  7. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25798114/?GT1=43001 Greek court rules lesbians not just from Lesbos Island residents asked for a ban on use of 'lesbian' to describe gay women Greek-American Paul Thymou, resident of the Aegean island of Lesbos, holds a banner reading: "If you are not from Lesbos, you are not a Lesbian," outside of an Athens courthouse on on June 10. View related photos Louisa Gouliamaki / AFP - Getty Images file updated 9:27 a.m. CT, Tues., July. 22, 2008 ATHENS - A Greek court has dismissed a request by residents of the Aegean island of Lesbos to ban the use of the word lesbian to describe gay women, according to a court ruling made public on Tuesday. Three residents of Lesbos, the birthplace of the ancient Greek poetess Sappho whose love poems inspired the term lesbian, brought a case last month arguing the use of the term in reference to gay women insulted their identity. In a July 18 decision, the Athens court said the word did not define the identity of the residents of the island, and so it could be validly used by gay groups in Greece and abroad. The ruling ordered the plaintiffs to pay court expenses of $366.2. "This is a good decision for lesbians everywhere," Vassilis Chirdaris, lawyer for the Gay and Lesbian Union of Greece, told Reuters. "A court in Athens could not stop people around the world from using it. It was ridiculous." He said the plaintiffs were free to appeal the decision in a higher court. Lesbos, which lies just off the Turkish Coast, has become a gathering spot for gay women from around the world, especially at the village of Eressos which is regarded as the birthplace of the poet in the 7th century B.C. Several residents testified during the trial that the use of the word lesbian had brought recognition to the island and boosted its tourist trade.
  8. Stubbed toes been there done that. Taxi fee bull crap. Make them pay full ambulance charge or go to jail.
  9. Echonator I'll see your 2 links with these much better two education links. http://www.techproservices.net/ http://www.percomonline.com/percom/Home/ta...58/Default.aspx and I'll raise you a bad education site: http://www.teex.com/teex.cfm?pageid=traini...amp;navdiv=ESTI
  10. I'm in EMS. I thought I was a taxi driver.
  11. The vent patients I have dealt with had family that knew how to suction and how to bag them if everything failed. None of the systems I have seen had any way to notify 911 if everything failed. Only way we found out is if family called.
  12. Origionally reported as my title was the title from the news report. News has updated but I can not edit, perhaps admin would edit my title. You should post your update here rather than making multiple topics on same event.
  13. I've actually had patients request us to take them to the store. They got mad when told ER or nothing. Of course a couple said ER then and I said sorry as you do not have an immediate threat to life or limb we are unable to take you. Sign here. Good bye.

  15. Sorry admin I'll get back on track. Now what was the subject?
  16. Richard only out dated people use any term for us other than Pre Hospital Medical Professionals. But notice I didn't take sides or did I?
  17. What usually based on experience happens is fire also claims the EMS runs in order to pad their numbers, thus getting more money for fire. EMS then ends up getting less funds to operate. Sorry I am not trying to start a fire vs EMS fight. It is clear that these are to separate fields and combining does not benefit the patients that are EMS's priority.
  18. Forget the family. Just show up you can always get a new family.
  19. Rid how true that is. I keep hearing about services getting paid for BS transports yet my services receive nothing. Why? Because I will not put anything that is not fact in my reports. I will not list them as ALS when BLS was a stretch. I will not say we lifted when patient walked to the ambulance. I will not say anything just for payment. It is a legal tight rope for services to specifically give you statements to use or not use for payment. As to screening over the phone, I do not like that idea. I am a firm believer in saying no to people that after an examine it is determined that they can safely go to hospital by other means. In fact at some point I expect insurance and medicaid/medicare will dictate changes that will make that the standard not the exception as it is today.

  22. Maybe I should be totally disabled. I mean my back hurts when I'm at work, that power cot just doesn't help. Climbing mountains, working on my house, and............... well those are therapeutic activitys. Really I can't do my job. How much more BS can I make it? I still don't think I could make it as much BS as this guys.
  23. Put him in jail for theft. Permant disability my rear. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,386570,00.html [web:7559bcae2b]http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,386570,00.html[/web:7559bcae2b]
  24. Lone and Andrew I see both of your points. I to think our classes in the new paramedic university should include things that actually deal with medicine. If you notice the courses I made up for my true university I tried to make all classes directly relate back to medicine. So how about having government class discuss how the various branches relate to or influence healthcare.
  25. Find a service seperate from fire. It is hard to be required to do both and it really leads to a divided person which ultimatly leads to patients suffering. And yes I was a FF.
