What kind of area is that apartment? So $24000 a year gone. Still got utilities. Also figure you will lose at least $10000 to taxes. Only leaves $16000 to take care of car, gas, food, credit cards, utilities, union dues, etc. What do you pay for rent where you are?

Check cost of living closely. In my part of Texas you can rent nice 3/2 house or apartment for around $500 less some towns slightly more others. Paramedics start at anywhere from $10hr to $18hr depending which town and you don't have to play FF. What will $500 a month rent in San Fran? Speaking from experience take time to count all costs. Hate to see you move, live like a homeless person, and burnout, but have no way out.

By allowing it to appear you quit they avoid paying out unemployment. Thats business 101. You need to go up the chain if your supervisor refuses to talk to you. But be careful as that is a firing offense in some businesses. They are freezing you out, plain and simple. At some point you quit trying then file an unemployment claim and they say no because he quit. Wish you could have handled your last call differently. But sounds like they suck.

Dude since you refused a call they have considered you as having quit. Right or wrong? Don't expect a good reference either. Sounds like a crappy company if they aren't properly staffed enough to have someone take over after your last call at quiting time.

Please do a search you will find more info including more info that was put in short form here. Yes when I was a basic I thought I knew it all. If you advance your education you will soon see how little you knew and how little you actually do. The more education will also scare you, because it should click that when you reach Paramedic that you have tons of skills and drugs but any mistake you make can kill someone. Enjoy your time of being the greatest EMT Basic ever then come down to earth and lets work together. PS pay in west Texas starts anywhere from $9 to $13 an hour to start depending on the service. Here there is a shortage and no schools to flood the market. Cost of living is cheap to. Hope that helps.

Again I stand by the comment that got me promoted to such a wonderful title that the problem here is you are volunteer. You may not think it hurts the profession but many paid services in those areas are able to keep pay low because of whackers. I applaud the move for education but you should make campus EMS a paid job in order to help the profession you claim to love.
