  1. Comics, good idea. I think I'll take some next time. I usually have a book or 2 with me also. If not I will reread protocols. I have even pulled out the ambulance manual and started studying the wiring schematics. I get bored easy so try to keep my brain active.
  2. Please do not enter our health care profession with the goal of driving ambulance [-X . We only want people interested in becoming health care professionals =D> . Can we help you to see what is involved in being a health care professional :dontknow: ? :clock: Seems much time has gone by and OP has not commented. Perhaps I should see if I can make my offer in chat to them :pottytrain5: .
  3. SWAT SAR me thinks some here are thinking big city. I understand this to be rural and remote. You call in those resources where I am will have to wait 12-24 hours.
  4. Any time you have an obvious law suit you better go big or go home. You will be part of law suit. I would rather defend a little extra caution than not enough.
  5. I strongly disagree with you Dust. There is no reason not to verify protocols, especially of the things that you do not use often. How often have I done it besides verifying dosages? Very seldom but there have been times when patient did not respond to treatment on the long transports I used to have, so I would look back and see if patient might fit in a different protocol so I could do more for them. For initial treatment other than dosages actually never referred to protocols, but I would not hesitate if I was not sure. I do strongly agree you should know your protocols, but when a question creeps up refer back.
  6. Not really. But then many doctors while they have a degree and a license, have no clue either.
  7. Are you allowed to say you googled yourself on here?
  8. Congrats twinkie. Now go out and do harm or was it no harm. Oh well have fun.
  9. Tell the drunk to go down and see if his friend is there and OK. In my area you find other ways to get to scene, is it steep all the way around or can you work your way around and down? Or let the buzzards have a good meal.
  10. Come on thats a given. Besides in law suit 101 your taught not to mention lawsuit so they will say stupid stuff like we'll take care of everything. Heck I slip on the milk I spilled on their floor, KA_CHING. Call me a rich man. OK it is possible she will not sue but if I had not just quit my job I would cover any and all bets, I say she will sue as will so many others that were pushed and shoved and fell. You always hurt more after the excitement ends.
  11. Hope the medics were able to go get some bargains. Wheres the back board, c-collar? She was trampled. She is claiming to be a trauma patient to sue wally world, treat her as a trauma patient. Second rule of EMS all trauma patients are naked patients. At least the others were tough enough shoppers to get up and still go fight for the bargains.
  12. To get back on topic: Any service that does not do any 911 calls or emergency hospital to hospital transports is not EMS. Do not know if all you do is haul people home and to appointments if you should even be called medical.
  13. OK you win the stink is an insulting stereotype.
  14. Being that it's rural and I had something similar happen, here is what happens. You and your partner are it other than maybe a deputy or 2. Knowing the area you probably have access to like a Honda Mule, John Deere gator, or similar. You will ride in using spot lights. Helicopter in area will not have heat camera, So basically it's you on the ground going into most likely areas. Before heading in you will have dispatch contact area law and any first responders, (just like you they are as close to SAR as rural areas have), but probably will not be any help till sometime in the morning. On your mule you will search areas where this happens the most but will not put yourself into danger. If locate you will radio or sat phone location and if safe take and board patient and what other your allowed to do, if alive, otherwise sheet over them and stay nearby to keep wildlife from gnawing on the remains. Am I in ball park for your scenario? That is how search and rescue works in my part of the world.
  15. Regardless of stupid laws I stand by my first statement. "Please do not enter our health care profession with the goal of driving ambulance. We only want people interested in becoming health care professionals. Can we help you to see what is involved in being a health care professional? "
  16. What do you call a new born? A slime ball. Yes we have names for all levels. No disrespect is intended but is done to help us avoid angering that big old hippo if we were to use names in our gripes. In person even the pure BS tax money waster still should be treated with the respect we would want our family ( the part we like that is  ) to receive.
  17. In this scenario are you just the package carrier? Is it your credit cards being used? Are you on any type of sedation? OK to real scenario. My area , call in deputy, border patrol, and park service rescue, to help locate. Someone with intimate knowledge of area may be able to question drunk for clues as to location. Does drunk know if guy was still talking when he left? If not this may be a recovery. Are we sure friend is real and not imaginary? Has there been a recent movie or TV show where someone fell that this guy in drunken state has imagined really happened? Probably will have to wait for day light for rescue if can locate victim.
  18. Thank you for the clarification. Your very right not all with education can do the job, but they have a better chance than the person with no education. I know some guys that are actually very good class room educators but in the field they can not do what they preach. I used to work with a medic with a masters degree that just sucked. But can you imagine with no education how bad. That scares me.
  19. If only you could make them blast out the siren. Bet get peoples attn.
  20. Now theres a pair that need to stay in the comforts of the hospital and let paramedics do what needs done.
  21. Dude keep it quite that your bro's in the mob. I'd hate to hear that you bought a new pair of concrete shoes.
  22. Whats a sheads? :?:
  23. There may be professional haulers but you can not say without being a liar that you are in EMS if all you do is haul people back home or to appointments. If you choose to be a taxi driver be a professional one. If you choose to be in EMS be professional. Be professional regardless of how others act. Education comment by one of the posters scares me. Hopefully clarification will come to make it better. As written basically poster says education is not needed for good patient care. That is a dumb idea. I will never say that education guarantees that a provider will be good because there are always people that just don't care. But I can guarantee that the more education I have received the better my patient care has gotten.
  24. I know the protocols, but I verify before administering meds. No shame in looking. The 10-15 seconds could keep you from a major error. Also on unusual calls will look to see if might be able to try another way of treating patient if what I try first fails.
  25. Good one.
