  1. HB, so in Canada it is still an unequal service. Really there is no justification for not having 2 paramedics on board all 911 ambulances.

  5. And whats the problem? We are forced to do that all to often. In a perfect world 1 ambulance 1 patient. In the real rural world we're it. At times a crowded ambulance is better than no ambulance. Recently I had a cardiac patient, a premature labor with massive blood loss, and a dog bite victim all in the back. We did meet mutual aid 30 miles north and rearranged patients. But yes I would prefer 1 patient per ambulance. Now we don't wait around till full. But if we get another call while still in the area we respond.
  6. Really the only 3 reasons given for keeping myself as an EMT-I and all the EMT-B's on the truck are: 1. financial - Why should money come before quality medical care? I thought EMS was about the patient. 2. toothaches, etc,- These calls need first to have ALS on them in case they are symptoms of a more serious problem that a BLS provider would miss. If not then the ALS crew should be able to educate the caller as to when to call 911 and deny them transport, but again thats another topic. 3. experience - I wish I had the education prior to getting all the experience I've gotten. It would have been less stressful and would have been better for all the patients I have learned on. So basically all of you that have fought to keep me as an EMT-I and EMT-B's on 911 trucks have done is prove there is no need for us. Patients deserve better, that is the bottom line.

  8. Why not go straight to medic well that was discussed recently another topic. As far as working with a new paramedic, just take them under wing. To avoid problems companys could establish rules that place the more experienced paramedic in charge till experience is gained. I havn't forgotten where I come from cause I still am there. I feel that gives me the freedom to say paramedics only on 911 ambulances.
  9. Since some feel my title did not clearly limit this to I and B, lets open this to everyone. Thanks for all the input.
  10. I worked one non-EMS job where all paperwork was done in black ink except signatures were in blue ink so no doubt about original signature.
  11. Guess "ONLY" is to big a word for a ghetto paramedic.
  12. Penalty for failing to read, I and B only topic. Second I don't buy delaying care for an uneducated person to go decide if an upset stomach is just an upset stomach or an MI, then decide do I transport or call for ALS. We need all paramedics on 911 ambulances period
  13. Honestly gyms are usually wasted money. Find an activity you enjoy that is very active. You'll get in shape and stick with it. The friend idea sometimes works, but sometimes hurts the friendship.
  14. Darn Brent the dispatcher, you have given some darn good comments here. I might have to be a little nicer to you. Again I do almost everything Paramedics do. I do chest decompression, cricothyrotomy, pace, RSI, etc. But I should not be doing it, and the paramedic should not have to do it relying on an EMT-I or B. There should be someone at equal level to help or step in if things go bad which they can and will.
  15. So should we stop having Basics and Intermediates on 911 ambulances? Should all 911 ambulances be staffed with 2 Paramedics? Why or why not? Do you see conflict between Paramedics and lower certifications? Here is the shocker, I say only Paramedics should be on 911 ambulances. I as an EMT-I and for many years before an EMT-B in rural areas often as the highest level of certification feel this way because with the limited education we have, we should not be making medical judgements. Regardless of what the books say we have to diagnose in order to treat, and we have to little education to do it right. I am in a very remote area, with very progressive protocols. Of the more than 50 drugs maintained on our BLS/MICU ambulance I administer all but 5 without calling for medical authorization. In my service and surrounding areas services the paramedics treat me as a fellow paramedic. At my second service I am often put with paramedics that honestly should not be in EMS, because the director knows I know my stuff and trusts that I will intervene on behalf of the patient. I have kept on more than one occasion the idiots from killing somebody. Yes I am blowing my own horn, I am darn good at what I do and as such I have the freeness of speech to say it ain't right. I have self educated myself, reading, studying, picking brains of medics, nurses, and doctors. I have took it on myself to attend any education programs I can get to. No one with the limited education we have should have so much responsibility. It is also unfair to have 1 paramedic stuck making all the calls. Yes 90% of all calls could probably be taken safely POV if we are all honest on here. But when somebody really needs help why should one person be stuck making the call. I am going to go for Paramedic soon, to have more education to back the treatments I have to give already and to be able to handle more in the future. I will also be pushing to have only Paramedics staffing 911 ambulances.

  21. Blog blog blog, My school adventures? title?
  22. Actually if you are involved in billing you would know that they do not pay most 911 ambulance calls. The majority of 911 callers do not meet the guidelines to be eligible for the trip to be paid. The laws basically give you know way to make people pay for the taxi ride, and most do not pay it, at least in my area. The best way to eliminate it is to allow EMS professionals the right to examine a patient, then deny transport if not a real emergency. This would still allow people to call 911 but stop those that just call and use us a a way to get to another town in my case or another part of the city in other cases.
  23. So Rid how do you really feel? Please stop beating around the bush. We do need to get a national healthcare scope. Forget the feelings. It needs to be a minimum that is higher than most systems currently have, but still allow for each service to even allow a broader scope if they so choose. Education needs to improve, but for the protection of rural areas that have no colleges, distance learning, must be allowed. Perhaps we can see something included that allows us to weed out those that are just looking for a free taxi ride. Because if all we are going to be is taxi drivers there is no point of more education, broader scope of practice, national standards, etc. If with education and all the other we are then allowed to stop the abuse, I'm all for it. I have chosen this as my career. I was willing to close the doors on my company and pursue this profession full time. I want to see it progress and be recognized as a healthcare profession, not a taxi, not a branch of Fire or Law, but a specialty branch of HEALTHCARE.
  24. I applaud you for not revealing your friend that is actually a victim in this case as well. I do not know all facts but what I do know besides what has been posted here makes me mad. You do not toy with peoples emotions. You do not take glory that others have died earning. The song link I posted earlier, I feel really describes what happens on line. We get bold, we can do things and claim things we would never be able to do in the real world. But when we play games here there are real people at the other side of the internet and they just might believe you. Actions started online can cause real pain and harm. I would like for SOMEDIC to come back and at least make a public apology. He needs to leave the name of the victim or victims out, but offer heartfelt apology to the one victim I am aware of and also any others he played the game on as well. He needs to man up. He needs to go before GOD and beg forgiveness. SOMEDIC if you read this man up. You will never be able to gain respect, but at least better than slinking away.
