  1. I'm not saying AMR will fire them for the strike. But that if the fire taks over they will not hire all AMR people. Then AMR will not have a contract so there are no jobs, I guess they might offer to let you move to another location. I do agree from what I have heard though sounds like AMR sucks.
  2. That happens daily. Get called by paniced parent, cover blood parent calms down. Realizes not so bad and dang I can't afford that big bill so thanks for the bandage, but I'll take the kid my self.
  3. Actually CYA could be why they were disciplined. Hospital knows it will lose less money if the Paramedics sue for wrongful discipline than if the girls mother sues. And it really sounds like the clinic screwed up as well. Now as far as forcing child to go if parents say no, big legal mess. You do not want to go there.
  4. I'm sure there is a clause that says void if either party fails to live up to the contract. You strike, contract void. Fire might hire some that have fire certification, but I would not count on all of you getting picked up. Sorry with the economy like it is I would say there will be a good chance Fire and EMS everywhere are going to start feeling the pinch as well.
  5. I am probably the most vocal advocate on this site of the right to deny transport to those that do not need transport. That being said head trauma to especially a child is something never to be taken lightly. Based on the limited amount of info in the article it sounds as if they should have transported. Now did it really occur the way the mother who was probably in a paniced state described? No one will ever know.
  6. Good descriptive writing. You surprise me. Guess your really an old softy.
  7. Basically then if you strike you just lose your job when the fire department takes over EMS.
  8. Your a female? Your profile say's male. So if you are a male you should heed your own advice. As to female vs woman vs girl. If you get offended by any of those terms being used you are to sensitive. You can call me man, boy, male, jerk, etc, just don't call me late to supper. It is time everyone quit having to worry about being so politically correct.
  9. Excellent true points. You can't be bashful or worry about peoples feelings. You have to step up take charge or everyone including the patient patient suffers.
  10. I agree. When I first got into EMS the blood and guts really got me pumping. Now I find, especially as I get more education getting more excited about a good medical call. I mean I still need a good blood and guts to tell around the fire with the rookies and basics, but I really relish the challenge of a true medical especially at my part time job where I have 90 miles or more to see if my choice of treatment is working.
  11. And even if you check with your state office as someone mentioned and they say no it is equal. I would not want to be you as a Paramedic in a lawsuit using that as a defense. You as a paramedic with more education than your basic partner will be held to a higher standard. So while your basic partner may get a slap on the wrist you as the paramedic could lose the house.
  12. I'm sure even some former emtcity members would show up for a chance to cut you down to size. Doc Bledsoe said it would cost a lot of money to do something like this, so I don't expect to see anything like it at least not anywhere this affordable. I really wish I could get in on this bargain education.
  13. In the USA ambulance is not a required service so I expect even some city/county services to see big cuts or even be closed if the economy does not turn around fast. The privates will really take a big hit as medicaid/medicare/insurance cut back the amount they pay and for what reason they will even pay.
  14. If part of your service and on duty Paramedic will be held to a higher level as their education should allow them to recognize things are wrong that a basic would/might/could/etc miss even if unable to treat at a higher level. If a stranger walks up in my area even if a doctor it is up to local protocol how to deal with that. I remain in charge and can choose to allow the higher level to assist but they then must go with us and also be informed that they have accepted responsibility/liability for anything they do or should do. Some states and services may have different rules.
  15. Remember Doc asked for no EMS vs Fire. Thanks. Play nice.
  16. Wow. The council needs to realize that often times it is unknown whether extrication or other is needed so fire should be called. If they want to charge establish a charge to the owners of the cars involved in the wreck. Establish rates for just showing up, traffic control, extrication, putting wet stuff on hot stuff, etc.... and then bill the car owners and or their insurance. I can just see the lawsuit when a person burns to death when fire is sitting at the station because initial call did not mention fire.
  17. I would not complain if the minimum age was raised to 25. I really think it should at least be 21. I have no problem with younger EMS people just let them be third riders to get experience.
  18. Women should be home barefoot, pregnant, and cooking me my meals. I actually prefer several of the girl partners I have worked with. Only once have I ran into a lifting problem and that was just because she was to short to get cot up high enough to place in ambulance. As far as patient care the females seem to be able to be aggresive while still showing more compassion.
  19. Really hope they send you law. Now in your state if all operate under one protocol that would basically be a state law then. Really you have not denied care or abandoned. You came over. Did examination. Even possibly treated. But patient is not in a situation that requires ambulance transport. You have done the duty required. Don't get me wrong again even in my job where we can deny we still transport most. And in an area where its only 5-15 minutes to the hospital the transport paper work + transport time would be quicker than the denial paper work. In the job that we are allowed to deny we are at least 90 miles to nearest hospital. The point of this topic is many throw out the law says you must transport all callers. Yet so far only local protocol has been shown. So I look forward to seeing if your state has an actual law.
  20. This even applys if both medics are experienced. No matter how long you do something there will be times it would be nice to confer with someone else to see what would be best course of treatment.
  21. Fred the head and annie give me enough hands on. Real people are easier. My paramedic program gets lots of gripes because they require way more patient contacts and skills during clinicals than the state requires. Personally I like it because the more contacts I get under experienced people the greater chance any wrong understandings or methods should get caught and I can get corrected. Then when I'm turned loose I'll already be a full fledged paragiant.
  22. Do any of you already have the tube over the bougie in order to avoid the complaints some list? In other words using it like any other stylet other than the end is past end of tube.
  23. Sounds like they are not very well organized. http://www.ktnv.com/Global/story.asp?S=9351808 "AMR says there are questions as to which union represents more than a hundred EMTs and paramedics. "
