  1. My award for stupidest post ever written goes to................................ We are medical professionals not FF's. Medical professionals go straight thru education. They do not stop. EMS is the only medical field that this ideal is ever discussed and it is bull. Get your medical education then get in the field and like doctors do spend time under supervision getting experience.
  2. Study, study, study. I will be down with mine soon so it will end even though it is over whelming at times.
  3. From my experience it is usually on a company by company policy. Some decide it is worth spending the money on prevention others think its just cheaper to replace you so they let you get them at your own expense. Now if you are exposed at work then there are laws involved that dictate what companys must do. But for prevention I am aware of no laws forcing services to pay.

    Making the switch

So you have gone over the edge? Hope you the best. I do not ever see myself going into law enforcement. But just like EMS is not for all neither is LE.

    Advice Needed

Sharp noises seem to get better results than just a swat. Thats why I usually break a bad habit from most dogs with the can trick. Some like the shock collars that are sold to break bad habits.

    Advice Needed

Why not take the puppy to a dog trainer? Probably just a couple of visits and the puppy will be much more fun. Something that works good to get dogs attn while bad behavior is going on is to place a couple of pennys in an empty washed out coke can. When you see the dog start to be bad shake it while saying no firmly.
  8. Actually Ruff if the person has no need of the ambulance why would that be wrong? You are basically discouraging use of the ambulance when you have them sign the medicare/medicaid form that tells them that the transport may not be covered and they by signing are agreeing to pay. You are just educating patient to the fact that their choices come with a price. Of course this would not even be worth discussing if all had the right to just say no if caller actually had no injury or illness that would be made worse going by private car.
  9. R/r 911 that would take effort and would be common sense. Those two things on here I have learned quickly are not allowed in EMS. I guess you and I are just rebels. We both like learning as much as we can about our patients. I agree I hate that so many are taught the you don't need or won't use this in the field crap. Several people signed up for the intermediate program that I took online. They dropped out. Why? Because they were being required to go beyond what you have to know in the field. They now are completing an intermediate program that just focuses on the skills. That really scares me. I am a firm believer that as a Pre Hospital Medical Professional I need to know the ins and outs of what and why I do everything. I need to know what to expect from my treatment and what to be ready to do next. I also think it is important that I identify any problem I can, even those that in the field I can do nothing about, so i can point it out to the doctor so they can address it. We as a profession must get away from the minimum and start digging deep.
  10. Why you young whipper snappers are destroying the world. In my day day if we wanted to know someone we asked them we didn't go to your face dot com. Hell we did'n't even know dot com. I also walked uphill both ways to school and back home barefoot in the snow. But I really do not have myspace, facebook, etc. Why? Because my ugly mug would scare everyone away.
  11. Celiac disease is so under diagnosed in the USA that it is sad. I suggest anyone that has lots of stomach problems try an experiment and go off all food items that are contraindicated in celiac disease. The big one is wheat. It is amazing how quickly many peoples stomach problems improve or disappear when they stick to a gluten free diet. In other countrys gluten free food is readily available. In the USA you have to go to health food stores and pay an arm and a leg for anything. Most times you just make your own. I nearly lost my family because wife and kiddo remained sick despite all the meds doctors kept trying. Because of cancer they caught the problem in my mother-in-law as we read about it we decided to take and go on celiac disease diet. My family has done very good except when they have accidentally gotten into some food they shouldn't. I even have more energy when I stick to it. OK sorry for the hijack of the thread.
  12. Cowgirl's Saddle - Garth Brooks Last thing I remember was saying, "Hey y'all, watch this." Next thing I know I'm walking toward this light When a voice from out of nowhere asked this question. "Garth, what did you love most in your past life?" "Well," I said, "it had to be between cowgirls and horses." And as I wondered which one that I would settle on, The voice said, "May you be happy with your answer." I said, "What answer?" He said, "Watch this." And I was gone. (CHORUS) Now I'm back as a cowgirl's saddle Heaven on Earth for all eternity Forever in between Every cowboy's dream Riding horses, holding rodeo queens Sew me, show me, throw me in the pickup Take me, break me, make me what you need It's safe to say we're made for one another And you'll never fall if you just stick with me Fit me, sit me, get me how you want me Wrap me, strap me, slap me on your steed Can't believe I'm out here flying with an angel Oh this afterlife's sure looking up for me (REPEAT CHORUS) Loping, roping, hoping that you're happy Racing, placing, chasing all your dreams Makes me think if I'd lived life a little better Would I've come back as a pair of cowgirl jeans (REPEAT CHORUS) Every cowboy's dream You know just what I mean Riding horses, holding rodeo queens

  14. There is no way to satisfy every patient, but there are ways to avoid problems with the largest number. How? Look professional. Tats, piercings, and other body modifications are not considered professional. How many of your bankers, lawyers, doctors while at work have any of the above exposed? Not many. Heck even fast food places often say no exposed piercings for men and only one per ear for women. Along with the above have your uniform on correctly, shoes polished. Will some still get upset? Yes. But it will be much less than if you show up with the grim reaper or even star of life on your forehead.
  15. I can not believe this is even an issue. Heck many fast food places require all tats covered. In our business much of what we do that benefits our patients requires they be relaxed around us. If patients are thinking you are not professional or worse that you are there to rob them because of your tats do you really think they will talk freely with you? How hard is it for those that choose tats to where long sleeves or to get tats that are covered by uniform? Yes you have the right to have one if you want to, but don't throw a fit when some look at you as a thug. Yes they are getting more common and when we are all old we may be offended if our professionals don't have tats, but that day aint today. And please don't give me the well this patient was all into my tats. Yes there are some but there are still more that think your scum if you have a tat.
  16. Just tell him I said to keep his sorry rear off of here, we don't need him or want him here. This site is just for volly FF EMT's now and he's not welcome. If that doesn't get him back to posting nothing will.
  17. Study hard. Go deeper than what is required to pass. Also begin your plans to enter Paramedic course.
  18. Amen brother. As a paramedic student myself I have found that I really understood very little of what I thought I did. As I near completion of Paramedic school the knowledge of what I control scares the crap out of me. But what scares me more is how many patients would have had better outcomes had I already been a paramedic rather than waiting so many years.
  19. What the heck were you thinking sending me something educational? Did you not get the idea based on my school I might not want educational stuff? Just kidding. Actually very helpful get rich quick scheme you hooked me up with. Any of you others want in contact me for the best price toward getting rich. Just Kidding again. For real thank you very much for the EKG study materials you sent me. It has proved helpful. Thanks again.
  20. I 'll shed a tear with you. Thank you for the update. My thoughts continue with you and your family.
  21. Now should my hot wife be mad at you for saying she looks like that as she was my last date before marriage.
  22. My thoughts are with you and your family. Please take care of yourself as well so you will remain strong enough to take care of cheeky and the kids. Keep a close eye on the little one. Could be just fussy because mom is not there but might be getting sick as well.
  23. So I don't get banned for not being polite with my reply I will allow others to comment for me.
  24. Ummmmmmmmmm NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Surely you are joking?
  25. I am so glad I'm married and don't go out drinking. Of course may be scarred for life from those images. ](*,)
