Actually I will disagree at least on the Federal and Texas level. Maybe your state has something like that. Here I can work for and volunteer at the same agency. If I have misread the labor laws please correct me.

Actually as long as it is strictly voluntary it is not a problem. If it is like military volunteering where you are told you are volunteering then you open a can of worms. Now there may be some states that have different laws but in Texas you can have a combination service where some are paid and others are volunteer.

Sounds like Amarillo is another place not to go because they will either be fire based or AMR.

The state suspended it a couple months ago after Grogan admitted to inappropriately touching a female patient on an ambulance run. Grogan and the City of Eunice appealed that suspension saying the touching was consensual, so he didn't deserve to have his license yanked for a whole year. His hearing for that appeal was supposed to be Friday, but it's been delayed. No word on when it might be rescheduled.

Actually if you are in Texas as your profile say's volunteers have a duty to act. Why? To have an ambulance registered you have to have a schedule showing it is staffed. So if you are scheduled that day you have a duty to act. Now off duty, not on schedule paid or volly it is up to you if you will respond. If the volly service you respond with does not have a schedule showing proper staffing you need to self report them before the state catches them as each member is responsible to report known rules violations. So if the state finds them guilty they will also find you guilty.

Actually that is exactly what they are attempting. If you read the responses on the local papers the FF's are bashing Dr Tober and trying to convince the public that Dr Tober is endangering the public that we as medical Professionals understand he is trying to protect.

We everyday accept that we are at risk of catching communicable disease. If we started refusing any and all calls that put us at even a slight risk of sickness, harm or death we would not ever respond. I agree health care providers should be first on list to get it but to refuse patient care because of slight delay is BS. I would also bet that she is also someone that does not use her mask, gowns, gloves when she contacts patients that may be contagious. I would also bet she wears those contaminated clothes home to share with her family. So give me a break defending her. A leader that makes a threat like she did deserves punishment, and IMHO that equals taking certification away. Had she used any brains she could have stirred the people up with comments like we will be there but we fear that in the early stages we may not know we are sick thus placing the patients we cherish and live to serve in grave danger. Now the citizens would be concerned for themselves and these wonderful taxi umm EMT's. So now not only will you get your shots first you can go beg more money from the community.

Key to surviving in any medical field is to quickly review each case. Learn form any mistakes you spot. Then let it go and move forward. Everyone has had patients that could have faired a little better or had a slightly better chance of survival had they done everything perfect, yet none of them are perfect. But you grow as a provider when you learn and improve rather than dwelling and withdrawing.
