  1. OOPS, I hate when memory goes bad like that.
  2. That was dropped because witnesses disappeared. Actually even though you cross several states to get there you are not much further away than I am. Texas is big.
  3. North Dakota law allows the ambulance crew to refuse to transport an individual for which a transport is not medically necessary (N.D.C.C. § 23-27-04(2)). To deny transport of an individual that wishes to be transported the following must be complied with: · The EMS provider must believe that the individual does not need immediate medical attention or ambulance transport. · The EMS provider must contact medical control for a physician’s order of concurrence of denying transport. If the EMS providers are unable to contact medical control and/or obtain an order to deny transport, the individual must be transported to the nearest appropriate facility. · Recommend an alternate mode of transport to the individual; taxi, relative, or other means. · The EMS provider must fully document the event and notify the medical director as soon as practical. http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:pMyK_...;cd=1&gl=us
  4. Well they do say go big or go home.
  5. But is there a law that says you can not deny transport? I will take any patient that could suffer further injury or even death if transported by any means other than ambulance. At what is now my part time job we will treat minor injurys then send them on their way to the hospital pov. We will not take our ambulance out of service for somebody just wanting a ride. So does anyone know of any state law that specifically requires you to take all callers to the hospital?
  6. So if this had been a prehospital medical professional would we have even been given a second chance ever? http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...or.39b31fe.html [web:df5c554f2e]http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/latestnews/stories/072008dnmetmesdoctor.39b31fe.html[/web:df5c554f2e]
  7. So anyone planning on going?
  8. The states I checked into at EMT-B and EMT-I required at minimum a test and most even required sitting through a refresher course even with NR. At the NR Paramedic level I just would be required to send my card and my money and get to work. Now that was only 3 or 4 states I looked at as I could never move to yankee land. So it really is not a true look at all states.
  9. OK I keep hearing that you can not legally deny transport to anyone that requests it. OK show me the laws. I know that many have protocols that say no but that is not a law, that is the choice of your medical director. So my request is show me the state laws that say you must transport all callers that request transport. Show me where by state law that you can not say no to someone that just wants a ride but has no health problems. I am not saying they do not exist but no one has ever backed up their claims. Thank you for your help in educating all of us. It would be nice to have a list of all states with laws that show one way or the other.
  10. UMMM You may want to research the laws a little more. Many throw that out that it is the law here in Texas also. But actually you have the right to deny and can even file charges of 911 abuse on callers that have no real emergency. I could be wrong about your state but I would actually bet there is a way to be able to legally deny. In fact maybe...........well look for a new topic so I don't hijack this one.
  11. Might be best to let him go to grandmas. Perhaps he might man up and even help make things easier with his grandfathers condition. It would also get him away from friends that may be dragging him down. Whether he admits it or not he probably understands more about the type of person your ex is anyway. It really sounds as if there is no other option that would keep him from going further down hill. Sorry. I hope you the best.

  13. CBEMT how can you sell yourself so short? This goes back to denying transport to the guy that tells you he justs wants hospital lunch. I still can not believe how many said they would still transport. It takes zero education to know that is someone just wanting a free ride. Why tie up an ambulance that should be available in order someone really needs help? I agree we all need more education. This is not about clogging the ER with BS, this is about taking our ambulances out of service for those that need us. The ER can put people in waiting rooms. If we are transporting the guy to lunch and someone collapses next to the ambulance while we're at a stop light we can do nothing, we already have a patient so person dies for no reason while waiting for you to get back from dropping lunch guy off. So while with our limited education we will have to take most callers we should be able to still say no to some types of callers.
  14. But there is one absolute in EMS I am always right. Just kidding and if I have offended I apologize. Welcome to the city. Look forward to your future forum posts.
  15. From chbare: Fundamentals of Molecular Biology and Microbiology and Lab 110: This course will provide the student with a foundation of knowledge regarding the understanding of prokaryotic cell physiology and related pathology. Cell physiology, basic molecular biology and cell pathways are primary topics of study. Students should expect to write a paper on an assigned topic of microbiology prior to completing this course and should expect to handle scientific equipment and hazardous materials during the lab experience. In addition, students should expect to perform advanced procedures during the lab experience such as; electrophoresis, identification of an unknown organism, and various culture and stain exercises. From Andrew: MAT 109 Mathematics for Advanced Airway 4 Quarter Hours This course covers topics in intermediate algebra and emphasizes problems and applications in Advanced Airway. It includes such topics as: algebraic representation, factoring, approximate numbers, significant digits and scientific notation, first and second degree equations with applications, ratio and proportions, square roots, radicals and exponents, logarithms, graphing linear equations, vectors and the metric system. Prerequisite(s): MAT 104 There were several good ideas that I think we could combine to make the ultimate Paramedic University.
  16. Guess what. We just did it again. Now 15 days to paramedic. Same low price. We thought about 14 days but we just could not see shorting you on some key point. Quick yet quality so you will be qualified to handle any job that requires the minimum of you.
  17. Hey wheres my money? Just kidding. Who won the 1st and 2nd loser spots? And what did everyone win? Just thought I'd ask and also so that would make these great ideas move back up into the discussions.
  18. Guess I better go take my meds so the paranoia will go away. Ok so even if my scenario is to far fetched why do you want to help a person break the law?
  19. Vent I agree we need to get organized and educated. But at this time I have to continue my education as I can get it. Hopefully I will have my education complete so when and if ever we do get it elevated I am at or above the new requirements. But as time goes if it continues as is I will probably have to leave this profession I love doing. I have to say it is sad to have really no choices in EMS except to get education piece by piece. It is a big reason we are not respected or paid. Sadly some in EMS want to keep it this way. But a bigger group are the citys and fire departments trying to find ways to save money while providing services. They realize if we ever are required to meet higher standards they will be out more money. They fight tooth and nail to keep the minimum standards so they save money.
  20. That is true Doc. When doing my surgical rotations of clinicals surgeon was never there until time to start cutting. Foley was placed, I had intubated, surgical tech had all instruments and sterile field ready, and had even done initial scrub on patients. Then walks in Surgeon spins into his sterile gown and gloves. Chop chop. Surgeon unspins from sterile gown and gloves as he leaves sterile field and leaves us to wake patient up and surgical tech to clean up. But still if it was near my wifes privates I would not be a happy camper.
  21. Doc thank you for the information on how US would be used in the field. Doc I agree we need a national standard that is much higher than the standards in most areas. But I do think local areas medical directors should have ability to even require more based on need. As everyone knows that has been on this site long I come up with many ideas or mention things we do here that most think is totally unbelievable. Our Medical director (at what is now my part time job) requires us to be educated and expects us to perform many treatments that are just unheard of in the field in most areas. I hate that at my current full time job I have to dumb myself down to avoid going beyond what is allowed, yet according to many medics that travel in from big citys, those protocols are more advanced than any they have seen. So I dumb down yet they have to expand. And at my part time job we are currently working on a new set of protocols that requires even more education and allows many more procedures and meds. I guess that is why I get so frustrated when people do not want to expand EMS scope of practice. In a perfect world schools would be required to provide a much better education. Sadly though today we have no choice in EMS but to pursue education piece by piece. But I also see the do the minimum medics and understand why some think we should lose some treatments and skills. Myself I am a healthcare professional striving for the best not the minimum and I wish all the slackers would just leave my profession.
  22. As do I. But I sadly agree fully that until we get educated it is hard to get EMS to advance. I would prefer it at the beginning but sadly EMS at this time is not that way so those that want to advance must do it one piece at a time. Maybe change will come soon.
