  1. LOL. You can go talk to him in chat room 2 right now so he doesn't miss your reply. Glad my reference helped. AHA has a small book includes BLS, CPR, RSI, ACLS, PALS that might benefit. They just released the 2008 version.
  2. Thank you for a well thought out response. While I still disagree with fire being in control of EMS I am glad to hear that in many ways this in your opinion is a much improved system. I do hope for the citizens you serve that it works better than those I am familiar with. Please come back and post on any topic you want to. Anyone that provides intelligent discussion is always welcome. But at times we all get jumped on when others disagree with us. I would say welcome to the site but doesn't look like you are really new here.
  3. How many paramedics are there certified in Tennessee?
  4. But at other agencies nobody checks the references. They look that the app is filled in completely and if they like you after visiting with you they hire you. So technically your references could be bogus. Of course if they are and they look for grounds to fire lying on the app could come into play. But as the others said use people that are respected in the field if at all possible. Now if you put Doc Bledsoe on it you better darn well know him and him know you.
  5. You will find that many posters on this site are doctors. Also you will find that many of the most vocal about having fire and EMS separate including myself were firefighters and chose to leave. You will also find that many on here have other medical degrees and are trying to help the EMS profession by promoting higher education and higher standards for EMS. No most of us have no specific knowledge of your service, but we have seen the exact same things done. We as a profession must learn from the failures in our history and not make the same mistakes again. Sadly it appears your service has failed in that regard, based on your own comments. As work under standing orders, I work under some extremely aggressive guidelines with the ability to think for myself. Of course it is needed, as I actually have to practice medicine during the 90 mile plus transports to the hospital and often much longer. We have no radio or phone coverage. So do not go there. You made it clear that you are primarily a FF, so please do not try to argue as regards the EMS profession.
  6. LOL. National registry exam as proof of good education. That is the biggest joke of an exam and is one reason EMS is so far behind other medical professions. If they toughened the exam to eliminate diploma mill students we would get to where we only had quality educated people.
  7. Already a topic. Rid started it previously. Sorry. http://www.emtcity.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.ph...&highlight=
  8. WOW with your professional attitude I'm sure it will work out just great.

  10. Sorry Ruff all I have is an older version as well. Hopefully someone will loan you the new version, considering how much you are always willing to help us students.
  11. He'll probably get away with it as justified assualt. I know that paramedics goatee made want to take a swing.
  12. Just went to the site the OP sited. Some really interesting comments have been brought up. http://www.emsresponder.com/article/articl...p;siteSection=1
  13. OK Joe the plumber has gained fame by being held up as an example by both major political partys. But guess what he is working illegally as a plumber and he has failed to pay his taxes. Perfect working stiff example. http://canadianpress.google.com/article/AL...XXdvIbCs97ASRlQ "Turns out that the man who was held up by John McCain as the typical, hard-working American taxpayer isn't really a licensed plumber. And court documents show he owes nearly $1,200 in back taxes."
  14. But your older than dust. As old and ancient as I am, I am still a young grasshopper in comparison.
  15. Don't worry I'll be around to cause trouble for at least a few more months. Thanks all for the concern.
  16. Thanks Wendy and Ruff. But no problem Professional. Yes it is me. But I am waiting to make a decision till I'm back up and running full speed and clear headed. Thanks for the concern and perhaps this is a good time to discuss how to deal with things when things go bad.
  17. I have actually had to go out to the ambulance and get a combitube and place it for the ER doc when he could place a tube. In my area it seems only options in ER are ETI or cric.
  18. Yes it has. As one of the biggest anti-vollys on here the reason I even chose to respond is the OP took time to present their side in a well thought out way. Sadly most just quickly rush to the I volly so I'm more dedicated than you BS. So to OP thank you for a well presented discussion.
  19. Again another well thought out post dkay72027. As to you expecting volunteers to affect pay to only be in urban areas, sorry, that is wrong. I am from one of the most rural areas in the USA. It is 90 miles from the EMS station to the hospital and it takes more than an hour to even get to many patients which means many transports are over two hours. The volunteer service that affected my pay check was 75+ miles away. So even if you are volunteering a long way from me you are still hurting my family and my self. All actions carry a ripple effect. You are right about the public having no clue what is involved in my profession. The ignorance that this is an easy, fun, exciting job is made worse when the public sees that people do it for free so it can't be like a real job. So again ripple effects. Public education is needed but the public will think yeah right if it were that difficulty, dangerous, etc, then why do people do it for free. More ripple effect.
  20. So sorry master, grasshopper attempted to jump to far.
  21. I will have to disagree Dust. If all communitys no matter how small got their prioritys right they could find funds to form if not their own EMS a partnership with another community so that they would always have paid ambulance available. My current primary service keeps an ambulance in a town that had less than 20 transports last year.
  22. Excellent post. In fact IMHO your best yet.
  23. LOL Crazy old man. I see that EMSPROFESSIONAL made a very pointed and good comment on it. Perhaps I should study under him and make some real advancement.
  24. I agree with Ruff, good 2nd post. Yes I do think the day of the EMS volly is over. There is nothing similar to the 2 weeks to a month spent with doctors w/o borders and volly EMS. You are taking jobs away that could feed familys. And you contribute to the low wages found in my chosen profession. I do know of many very talented and educated vollys, basics and paramedics. I actually started as one of them. But in budget hearings at my first paid EMS job guess what got thrown into our faces when we asked for a raise? Thats right why pay you when the guys right up the highway do it for free. So I and my family have suffered because of those that chose to give it away free. Why do the vollys really do something that would benefit a whole lot more people. Go paid and then donate your entire checks to charity. You actually would do more good in a months time than an entire lifetime in volunteer EMS.
  25. That is where proper education comes into play. Not all patients need RSI, crics, etc. But when you can not provide a definitive, protected airway to a person that is unable to protect their airway you just killed them. If a BVM will do the job, fine but if I wait till the airway collapses completely, or they have aspirated, I just killed them. Proper education helps one to know when to go big or when to KISS(keep it simple stupid). If I do not provide a definitive airway to a person that needs it, by the end of my long transport I can just divert to the funeral home.
