Unless I missed something you are the first to say that on this topic. Dust our most famous "if ALS" person did not bring it up best I can tell. All any have said is it doesn't take medical people to take people to appointments, thats what taxis are for.

Well I can't add much. Thank you Dust and tniuqs you made the argument better than I would have for those of us here in frontier medicine to have that option. And I applaud those that did some research and based on that argued against it. I do agree that all should be educated to do this. But in the field those within 15 minutes of the hospital would not change care based on it so really probably never be placed in your protocols. I have always maintained that EMS is not a one size fits all business. I hope that this as well as some of my other topics helps a few of you to get out of your box. Of course some of my other topics have caused some to get mad just because it made you uncomfortable since you would not even try and open your mind. I am a firm believer that we can become real healthcare professionals. But to do it we are all going to have to get out of our comfort zones. One last argument for those in areas like mine. As I have mentioned before many of my OB's are illegal. They have been told all kinds of horror stories including that their baby will be taken from them. They get on the ambulance and they will say they have no pain. They stay quit and still. Honestly when I first started I thought most of them were faking labor. There is no outward indication that they are about to deliver. To check dilation could at least help us stay up on if there is a real chance of delivery. Yes I know a lady can go from 1 to 10 in minutes or days, but any extra information is helpful. And as Dust has mentioned a pre-term is really one that you need to stay on top of. When your by yourself and deliver a pre-term you are stuck in the back trying to keep the premie alive and manage the mother, because your partner is driving. Somebody mentioned bust out the OB kit and just get ready. Well if I opened an OB kit and used the gowns and gloves every patient my entire supply budget would be gone just on OB kits. Now the legal side in the USA more and more doctors are refusing to deliver because of all the lawsuits and I feel that means it is even more important for us to do a complete exam to cover ourself. Yes itniuqs, in the USA everything sadly is about the possible lawsuit rather than the patient. So I say we all need more education so we can all have the option of expanded scopes of practice based on the needs of our area.

Real ambulances do not need to be used to take grandma to her appointment, it is a waste of resources and tax payer money. To argue I once saved a person because they were in the ambulance instead of a taxi is a bogus argument. By that logic ambulances should be used instead of taxis, busses, and even private vehicles cause we just might catch someones heart attack before it becomes bad. It's time to choose are you a taxi driver or a healthcare professional?

Thank you for the kind of a compliment. You have missed the point, I forget that you are still new to site. Training vs education has been discussed here many times. I am glad you have a group that actually sounds to be educated rather than just trained. The protocols here are very expanded and no medical control calls. Another quick point you will always lose points on this site by using NR to back anything. Sorry about that. I must keep in mind if I have to explain the jokes it is not funny.

Enough religious lessons. I only mentioned the scripture to give the OP insight into why tattoos have been looked down on for so long. I do highly suggest that anyone getting tattoos do so in places that will be covered at work. Professionals need to carry themselves as such. If a patient is nervous about you based on your appearance you will find it tougher to gain their confidence, to have them view you as a professional, which can and will hurt your ability to treat as they will not speak as freely with you.

First off 2 Timothy 3:16 says all scripture inspired of God, it doesn't say just christian greek scriptures(new testament). If you read and study entire bible you will find it is in harmony from Genesis to Revelation. Yes changes occurred from Jesus but he even qouted Hebrew Scriptures(old testament). I hate to say it is not a training problem it is a lazy medic problem. Look, touch, feel, listen. If you take and check them you wont have the dead waking up on you.

I think it can be a great tool. I do worry that if not careful some docs would treat the machine rather than the patient. I do know it would've saved me a $10000 hospital stay. Even though EKG and blood work normal they erred on side of caution and kept me 2 nights and sent me home, unknown cause of chest pain. Quickly found out cause once home but different story. I do think it would have been comforting even if kept in hospital to have a higher degree of certainty that it was not heart related.
