Get a lawyer you would lose. Businesses already have the right to set standards. There is no law that says cannot discriminate based on age, race, ink . I owned a business and my people no matter how dirty we got had to look professional. Yes I provided extra uniforms. As far as ink, you may be able to do the job but the customer does not see it that way. Cover your tats. To take it further, IMHO I can work as good or out work most of you on here with my butt crack ( alternative cleavage ) hanging out. So I should demand my right to do so. No I should show respect to the profession and our patients ( customers ) by pulling up my pants. Do I still have a butt crack yes. Your tats are the same way, you still have them to share with your peeps, but cover them up as a sign of respect for our profession and patients.

Last Dec brand new ambulance, first call. Got 15 miles into the old 90 mile transport and broke down. Only thing I could figure was the holy water the city had the priest sprinkle it with broke it. -
Whats the logic behind LR over NS? My new service only has NS, reason being some drugs should not be given with LR. Just curious. Welcome to the site. Are you management in disguise?

I'm a firm believer in denying transport to those that do not need it. What I have found funny is that those that need to go usually are the most resistant to going. I guess they fear that by saying yes they are admitting they have a serious problem. But somebody with a stubbed toe will whine and cry and beg to go.

Whats it matter if it is appendicitis and stomach flu? 99% of the time neither requires use of an ambulance. Actually in the past 5 years I have only had one person that I said had stomach bug that turned out to be appendicitis, and that one had been given pain meds in Mexico that I had not been informed of. I have picked up many patients from USA clinics and Mexico ambulances that have been told by doctors that they have appendicitis and after evaluation I told them they did not and every time I was right when we got to the hospital and got labs and ultrasounds, etc back. I must be missing some part of the bet statement.

Update. Check out this statement: But according to a police officer familiar with the incident, police told paramedics at least twice that the woman was still breathing. "They kept telling everybody, 'No, she's not. ... She'll die in a few minutes,'" said the officer, who requested anonymity because he is not authorized to speak about the case. [web:75052ec42e]http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/metro/stories/MYSA121807.01B.womandies.28cdca3.html[/web:75052ec42e] UPDATE: Woman left for dead dies Web Posted: 12/18/2007 01:24 AM CST Brian Chasnoff Express-News A Texas State University senior who was presumed dead after a traffic collision and left unattended in the wreckage for more than two hours in near-freezing temperatures died of her injuries Monday afternoon, officials said. advertisement Erica N. Smith, 23, was pronounced dead at Brooke Army Medical Center at 2 p.m., two hours before Fire Chief Charles Hood held a news conference at which he refused to accept responsibility for the misdiagnosis of her condition. Smith — who at the time of the crash was alive, suffering from a head injury and in critical condition — was left early Sunday without aid at the site, covered in a yellow tarp, while two others who had been in the same vehicle were taken to BAMC with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other car, Jenny Ann Ybarra, 28, was taken to University Hospital for a blood draw and because she had complained of back pain, police said. Ybarra was later charged with intoxication assault. It was not known late Monday whether earlier treatment would have saved Smith's life, or the extent of her injuries when she arrived at the hospital. But the two-hour lapse between the time of the crash and when Smith finally received care upset at least one of her relatives. More coverage KENS video: Crash victim who was left for dead dies "It is unfathomable to me that my little cousin sat, bleeding, under a tarp and in the cold while receiving no medical attention," wrote Kimberly McGuire, a cousin of Smith's, in an e-mail to an Express-News reporter. "I can't help but wonder if her injuries would be less severe had she received the prompt medical treatment she deserved." Emergency medical personnel often cite the "golden hour," the 60 minutes between a person's critical injury and the moment before the body begins to shut down. Hood, standing before a throng of news cameras on Monday, would not say how the paramedics determined Smith's condition, saying only that they generally check for vital signs, which can be compromised in cold weather. The low temperature on Sunday — the wreck occurred just before 4 a.m. — was 29 degrees. "The paramedics, when they were doing their job, they didn't think they were missing anything," Hood said. But according to a police officer familiar with the incident, police told paramedics at least twice that the woman was still breathing. "They kept telling everybody, 'No, she's not. ... She'll die in a few minutes,'" said the officer, who requested anonymity because he is not authorized to speak about the case. Hood said the incident is under review, and the paramedics involved are expected to return to work Wednesday for their regular shifts. He said the review's findings likely would remain confidential in accordance with current law. "I don't foresee any discipline for (the paramedics)," Hood said, adding, "There's nothing to apologize for. We weren't driving the vehicle that hit the car." According to the police report, a team of four paramedics responded to the head-on collision shortly before 4 a.m. at Loop 410 near Rigsby Road. Smith, in the front passenger seat of a Honda Accord that police said had been struck by Ybarra, was covered with a tarp. Assuming she was dead, the medics instead worked to "save the most savable victims," Hood said. A medical examiner's investigator arrived at the scene at 5:14 a.m. Shortly before 6 a.m., after determining that Smith was not really dead, a second team of paramedics arrived to treat her, the report said. Hood, who became chief of the Fire Department in April, said he visited Smith's family at BAMC for half an hour on Monday to express his sympathy. "It was difficult, man. I was in tears," Hood said. "You can't describe the amount of grief in there." Ybarra, the driver of the other vehicle, was released Sunday from Bexar County Jail after posting $5,000 bond. Police said Ybarra's gray Pontiac GS veered into an oncoming lane on Loop 410, striking the Honda Accord. Sabrina Shaner, 22, the Accord's driver, and backseat passenger Amber Wilson, 22, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

So it was definitely defiantly working? Did you try and shut it off but it kept working anyway? Sorry could not resist. Never had a defiant light before. -
It was done in spirit of jest. It was done to illustrate honestly how little info I was able to gather after reading the thread. Wish I hadn't done it because the ink people known as hells angels are camped around my house . Just kidding. I do think it is very unprofessional to have exposed ink. In my area most people still look at ink as you are a biker trouble maker or an escaped inmate. I do realize that now days many consider it art, I don't but that is my opinion. But back to my OP if an outsider had read what I had just read that was about all they could conclude, that or that all paramedics are sex perverts.

At least you wouldn't have to listen to the BS patient's whining about the stubbed toe.

FTD Fixing to die

In defense of the paramedics at least their mistake was found before the wrecking yard. I know not really a winning defense.
-
Yup. No of course not. I was just illustrating what I was able to get based on discussion in this post. Blanket statements are always false, oops blanket statement so maybe not always. Sorry should have clarified in post. No offense intended. As long as ink is always covered when at work it's your choice.
-
So based on this topic about ink I have concluded ink = scum. You either harass or cheat. Been in EMS long time. Met some great looking females. Never cheated with any of them. I have not harassed any of them. I have no ink. No ink = professional. Just my view based on the facts I have before me.

Coming Down Under from the tundra of Minnesota

I actually looked into moving to the land down under when I was much younger and in a different field. There were some requirements that had to be met to go down there. Then I found out I still had to pay all my debt so what was the point. But if I can remember back 15-20 years seems like you had to have a sponsor, someone that would give you a job. Is that still true or did I get confused? Hope you the best youngster. If you do go maybe you can make Timmy behave.
