilize on a long board, and prevent movement of the genitalia w/ a blanket and either rolled sheets or towels.

More on flying trauma patients...
Chief1C replied to paramedicmike's topic in General EMS Discussion
I'm not assuming anything.. I was summarizing an article that I had read on http://www.somdnews.com . It discussed the equipment for detecting distance from the ground, and that only a certain percentage of the fleet of helicopters had that equipment. The one that crashed, being one that did not have it, and that it may have struck the top of an 80' tree. -

So.. Which is more ignorant, or inappropriate to suggest with out further details from investigations? This: Or This? Mechanics? Federal law makers, who don't require instrumentation that could prevent crashes caused by not being aware of distance to the ground? I haven't read anything about the extent of the injuries of the victims, from the auto crash. I have read statements about Maryland EMS and trauma patient destination protocols. Waldorf is about an hour, by road, from the Shock Trauma Center in Balt. So many factors to go over, I'm not too familiar with Maryland, as far was other Trauma centers, if protocol suggested the patient needs to be taken to one. Ultimately, no matter what the medevac dispatch centers report, it's the pilot's decision to take the flight or not. I don't think anything has been suggested yet to clue in that it was pilot ignorance, seems like either equipment failure, or lack of flight instruments. -

Till there's an official report on what caused the crash, lets not place any blame. -
I'd be more than happy to FedEx you some timber rattlers. I found more rattlesnakes in August, than full huckleberry bushes.

Can a person with a felony work for the fire rescue?

I was being sarcastic. -

However.. If it didn't stop you from being certified as a Paramedic, medic1978, you may not have that much of a problem getting a job as one. -
Always be prepared?

I do my thing. They do theirs.. Not everyone fits, because of the amount of ignorance that drips from some.. But most of us fit into a cog on the gear of EMS... Which btw is run by a Ford Model TT engine instead of a computerized machine like it should be.
