  1. True story.
  2. ...You've been buffing EMS calls in my area??
  3. I forgot to mention that the children's hospital that gave the charcoal mixed it with Coke before they gave it to our patient. How much more palatable that is I couldn't tell you.
  4. Stryker sells one that you can buy with (or without) their bariatric stretcher.
  5. The equivalent of the FBI, ICE, ATF, DEA, DHS, Bureau of Prisons, NSA, and every police department in the country, all run by one agency.
  6. Required BLS med here, never used it in the field, but one patient got it before they were off my stretcher at the ER. That was a psych patient though, so the hospital had some means of... negotiation, that I did not ("Drink it or you'll be restrained and get a tube down your nose").
  7. 47's not bad to be a transfer jockey, but it ain't 54, that's for sure.
  8. Wasn't any easier for me the first time I did it- my arms are so long that I had to pull up the entire trip. My arms were damn near useless the rest of the shift.
  9. Yeah, I still need the hotel, and a way to get from airport to hotel.... XL for me.
  10. For further clarification, the patient in the DC case was not capable of expressing a preference, nor was anyone present to do so for him. The destination decision was made solely by the crew, and then changed for the convenience of this fired EMT.
  11. I do not believe that the errand was done with the patient onboard- but they did make the transport destination decision based on how close it was to the EMT's house. They stopped there after dropping the patient off. Both bad, but one is just plain not true.

  13. WRONG. The fire service will continue to prevent any meaningful advancement in EMS education standards, as they have for years- led by the IAFF, IAFC, and the NVFC.
  14. Here's an idea- ask your state regulatory authority instead of random people on the Internet who have no say in the matter. I mean, we're awesome and everything, but we don't make or probably even know the rules governing this situation.

Services? Try the entire state. Required equipment on every ambulance. Until about 2 years ago, ET kits were optional for ALS ambulances as long as the EOA was present and the owning service declared to the state inspector that "this ambulance does not intubate" (that provision was removed). Out of state EMTs have to learn how to use EOA and MAST from a licensed EMS Instructor before being granted a license. Now. Is it ever used? Don't know anyone that has, and I've never seen a patient brought in with one. So "use" is something if a misnomer. "Have" and "carry" is more accurate.
  16. Backus usually sends their traumas to RIH, I spose UMass is a possibility though.
  17. You sure you're in Colorado? Sounds an awful lot like where I work.

There's a lot of things that the rest of medicine is moving away from and we aren't. MAST, EOAs, lasix, coma cocktail....

We have it listed as an alternative to epi, 0.25mg SQ.
  20. My 911 department just did a STEMI today while I was at my FT job- pain to cath lab in under 60 minutes with on-scene 12-lead, result in a 3-minute ER time. Most importantly, the 12-lead post first NTG is nearly normal, and would have easily fooled an inexperienced/under-educated provider- a huge advertisement for pre-everything ECGs!
  21. Yes, yes, and no!  Ok, registered for the 3rd, working on the travel, performance review bumped back a week, fiance somewhat dissapointed but generally agreeable. 8)
  22. She offered to pay my airfare too  , but that would kill my training allowance for the fiscal year. :? Time to snipe some of dad's frequent flyer miles!
  23. Hmm... Maybe. Have to see how good I'm in with the boss... My Wednesday shifts are traditionally hard to fill...
  24. Oh man- my family drove to Ohio from New England when I was a kid. I thought Pennsylvania would NEVER END. Damn!
