I make more as an EMT-I than any fire fighter within 300 miles, maybe more. I have a private bedroom. I have cable tv in the bedroom and in the common room. I have internet. I have work out equipment. I have a nice kitchen. I have retirement, great insurance, get raises every year, and will automatically go to Paramedic as soon as I get my certification. Why would I want to downgrade to a ff job? I do think not for profit is best as way to often the private for profits focus so much on the money that patient care is hurt. Currently my primary service is a county run service. If we need it the county gets it for us. The county focus is on EMS providing prehospital medical care. They do not want us to just throw patients in and drive. We are about to establish another out station, fully equipped in another part of the station with very few 911 calls but very remote and the county understands its about the patients and not making money. So my point I have it better than most ff's. I make better money. I have a comfortable place to wait for next tone. I am able to focus only on medicine rather than having my attention split which IMHO means my patients will get better care. No one can be the best at two so very different professions, so be the best ff you can be or be the best medical professional you can be. -
I think Angleton, Tx south of Houston is hiring and if I remember correctly pays good. Don't recall cost of living though.

The quote I quote was more than enough proof of that. Just because Los Angeles jumps off the golden gate bridge, we all should? That is bad reasoning. And I have avoided personal attacks, I only stated a fact based on your actions and attitudes. I do hope your paramedics prove us wrong and turn out to be the best ever seen in this nation for the sake of the people they will treat. Many here have sited many examples that show how it very much appears that the system you are with is falling into the same trap many others have. You have gotten your pantys in a wad because so many examples have been sited and you have no other argument than you don't know us. Well we have seen and experienced things that look and act the same, so why expect a different outcome. The reason history is so important is that we learn from our mistakes and not repeat them. Sadly EMS has not learned that lesson. -

Hey don't forget to go to the 2 sites on page 1 and voice your concerns. Of course they will probably get deleted there like mine did. I was even nice and polite but because I expressed an anti- Fire message mine were deleted. In fact here they are to make it easier: http://www.emsresponder.com/article/articl...p;siteSection=1 http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2008/...ass-in-session/ -

While I agree that we should not transport the ashes, just as we do not transport live family, I disagree with the rude reply jban. If you keep up rude replys rather than trying to provide professional opinion you may be short lived here. -
With no overtime our Paramedics get over $40000 starting. Odds are be well over $50000 a year with the overtime you will end up getting. Pay is currently $18 hour soon to go to $20 or close to it to start. You are paid all hours and get great benefits. Cost of living is cheap. In a very rural are of west Texas. Some say this area is hotter than hell so based on your profile you might not be able to stand the heat.

BAN HBO and other PORN from EMS/Fire Stations

Yup whiney complainers never accept the blame. Sadly this could have been a topic to discuss professionally how to deal with differences. But coming in with such a derogatory name and attitude this topic never had a chance. -

Please do not insult my friend Vent, as uneducated as I am I am surprised that we converse on a professional level. See you still consider Paramedics to be nothing more than taxi drivers by your own statement. You also are one of the EMT's that give EMT's bad names and lead to many here and in the real world not wanting them around. If you ever had to spend time in my part of the world you would find that Paramedics and EMT's have to practice medicine. We can not just throw people in and drive to the hospital, well we could but there would be a lot more dead people in my area. As a former firefighter with higher rank than you obviously have lazily attained, you disgrace me and the brotherhood with your ignorance. Again admin I apologize that I am not being nice, but I am being more polite than this individual deserves. -

Build it and they will come ignore them and they will go away. Two profound statements. -
I gotta say cash talks. I'll put up with more crap in one hand if the other hand is getting more dollars in it. But I also have to add the services I have seen that choose to pay good also seem to give you good equipment.

spenac replied to iamyourgod's topic in General EMS Discussion
If you are not educated enough to be able to examine, treat as needed, transport if needed, and deny transport of those that can safely go by other means to the doctor you have no business in EMS. The you call we haul mentality is bull. It is time EMS grows up and quits being a taxi service. Doctors often do not have labs or xrays to rule out every possible problem either before kicking people out of the ER. -

Bad choice. We should be PreHospital Medical Professionals providing emergency medical care from our mobil emergency rooms. If we keep the mentality that we are public safety we might as well forget ever advancing our profession. We might as well return to the day of throw the patient in the back then get up front and drive. We are there to provide medical care not to correct safety issues. Cops and ff deal with that. Heck we should remove lights and sirens from our mobile ER's and start taking care of our patients during safe comfortable rides rather than rushing and dumping. -
Question about a transport Not without my husband.
spenac replied to itku2er's topic in General EMS Discussion
I did not blend but I raised questions. I really based on urns I have seen do not think seatbelt would hold it in place, especially if you hit a bump faster than you should by accident. Think the stress of leaving the ashes at home were bad, see my original post again. Would this be a time lying to the patient would be ok? Tell her someone would place the urn in the ambulance. Get to the hospital when she asks blame it on that darn fire fighter that got distracted and forgot them on her table. -
This is good report to share. It is sad that such a large system is only starting to really understand there is no need to transport dead people. Either get them back in the land of the living and take them to the ER or if no return, pronounce them. Safer for everyone. Even as a first responder we had the right to stop CPR. As far as having to transport doing cpr, rolling codes have never be required in my neck of the woods that I am aware of.

Question about a transport Not without my husband.
spenac replied to itku2er's topic in General EMS Discussion
No relatives are allowed to ride with our patients. So now if I take the ashes would I open the precedent that others would argue well you let her husband ride with her? Honestly I would probably just take it along with her med bag, just to cause less stress to the patient. Now if it is in a porcelian vase don't know that I would want that responsibility. What if we hit a bump, can you imagine her stress level hearing the crash and seeing a cloud of ashes? -
So you only date 50 year olds or older?
