  1. Lets help the change along by having all volunteers walk and demand pay for their services.
  2. dust there would be nobody left. You and me would be out quick because we are very opinionated.
  3. Still slow down and stop. We have some intersections that appear to have a mile of visibility each way but what you don't realize is that there is a low area that you do not see cars in until to late. One of those just got made into a four way stop and it is in the middle of nowhere because it appears clear but really isn't( numerous fatalities over the past several years at the intersection ). Don't take it for granted. Take an extra 10 seconds and stay alive. If I'm working on the patient I want a nice smooth safe ride. I do not mind working an extra minute or 10 if it means I go home alive and well.
  4. Their is no justification for blowing red lights or stop signs. Slow down, stop, stay alive.
  5. We run as a MICU ( Mobile Intensive Care Unit ). All of us also work at other busier services as well. There is no argument to justify not being a paid service. In a very rural situation as this service is when we get calls they are serious and often with multiple patients. Of the last 10 calls here only one was for lack of better word BLS and it was a non-transport. The rest required paramedic treatment. But even if they had all been non-transport it would still be no excuse not to be a paid service. It really does not cost anything beyond labor to change from volunteer to paid. Force the issue and make it happen. This will benefit all of us and more importantly the patients we treat.
  6. I get $15/hr paid 24 hours a day at a service that gets less than a 100 calls a year. This is an ALS truck. The county is almost entirely inhabited by people living below the poverty level. There is no way a county/city can say they can not afford a professional service, they just need to get their priorities right.
  7. You can post title names. You just can not advertise your own product unless you pay for advertising. A search will list several study aids that others have benefited from.
  8. Oh behave baby. Maybe have to rethink our anti volly stance.
  9. What is the point of speed? It really has no real value. Even a critical patient could be harmed more by all the extra vibration and bouncing at a high speed. At a high rate of speed the medic in back can do nothing for the patient because they have to hang on for dear life. Then throw in the added risks to all in the ambulance and the general public. Pure stupidity running fast. Treat your patients and get there safe. The extra few seconds or even few minutes for us extremely rural EMS people makes no difference in the big picture. Do what is best for the most and slow down.
  10. Big Bend National Park has had an ambulance for many years.
  11. Now thats a great tshirt slogan for the city.
  12. Heres an idea. Tell them to remove all clothes so you can do a complete exam, and thus be able to better decide what needs to be done.
  13. And don't leave out volly vs paid or fire vs EMS.
  14. I tell them that my consultation fees are $250, plus additional fees for the physical exams, but I know a little discount clinic down the road that actually is cheaper as good if not better care.
  15. Well here we had a bad title that actually led to some good discussion, but now has become crap. Can't we all just get along as the criminal Rodney King asked.
  16. Michael great post on why EMS Fire need to be separate. Wonderful illustrations. NREMT-Basic your posts bring another perspective that when, as most on this topic are, giving your point without an attacking attitude I enjoy reading even if I disagree with them. That is the fun part of this site that we all work in different environments, have different levels of experience, etc, that work to form our opinions of EMS. As to your attack first attitude that you mention working on, I changed so I am sure you can to. I sometimes write out my initial reaction that bashes somebody then I keep editing it till it is much nicer.
  17. IMHO choose one profession and become the best at it. Being divided hurts you and more importantly the people you claim to want to help. Fire and EMS are completely unrelated monsters and have no business together. The only reason they are combined is the cheap penny pinchers at city hall don't really care what is best they only care what is cheapest.
  18. Thanks Brentoli that explains a lot.
  19. nope none nada zero zip
  20. Never any intent to argue. Stated the facts and that is all. No bait planted.
  21. Whats her email so I don't accidentally tell her?
  22. Actually while i know it can be used there are no services within 300 miles of me using it. Perhaps the other poster just never seen it or heard of it because of similar.
  23. Great idea until the psyco patient decides to strangle you with them. It is a bad idea to carry your stethoscope around your neck. If you need it around your neck do so by the ear pieces so if someone grabs it, it comes off.
  24. But this is not an expansion of scope it is just renaming the EMT-I.
