  1. I check. Also if working a wreck not a bad idea to get someone to check the glove compartment as some people keep a DNR and other medical info in them.
  2. Do what I suggested. Heck if not posted you could even meet the crews while they clean the ambulances at the hospital. But emailing and calling is not best way to get a job. In person is where you need to be.
  3. I took my own advice and searched for a topic. Now I can freely tell others to search because I did.
  4. Tunnel vision is a horrible thing. In fire if to focused on one point rather than the big picture you can get cooked. In the case you presented your EMS partner may have had that one focus and missed the big picture, or perhaps just a bad day. This is a classic example of the need of two paramedics on an ambulance at all times so all the pressure is not on one person. Two IV attempts each, if no success move on to another option for example EJ or IO if patients condition warrants. In the case you describe the paramedic had no one of equal certification to fall back on when trouble arose which may have actually contributed to the tunnel vision and perceived mistakes.
  5. Look for places that their ambulances are. Walk up and introduce yourself. If you can make friends better chance of getting in the door. Also go visit the station. Meet people. Networking will get you a job faster than emailing an ap.
  6. Yall Darn Yanks talk funny.
  7. It Wasn't Me - Shaggy
  8. Check back in with them. Also make friends with some of the crews. If you see them at meal break buy it for them. Many jobs are gotten by who you know, not what you know.
  9. Now thats a book not a patient care form.
  10. It is nice to have your perspective. All on here at times learn something new. Please keep posting and don't let any of our comments which sadly at times come across a little harsh, stop you. Hey I as an experienced EMS professional and current Paramedic student always love when experienced people are willing to set an example by continuing to educate themselves rather than getting the patch and then no more effort.
  11. Wow only 8 hours of class time. Surely must be more.
  12. Well I am totally anti volley  . As to the two responding POV I see no fault in that if they did not delay the ambulance. I had a neighbor come to my house when her baby turned blue. I chose to treat the baby rather than tell her sorry I am off the clock, wait for the ambulance. By the time ambulance showed up baby was nice and pink. Sadly for the 2 first responders they had a long wait for help with proper equipment to arrive. It probably breaks their hearts that the child died. Yes maybe they are whackers and volly's :pukeright: , but they were trying to help a child, good for them. Do they need to go paid? YES. Do they need to all be paramedics? Yes. But had they had no training I hope their hearts would have moved them to help as best they could. Now as to the dispatch and ambulance crew direction screw up, as Ricky used to tell Lucy,"You got some splaining to do".
  13. Definitly need major improvements over what is currently out there. http://www.emtcity.com/phpBB2/link.php?url...mp;feature=user [web:0d24167ce5]http://www.emtcity.com/phpBB2/link.php?url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03R7XjXBWmE&feature=user[/web:0d24167ce5]
  14. A week or so ago just about had to kill my partner. He would joke time for a wreck within the next 10 minutes tone to a wreck. Then he joked we have not worked a code in a while, within the hour we had respiratory arrest, so not full code but darn close enough to piss me off. He thought he was funny popped off we have not gone to the nursing home, low and behold not long after away we go to nursing home. This went on for an entire 12 hour shift, had he been with me the whole 24 I would be writing this in prison  . I actually started wondering if he was paying somebody to go do what he was saying. By the end of his shift he actually was a little freaked by it.
  15. This subject has come to mind again because of some cases I can not discuss. Perhaps a revisit of it will be good for me and perhaps help all make sure they are doing proper exams.
  16. Just curious if any new thoughts about this subject have come to mind. I feel it is an important subject that all and especially the many new EMT's that have joined us recently need to consider.
  17. The gripe many of us have with even some long time posters is very unprofessional text message style posting, grammar that is worse than a first grader, and not using spell check. I am sorry for building on what you took as hostility. Please feel welcome to post, we enjoy new points of view.
  18. Well good point. Also a search will provide discussions on this subject as well.
  19. Sounds like education is the key if you want to cross the pond.
  20. It depends on the college you took paramedic at. If not at a college you get 0 credits for your time and effort.
  21. And they have more there.
  22. Scroll down their index and click on multimedia and it will show the videos available.
  23. Look up radio report form EMS or pre hospital report and you will find some ideas. But really just a blank note pad or glove works fine to place your info.
  24. Have you seen theses videos about how unsafe our ambulance is? http://www.paramedicsafety.org/multimedia.htm[web:0d30683bc0]http://www.paramedicsafety.org/multimedia.htm[/web:0d30683bc0]
