  1. If it actually happened as reported people should lose certification. But I have also seen how peoples emotions have clouded what they thought had happened. Family gets upset think they saw medic get out of cab instead of patient compartment. When they actually got out of side door. I have family start saying we shocked a patient and did CPR when no action was taken because patient was to far gone to even start. Peoples minds get clouded during stress. Did this happen this time? I do not know. I was not there. The only thing that is clear is that someone died. Was death because of negligence? Really only the two people in the ambulance know.
  2. Is this a late aprils fools? It is in Funny Section.
  3. Wacker. OK to help you with the wacker mobil. 1. How long will you be on scene by yourself before an ambulance gets there? 2. If by yourself how will you get to all the supplies? 3. Even though authorized L&S, have you upgraded your insurance? Standard car insurance will not cover you. I used to first respond in an area that I would be alone for an hour or more at times. I found an oxygen bag with basic O2 supplys, trauma bandages, and c-collar was enough. Never used much more than my gloves honestly. The biggest help my big iron duck O2 bag provided was the mental illusion to the patient that I could actually do something to help, which tended to calm them.
  4. I wish you would learn to open up and express yourself Ruff. It is unhealthy the way you keep things bottled up. Sincerely Dr. Spenac
  5. Thanks Doczilla. Now I have a better idea of what to look for. Also the link Dust provided had some good help with sizing and other questions. With this info I now plan to start looking. Thanks .
  6. DWD (Driving While Distracted) automatic grounds for me to say pull over so I can kick your butt. I do not tolerate my driver doing anything but driving. If I see anything else I am nice the first time I tell them to stop. If they ignore me and it happens again, it's on. I actually got someone fired for it recently. I take driving very serious and do not put up with DWD.
  7. Whats "Thands on Training"?
  8. First I hope she recovers and adapts to life w/o an arm. Wow 19 and driving. We really need to raise the age to drive to 25. Not responding to a call and hit parked truck. Wonder if texting and driving caused this tragedy.
  9. Treat the patient, not the machine. Read the map, not rely on dispatch.
  10. I have used www.techproservices.net . No problem with national registry, passed with no worrys. Online can be great or diploma mill depends on the school.
  11. The taxpayers pay our check so they feel they have the right to call an ambulance to be used as a taxi. As such we need to raise taxes and cut waste in other ares of government and increase available units. That and get medical directors with enough balls to authorize the crew to say no to people that can safely get to the hospital another way.
  12. Yes there are bad providers both paid and volly. The reason so many of us object to volly services is it kills the level of pay paid professionals can make. It constantly comes up at budget time why do you need more money that service does it for free. So I have been hurt by vollys. As to this thread, this was a dispatch error and driver error. Quick check the map to confirm where you are going. Everyone knows dispatchers get it all wrong.
  13. Not fire based here and had only one issue. The factory tech walked me through fixing it. No other McCoy Miller issues. We took delivery of it Dec 2006. Now I did hear rumor that they were bought out or joining forces, something along those lines. Perhaps that happened and quality has changed.
  14. Actually I have decided to become a whacker. I figured a vest and batman belt would allow me to have anything and everything with me at all times. J/K Really I have know clue as to what would be practical. I actually doubt I will ever be where I would need bullet proof. But if it helps absorb the shock from say a wreck or even a kick could see that. I know bull riders now where a vest that absorbs much of the shock from getting stomped by a bull. We had a patient restrained, at the hospital they said they could not restrain so they released patient. At least one nurse ended up with broken ribs after patient kicked them. Perhaps vest would have helped. Am I going to go out and buy one today? Probably should, but no money. Darn IRS took it all. But will be looking at it in the future. I'm old and want to get older.
  15. No it means hitting what you aim at.
  16. Is this what we need? http://cgi.ebay.com/BULLET-PROOF-STAB-VEST...1QQcmdZViewItem
  17. Only if it is a shotgun wedding.
  18. I agree that somebody closer responding is no problem. Even off duty I get called if it sounds bad. If able I respond. I have told several that their loved ones were dead and nothing can be done. I have also cleared airways on children that would have died waiting for an ambulance. Now I do have my time sheet reflect the extra hours. I do not give my services away for free.
  19. Sorry if already stated. I am to lazy to read all posts. This is easy. Take her. She is A&O X 0. She did not give correct answers so she is not capable of making a rational refusal. I would write out each question asked and her answer. I would also include that you were told she has mental problems per who ever told you. IMHO there was no need to waste medical controls time. Load her and go. If you actually think she is mentally there and just being hard headed explain to her that she has to answer your questions or she will not have a say in her care.
  20. To get back on topic and because nobody answered my question. Is there a multi purpose bullet proof vest that could also carry all my supplys?
  21. McCoy Miller makes a nice ambulance for the money. They are are mid line as regards to costs. At my old job, now my part time, we have two. One the patient compartment is now on its 3rd chassis and has been well over 600,000 miles, it is our back up unit. The newest ambulance is also McCoy Miller. Patient compartments are laid out pretty nice. Cabinets are a little deep so at times supplies shift and you have to dig. As far as factory tour. These places are places of work, not a place for your enjoyment. Having owned my own construction company, I have been to many factories. Many supply companys trying for my business paid to fly me all over the USA to see factories. One thing I found out is many places also give bonuses for production. So you being there may slow down production thus costing the workers money. You cost me money and I'm going to find it hard to sing and dance for you.
  22. Congrats are due to ......................................... Leener for being the person that suspected spider bite in the outhouse. And congrats to the winner of name that spider go to .......................................Ruff. And honorable mention goes to ...............................Wendy for going way beyond her level, for not being satisfied with the basics. Two very important lessons, maybe more, came from this. 1. No matter our level of certification we should strive to continue our education. 2. Not all doctors stay up to date. So if you require treatment don't just take the docs word for it, do some research.
  23. Thank you for joining in and playing the game. Perhaps will catch you in chat. Well Wendy has even made the hospital look bad. They did what she has found is no longer in favor. Patient that this scenario with many changes to it to protect the innocent also had to have dialysis I found out. In the ambulance we did treat with promethazine, morphine, toradol, oxygen, heat packs as Wendy mentioned taped in place, Calcium gluconate gel form rubbed on to site, cold pack at bite site, and more but do not remember for sure all of it. EKG beyond being Tachy was unimpressive, perhaps some very mildly elevated T waves. Wendy very impressed. Good job. Nice to see a basic reaching for more in depth info.
  24. I surrender. I will not fight this crap any longer. Give me a hose, I'm going be a hero too.
  25. You mean I have to make an effort to search for it myself. The way so many new people have been acting I thought people just asked and someone else would do the search for them.
