  1. Might seek professional counseling for the anxiety. Some people explain what is going on and their Doctor prescribes a mild sedative, usually only 2 pills one to try to see how it affects you and the second for the test. Wow never heard anyone say we are the mellow site, normally people run away from here kicking and screaming that we are rude and stuck up know it alls plus many more descriptive words.
  2. New from the maker of trunk monkey comes ems professional monkey. If you don't agree that they function better than your current emt return for full refund.
  3. They did do a test showing modern versions of nitro patch do not explode when patient is shocked. In most cases patients firearm would actually be insulated from the shock by the holster and the primer on modern ammunition is not easy to set off accidental.
  4. It's a non issue as to what are you going to do, why? You are going to treat your patient. Common sense says you will not throw the gun out the back of the ambulance, you will just leave it in place or lock it up with their other valuables. That ends the entire discussion w/o even having a discussion. Now if the OP asked how can I secure a firearm that I find on my patient because I have no experience, much better way for this discussion. But no we have people spouting I will never allow a gun on my ambulance. So I guess no common sense will be used and gun will be thrown out the back door to end up in some kids hands and ............... See what I mean just a little common sense or change wording of questions to get a proper discussion.
  5. I perceive the problem as why the heck is this thread even created. It is a non issue. Unconscious, really dead patient with a licensed firearm on their person why is it even being brought up. Secure the firearm just like you do any other possessions of your patient and go on. Some mentioned firearms not being allowed on the ambulance, so if you find it after moving patient to ambulance just secure as mentioned previous sentence. Again non issue. People use some common sense.
  6. Number one item is there is no law in Texas anyway that says no firearms allowed in the ambulance. Second if I got return of circulation thus decided to transport I would not delay transport to have LE secure firearm. Remove it in holster if all possible and lock it in narc cabinet. At hospital turn it over to security of LE for retrieval by patient of patients survivors later. I really can not understand how why so many have such a problem with such a simple common sense item.
  7. W/o reading all posts I have to say there would be many variables to consider. I do think if you decided that it would not be possible to transport the animal you should explain why and also how the animal would be transported so the patient would be reassured that it was only temporary separation.
  8. So you mean hick town EMS is not gonna be famous? We were even willing to work topless and you know how much we love our hats out here.
  9. As long as you listen to me and ignore everyone else you will turn out to be a great taxi driver.
  10. What? Where? When? Huh?
  11. Nope taxi cab diary. But if we go with Traitor 911 Happy you will star in Traitor 2 the sequel. Oh did y'all miss me?
  12. I am thinking that all these negative posts are because she didn't choose your ambulance crew. You guy's are just jealous that she choose mine. You don't think there will be a problem when she finds out we are a bunch of fat bald old guys with kegs rather than 6 packs?
  13. In my experience, if called into court you can be assured that a copy of the report will have been picked up from the hospital as well as from your service. If there is a discrepecy it will show up between them and you and your service will have some explaining to do. Taking copies home is against policy in every agency I have ever had dealings with. Plus if you take the records home if a lawyer wants to be a jerk they could request your home be searched to ensure you are not hiding more evidence and depending on the case they just might find a judge to grant that. I keep no records or notes, nor would I want the responsibilty to prove I maintain records in a secure area that complies with all regulations.
  14. Are there many EMS texts available? How about RN texts? I don't seem to find many text for either in ebooks, but I may be looking in the wrong places.
  15. Be safe and post updates when you can.
  16. Hasta mi amigo. Hasta mi amigo.
  17. Hang in there young lady. I'm pulling for you. Why don't you create an avatar using an actual picture of you? Hellloooooo nurse!!!!!!!
  18. Sorry to hear about the health issues. Don't hesitate to seek professional counseling if things get overwhelming. When such drastic changes are forced on you it can be very depressing and depression starts a vicious cyle. In Las Cruces, New Mexico they are looking for EMS professors at the university there.

  20. Yes there are times we should just watch and monitor hoping they get get themselves out otherwise we just have to watch them die. Putting rescuers in just leads to more bodies to recover later.
  21. You can expect the same pay as the 12 week diploma mill Paramedics make starting out. Though you get the title licensed Paramedic employers just don't care which way you got your Paramedic. As to starting pay in Texas depends in part where. Anywhere from below minimum wage when you factor in the free stand by time required illegally by many services to around $30/hr. Realistically being new don't expect more than about $12. The well paying places normally want quality experienced Paramedics.
  22. Glad my EMS took over Fire rather than the reverse.

  23. Glad my EMS took over Fire rather than the reverse.

  24. History of termination will not hurt you. What will hurt you is there are a 1000 ( might be slight embellishment ) emt's for every job in California so odds are against you. On every EMS forum there are tons of basics from California saying they can not find a job.
