  1. I know I did. The few times it's been necessary, I give my report using plain language, and ask the nurses at our L+D hospital what they use when I'm writing up my report to save space.
  2. Another reason to reverse the curse in 2012!
  3. Once you see CPR in progress (well, 3-4 compressions at a time anyway) on a patient inside a car undergoing mechanical extrication, 5 layers of sheets and blankets laid down on the backboard to prevent any blood from getting on it, and then 15 minutes of on-scene work in the back of the truck prior to transport 1 mile from the trauma center, nothing really gets you going anymore.
  4. Here it is. 1 infected pre-hospital IV, 4 in-hospital. Evaluated as statistically negligible on both counts. http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=3492647
  5. Too bad they didn't read the study I saw that had the infection rates as statistically identical, with a slight numerical edge to EMS. I haven't had to post it in a couple of years, I'll try to remember where I found it.
  6. HAHAHAHA OWNED! timeline of events: http://salemnews.com/punews/local_story_212205043.html
  7. 117 transported, two on vents. Substance is still unknown. http://www.southcoasttoday.com/apps/pbcs.d...3/NEWS/90803006
  8. Speaking for my area that has this, the chances of an EMT-B having a chance to intubate anyone is so small that I'm starting to believe that the reason ETI is a separate license after EMT-B licensure is to make money off them. I don't know any Basic that's done it, and I'd be floored if any of them know a Basic that's done it. It's not so much that the numbers are bad- it's that there are, near as I can tell, no numbers.
  9. Yeah, why stick with a regional third service that works when you can let the local fire department destroy it.
  10. Your wife's newly single? Alright, giggity gi.... Uh, I mean, sorry man, that's rough.
  11. It kills me that these studies which will eventually completely destroy intubation as a prehospital intervention are being based off of the worst our industry has to offer. I'm not blaming them for doing it or disputing the results, I'm just saying that if a similar study were run by Harborview, Mass General, Brackenridge, or Duke, you would very likely NOT be getting these kinds of results.
  12. That's it? 603 trips in 3 years wouldn't even get him into the top 10 here. I'm surprised. I would've thought it was Firehouse.
  13. Whatever you need to feed the unicorns, Vent.
  14. I do. I hate them so much I provide them with the exact same level of medical care that I do with millionaires, college kids, suburban housewives, construction workers, nursing home patients, and even bleeding hearts such as yourself. I hated the guy I found living in piles of his own waste so much I called three different agencies on my own time to alert them to his condition and that he needed help. That'll teach HIM. Like I've said in "the other threads"- screw you and your sanctimonious assumptions.
  15. If you really did work (or worked) in the People's Republik, you'd know that your argument for a P/B truck is pointless, because in Massachusetts a Basic is not allowed to tech the call with a Paramedic (or even an Intermediate) onboard. This would in fact increase the risks of Paramedic burnout, because the Paramedic has no one to share the patient load with. They're all his/hers, unlike a P/P truck that can share the volume. I would imagine that Mass isn't the only state with such a requirement.
  16. Ok, fine. Second specification of original intent. I would prefer it if there was a policy created, enforced and publicized regarding the repatriation and/or deportation of illegal aliens who become medically dependent or otherwise drain such resources (ie the 6 times a week homeless alcoholics that might also happen to be here illegally) while in this country.
  17. Yeah, good point I guess.
  18. Whether or not this particular "repatriation" was a secret or not wasn't really my point.
  19. I must be missing something. Right?
  20. Why deport these people secretly? I'd rather they do it publicly.
  21. I see a topic we already covered.
  22. Coincidence? Riiiiiiight.
  23. Dude. NOT necessary to quote half-page posts. Twice. In any event, I'm glad to see UMass investing some money in equipment and personnel. A city of that size and volume- no to mention also covering the neighboring city of Shrewsbury- should have had field supervisors already.
  24. Their stays in the ground are even longer.
  25. Oh. So they ripped off Failblog.
