  7. You can have 3 trys if I can hit you 3 times. If you can't get it in 2 probably never going to get it. Call someone better than you to get my blood.

  12. Glad to help clear it up. But to get back on track with ruffs OP definitly questionable behavior, then they still were unable to use the organs, that really means they may have been responsible for the deaths of many more.
  13. Really is, think about it usually no warranty on used car parts or used human parts.
  14. It's kinda like going to the wrecking yard to keep your car going. Used parts work just fine.
  15. We do 2, unless life threatening then we can keep trying or move to jugular or IO.
  16. That reminds me of when I got injured many years ago. Male nurse comes in and trys to get blood and missed my veins which at the time were so big a blind man with no feeling in his hands could of gotten them. He starts getting ready to go again and I told him I would hit him every time he missed, he laughed, I didn't. He left the room and an ICU nurse came in and I had my least painful blood draw ever. The ICU nurse asked if I really told the other idiot I got to hit them for each miss, I said yes and she started laughing. Maybe I did not handle it right but I am nobodys darn pin cushion.
  17. Ouch. Screw the rules if I know my veins are difficult to get, they do it my way or my money and my veins go elsewhere.
  18. Hey next time just give us a link to go read and maybe a brief idea of the article. As far as drinking I was raised in an area where many of us kids were allowed to drink from a young age. Alcohol was no mystery, we did not sneak around and kill ourselves or others. Now laws are such that parents can even be in trouble for allowing kids to drink. If you make it taboo, it really makes kids curious and thats where the problem builds from. No adult supervision and only thing known about it comes from movies, music and idiot friends that glorify getting stupidly drunk.
  19. Don't know where you got the raise taxes 25%. It doesn't take alot of funds to get things moving towards professional. First you start billing for all calls transport or not, if you already bill as a volly service increase it to cover labor costs (total labor costs per year divided by avg number of runs per year and get a ball park amount of how much to raise it for labor), hire a professional billing/collection firm, etc. Yes the citizens will still have to provide funds to keep it going but it may be the same amount already received or just slightly more. I know a number of communitys that bill about $5 extra on the water bill each month that goes into the EMS fund. That amount coupled with collections from patients will support a paid department. Unless your taxes are basically 0% you will not need a 25% increase. You also made a statement about vollys that walked and a council that sugar coated the risks, lawyers will have a field day with that first casualty as result of delayed response. In fire that may take a while in rural areas. With EMS same would happen just a whole lot quicker because we all know people are just dieing to ride in our ambulances. Then after short wait paid EMS dept.
  20. So are there any states that have made EMS an essential service?
  21. I would not work for minimum wage as an EMT-B or Paramedic. Working minimum wage hurts our efforts to be viewed as professionals in my opinion as much or more than volly's. I work with 3 different services, heres the starting pay for each level starting with the lowest paying and ending with the highest paying service per hour. EMT-B $9.00 , $11.00 , $14.00 EMT-I $9.50 , $13.00 , $16.00 EMT-P $10.00 , $15.00 , $18.00 Yes I can make more money still in other careers, but this covers my expenses and supports my family. Cost of living is cheaper here than in many parts of USA as well.
  22. The 24 hour rule was made in many places because Bubba would go on a 3 day drunk and show up after 8 hours of not drinking in no shape to work. Maybe alcohol out of his system but he was not mentally or physically fit to work even at the drive in food place much less on the ambulance. 24 hours in some cases isn't enough. Yes the 1 drink would be gone and not affect on most but like it is always said it only takes one person saying I stopped drinking 8 hours ago while stumbling to ruin it for everyone.
  23. Wish we could make people understand, but when people get away with abusing the system how do you expect them to think of us as anything more than taxi ummm ambulance drivers. See my rants on the subject if you don't already know my feelings on denying transport to the stubbed toes.
  24. You betcha, I buy everything he, Paul Harvey, ands Rush Limbaugh recommend. And I believe everything dispatch tells me.
  25. Make sure it is a reputable company or you will damage your own rep.
