  2. In Mexico on election days no alcohol is sold. They see the problems that can come up. Usually election days in Mexico are busy here because all the idiots that normally go there to get drunk stay home and get drunk.
  3. Alright color is left to each service. So to set us a different from LE/FF the idea of using a nice scrub top like has been posted with ems pants could really be a way to go. Says healthcare provider, but is rugged enough for the field. Even in Mexico healthcare providers seem to wear scrubs or lab coats, so my patients would see scrub top and right away know I'm healthcare not a cop taking them into custody.
  4. Badges suck. Especially those cheap looking ones so many services choose. We are healthcare professionals, badges serve no purpose. We need to be distinct from cops and FF.
  5. They are full of it. You only get easier questions if you miss a question. Not a good strategy for passing. Better to try and answer correctly. You may want to spend some money on a good study guide. Hope you the best.
  6. I used to do good on ebay then they got to lax and had lots of scum playing on there. Seems like it has been getting better again. Hardest thing is to find products that will sell for enough to cover all costs including product cost, listing fees, paypal fees, final sell fee, etc. $80K is like minimum wage in some areas. Consider housing costs. $80,000 home my area would be around $1,000,000 in San Fran. I have met many people that actually sold their homes in Cali or NY and moved to our area bought or built nicer homes and still had money left over to retire on.

  8. Don't think it would work to say noone can be on duty more than X number of hours. Maybe rules that state after X number of hours on duty with no sleep you must take X number of hours off before getting back on the ambulance. Like I mentioned previously, my jobs allow plenty of rest normally, and I am sure most other rural areas are similiar. At my primary service all of us got together and we now will shut our service down for 8 hours so we can sleep if we have gotten slammed. Our city don't like it but they are the ones that choose not to fund a second ambulance crew.
  9. Hey I resemble that remark, except no tobacco and I wear a cowboy hat and not that fat and not called bubba(usually called much worse like pinche gringo, etc). Actually I have no problem with a hat but it needs to be neat clean and a company hat not a joes crab shack cap. We spend a lot of time in the sun here, lots of patients wait outside in a lawn chair, so need to shade the eyes to even see to check our patients. I do think having a little bit of reflective is a good idea, but keep the large amounts on the vests. The star of life I can live with or w/o but the public im my area does associate it with the ambulance so might be good to have it on the scrubs. The scrubs top mixed with EMS pants actually could look good and provide the durable knees. Don't work that many wrecks but down on a knee checking almost every patient. A jump suit or extrication suit for wrecks and bad weather, only takes a second to put on. Also would have your wind breaker or coat over the thin scrub top in cool weather.
  10. I work 3 services. 2 of them are on 24 hour shifts by however many you want to do. The 3rd is on 12 hour shifts but can do up to 5 back to back 12's or 60 hours in a row. Keep in mind these are small town where it is rare that you are actually in the ambulance most of each shift. Usually get plenty of sleep and eat time. If you are somewhere that requires you to be in the ambulance all the shift or is a very busy service I really wish they would limit to 1 12 hour shift with at least 8 hours off the truck before you could get back on, for safety and medic health.
  11. Do you think we should have certain colors for each level or just leave it to each service?

  13. Gasp, choke, he agrees with me. And I agree with him that for a start in small towns a combo may be the way to go.
  14. Darn it all I wonder if they'll give me a refund? :?:
  15. You mean I can't make millions just working a couple of hours a week?

  17. Rid those scrubs could be a start. For visibility maybe get some reflective stripes. Still might need more reinforcement in the knees. Then keep the flight suit available for bad weather, etc. I think you and some others mentioned wearing EMS pants with a polo shirt, the problem with that is that is actually close to the police uniform in many small citys I have been to. When we think of healthcare clothing you either picture people in scrubs or lab coats. Now maybe EMS pants with a higher quality scrub shirt like those Rid posted would set us apart.

  19. In my opinion, volly fire is way different than volly EMS. For example in my community fire may roll out 2 times a month while ambulance rolls 2 times a day. With the number of calls and time required for each transport people understand need for paid EMS. How can you convince the public they need a full time crew, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day for fire? To properly staff would require many more people than are required to staff 1 ambulance. The money would be better spent to fund a second ambulance. Maybe offer fire reimbursement for each response. As far as taxes being offset by better insurance rates maybe but still a waste of funds.

  21. Do something you love, your more likely to stick with it. A hobby can sometimes turn into a money maker. If you love EMS maybe become a part time sales rep for some of the supply companys.
