  1. First rule of EMS = SAFETY FIRST
  2. Thankfully those I deal with are cool. We all work together.
  3. Myself I do not degrade anyone for doing a job. Under current abused guidelines this is how many services make money, that is doing non emergency taxi. And I agree some do it for the reason they enjoy a less stressful work environment. But my point is there needs to be a new designation for those that do not do emergency work.
  4. I love when the time wasters ask me as I am leaving how soon till a Doctor will be in. I'm always honest "maybe 4 or 5 hours, possibly more, have a great day." Same answer whether they are only patient or not.
  5. The flight crew is in charge when they take over care. I always invite them into my truck to see what they have, rather than rushing patient over to them. If they need/want to do anything to the patient in my ambulance, I assist or get out of the way, their preference. I understand they have a tighter area to work so I offer as much help as I can. But again I am in charge until they take patient care over.
  6. Until I turn care over I am the highest level. I am the patients advocate. Once I turn care over they are in charge. No egos, just the facts.
  7. I would say rules should be in place for safety. We work in a dangerous profession, why not take a few risks out of the picture.
  8. We should all carry concealed weapons to put idiots out of our misery. For possible close combat have sucs pens, just 1 quick pop and watch the thugs collapse in fear then shoot them. There is that what everyone thinks those of us that carry are like. Geez people a little prevention can make sure I go home safe.
  9. Nobody over 70 should be driving. Nobody under 25 should be driving. 1 has no reflexs and could drop dead any minute. The other has no experience and thinks they can do no wrong. Both are deadly dangerous. Sorry. My safety first.
  10. That is funny. Perhaps different in your area but 90% of NH calls in my area are nurses just getting patient out of the way for a couple of hours. Yes in my new job we have a nursing home that abuses EMS.
  11. Back a couple decades ago when going for higher education out in Arizona, I kept being second to a guy that never studied, came to school and slept. I found out he had gotten the answer sheets for the tests. I dropped anonymous note, did not say who had the answers, etc. Next exam he failed, exam was changed. I ended as top student. He had to retake subject.
  12. Any service that does not do any 911 calls or emergency hospital to hospital transports is not EMS. Do not know if all you do is haul people home and to appointments if you should even be called medical.
  13. Screw the laws. There should be 2 medics in back plus a third medic driving. That way you can handle any real call you get. I would not work for a service that only has 1 emt or paramedic on board with just blow joe driver.
  14. Wow 20-30 miles no biggie. I travel 150+ 1 way to get to my new full time job. Caps right sometimes you have to sacrifice in order to get out of a bad situation. Hopefully leaving may help your old service re-think how it works and in the future it may be a place worth going back to. I have hopes my old service will improve.
  15. I remember when knee high to a grasshopper, saying I want people to waste my time, puke on me, and barely survive.
  16. But they have mob backing so they get better pay and benefits than we do. Watch your back they may have spys on here. -10 not posting in funny section
  17. Volly fire might take 4 hours to show up and then drunk or high. So not an option. Of course we could deny to transport just like garbage collectors refuse to take all garbage.
  18. Where your at the garbage men actually leave the truck and touch the trash? Ours they just drive up and mechanical arm grabs and emptys trash into truck. Wish we had something like that for our BS calls.
  19. If your going to fast for the medic in the box to safely work you are doing no good for the patient. Even L&S should not mean running like a bat out of hell. Really the 1-3 minutes saved in most services is not going to change patient outcome so come off of it. Slow down, be safe, and go home to your familys(they need you more than the stranger in the box).
  20. Regardless of stupid laws I stand by my first statement. "Please do not enter our health care profession with the goal of driving ambulance. We only want people interested in becoming health care professionals. Can we help you to see what is involved in being a health care professional? "
  21. I still watch the intersections. Recently had a cop block intersection as we approached, don't recall patient they all run together. A car decided to go around him. Had I not covered the brake, been slowing down, and been watching closely life would have gotten bad quick. Oh by the way I listened as cops stopped the idiot. They made him go with them to the judge and had to pay a $500 fine right there according to the officer later.
  22. Try ebay. Search duty belt, belt liner, or nylon belt, etc. If you already know you want uncle mikes search it.
  23. Continue your education all the way to Paramedic without stopping. Waiting is a waste of time.
  24. Thats all folks, don't you feel safe.
