  1. Way to go, keep up the good work. Don't stall at any of the steps required to reach Paramedic.
  2. Whats a "funraiser" ? I bet you mean fund raiser  . Paint numbers on curbs. If rural sell cinder blocks with house number painted on it. Mow yards. Car washes, etc. Chores that people need done.
  3. OP do a search, this poor pony has been beaten so much he's just dust in the wind.
  4. My response was a suggestion that would solve the experience prior to entering field as a Paramedic. For 6 months you would strictly be working BLS skills. Then you would be slowly building more skills while working as an EMT-I. You would get plenty of patient contact and have a good idea of how to treat patients once you receive your Paramedic. My suggestion would work within the Quoted statement of OP.

  6. In good 2 year Paramedic program a person could get EMT-B after 6 months, then EMT-I after 1 year. With that they could get field experience while they complete the Paramedic program. No need to stop your education get experience, then restart education. I really wish I would have gone straight to paramedic. The education would have made things less stressful for me and much better for my patients. It also would have been easier for me as I have had to get my mindset regeared to school as I take my paramedic course after all these years. In a perfect world, EMT-B and EMT-I would only be short term certifications that would expire immediately if you withdraw from paramedic course.
  7. What the hell did you just say? Can't read it. Spellcheck broken? :?
  8. Your ignorance continues to amaze. The device you mention is not considered a needle cric, it is just a variation of a surgical cric, and yes is considered safer. None of our patients have had any complication beyond the scar tissue that occurs. I take it you read about a botched one and decided that all must be bad, or maybe you were the one from that story. If a person has no airway they die. A surgical cric gives them an airway. Actually I am thankful I am in a system that allows use to have a chance to help a person. Our system is progressive, maybe you should get an education and see if you can help yours come out of the stone age.
  9. It is commendable that you want to do this. Check out all your options. Please be careful if you choose EMS not to ruin your knee for life.
  10. Surely not. No one with any kind of life would do that just to get into chat. I just think it's another person causing black marks on our profession. But maybe we can help him to become a professional with some constructive guidance.
  11. Actually standard of care is to start with 14g to allow some airway then while your partner bags, you should get your surgical cric gear ready, then remove 14g and start the minor surgery. The 14g will not buy more than 5 minutes. Also you really should have 2 14g to do proper needle cric, the second with a flutter valve to allow proper air exchange, other wise your just building pressure. We do surgical crics all the time in Texas, care to come let me practice on you  . Please don't use blanket BS unverified statements. Now there are even surgical cric sets designed to limit the cut and bleeding. Anyone that uses NR as basis for argument loses all credibility in my eyes. They are only providers of a joke of a test, nothing more. Yes I have NR so I know of what I speak. Have a nice day.
  12. What? Can we get a little punctuation to know what the hell your talking about?
  13. Doc it seems that search is to complicated, guess another argument for more education prior to certification.

  15. Being a medic is going to be tough on your knees. It is tough enough on healthy knees. As young as you are, if you can afford it I would say forget EMS and as Dust said focus on medical school. I would hate to have you damage yourself to the point you can no longer do EMS and then not be able to go to medical school either. Think about it, get more info here, and definitely discuss it with your parents.
  16. Never called for a firefighter yet. Don't have a week to wait on those darn vollys. We have had to have friends and neighbors help. At this time we are all men crew.

  20. Welcome to the site. Hope you the best in school. This discussion has been done please search and ye shall find.
  21. Here is one that used to boast 95% National registry pass rate. Please notice it is advertised as Fire service. Notice you can start Oct 1 2007 and class ends Dec 14 2007. http://www.teex.com/teex.cfm?pageid=traini...amp;navdiv=ESTI There are many more. Some even advertise in ems magazines.
  22. Sounds like you go to a cool school. Your taking courses that give you some very basic medical education, way back when we got a brief first aid day at the beginning of the year in shop class. I will go with Dust on his advice, get what you can out of your current classes, then go out and get your education while you are still in school mode.
  23. firemedic05 There are lots of 60-90 day paramedic programs out there. Most are attended primarily by fire fighters. After the course they still have clinicals. National Registry does not stop these programs, they just collect money from test takers. They actually tend to have high pass rates because what they focus on is passing the joke called national registry. Texas is a national registry state and yes we have some of those short courses available. Using national registry to defend anything is just too funny. You state you volunteer because otherwise no fire (same argument always used for volly ems). Worst statement yet. If no one volunteered citys/countys would have no choice but to pay for these services and they can afford it regardless of what you think. So sounds as if you are holding back progress. Am I just bowing to Dust, hell no. I have fought with and disagreed with him before. I am not afraid of hurting feelings. I state it like I see it whether its popular or not. As far as OP. I bet this is a ploy to stir up fear in the public that they might lose fire protection. All the little old grannies get scared and call their council members and fire gets more money. Any takers on this bet. I will bet all the lint in my wallet and pockets that is what happens.
  24. I've always said go straight to Paramedic. The experience I got as a basic and an intermediate will honestly be of no real value. If I had gone straight to paramedic I could have gotten my experience with some education to help me. Less stressful for me, better for the patient. If all went paramedic, you could start the new paramedic as a third rider which any new EMS person of any level should be. Then keep them on with an experienced partner. After a while they to are experienced and can help another new paramedic. Why go through that step 3 times, just go straight to paramedic. The above was brought out by myself and others more than once during this topic.
  25. Now thats just cruel.
