Only reason they lost was the driver failed to follow policy. The city should make the driver pay it rather than the tax payers. This could happen at any service. CYA by following policies and knowing the policies so you can follow them.

So your saying when I get a bad patient my turn of my head while adjusting my shades and saying I will keep them alive is bad medicine? I mean I studied and studied in order to perfect my Horatio moves. I just knew it made patients feel more comfortable with me as a professional. Doc glad to see you been a while. So is it common where you are to just hit the point of to much strip naked and walk out of the ER naked never to return? I mean I understand the feeling that enough is enough and I do not want to do this no more but................ For example recently I had person pinned in upside down car. I crawled in laid in glass with battery acid dripping nearby and worked to keep airway open for more than 20 minutes while fire extricated. But as I was doing it I realized I have had and seen enough. But I did not strip, crawl out, and walk down the highway naked. I finished the call and yes I kept patient alive and patient lived to discharge but being a "hero" just is not enough. I have not left EMS yet but notified the boss that I am considering leaving. I want to go back and run a couple shifts with my old service and see if actually practicing medicine as we had to helps me rekindle my desire to do this job. If that does not work then I may walk away. Probably not but I might. I can still do the job and yes it is just a job not a "calling". Sorry for the off track rant. Rant off.

Pretty much nothing out there except shows that glorify fire and show little true EMS that and comedies. There used to be a show on I think discovery health seems like it was called Paramedics, yeah that's it. http://www.tv.com/paramedics/show/64088/summary.html And don't forget this very fire slanted history of ems that does seem to leave out some details. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqD_w4gFa0E

If cops don't allow you to get to the patient have officer sign refusal. Then document the heck out of it.

Horse Crap!!!!!!!!!!!!! She should not have been fired. She is the scape goat for an unprepared system. Start at the top not the bottom.

Been there done that got the t-shirt. Best thing is not confront the parents or care givers. If they claim the obvious abuse is because of something else act as if you agree. If you argue they grab the child and leave before law enforcement arrives and child suffers. Learn to be a good actor. Get the child and get to hospital. Enforce your no rider policy and while en route to hospital notify police and hospital. What hurts the most is when a child has been abused to the worst extent and no death is not the worst extent, then parents attend a short parenting class and get the child back. Then you get called and see the same things again.

No urgent health care clinics in my area. Medicaid or Medicare actually had a form that if the ambulance crew determined that a patients "emergency" did not meet criteria for reimbursement that actually became a financial contract so you could pursue collections. I know many services would even request a deposit along with a signature if patient still wanted ambulance transport. You know the funny part is that I actually saw more poor people attempt to make payments even if only $5 month than those with good jobs but no insurance or where insurance, medicaid, medicare denied payment. Often I really think the poor only have their good name and they will do anything in their power to keep it.

Now come on you will watch because it has eye candy? I am so ashamed of you. But seriously is it worse than trauma? I never even watched an episode of trauma because the commercials were so bad.
-
Biggest plus to staffing with under educated emt's is they work cheap.
-
I'm debating whether I have another hour to waste giving it one more chance.

So how many watched? How realistic it was. REALLY I WOULD NEVER JOKE ABOUT IT. I mean daily I see Dr's, RN's, and Paramedics perform that one last life saving procedure then just lose it and rip all clothes off and walk out of the ER naked. I saw some points that could be discussed pregnant woman freaking out and Dr used doppler on her wrist and calmed her saying hear the babies heartbeat. So we learn lying to calm patients is acceptable. Then when they were getting patient off helicopter when asked for lung/heart/abd sounds medic said can't hear them in the helicopter. So we learned it is ok not to do a proper assessment prior to taking patient to ambulance. AND.......................................................................

For 911's you respond no matter what. For non emergent transfers pay up front or walk.

Not sure about that one but even cnn mentioned a couple of months back.

Only a third? Wish we had 2 thirds pay.

I check dates every shift. We are required to write the dates on the check sheet each Monday so there is written proof dates were checked. Then the last day of the month we have to write the dates and replace items expiring. I was once accused of having expired ET tubes but turned out they were looking at the manufacture date not the expiration date.

In a slow system its no big deal. In a busy system 12 may be to many.

Did I say every poster was being a jerk? Also perhaps the only posts are because jerks like attacked this post attacked the others. Why can't we give the benefit of the doubt and help rather than attacking and resorting to immature name calling?

Wow there have really gotten to be a lot of jerks on here. Dart is asking some questions, why not answer those asked and then politely give him some ideas to help his chances of success. With the responses given here it is no wonder this site is quickly losing its reputation as a quality place to hang out and discuss EMS and real life. Dart I apologize for the asinine comments you have received and I hope you the best in your quest. I am sorry I have no knowledge of flight so have no way to help.
