Atropine they should pull over any unit including fellow officers that are driving unsafe. Of course if it was like this case there was no justification to pull them over, so they shouldn't.

Your BLS experience will be gained after first semester when you are certified as a basic. Then you do ride outs till you complete the Paramedic degree. As a third rider you will gain much more experience than you will as a driver that most basics seem to end up being.

If he takes a degree program he will get his basic first semester. Then immediately will continue to completion of Paramedic in about 2 years. There is no reason to stop and waste time at basic level.

Just like the doctors, nurses, and all professions books of easy reader levels are available. When used right in combination nothing wrong with using them to make sure you get the point. "Photography" and he always got signed statements that they were 18.

No you can see blood before you actually see the big changes of compensated and non compensated shock. Also if you know anatomy you examine key areas with the FAST method. And no Vent if we suspect they need higher level they get higher level. But it is surprising how often a patient with no real s/s's (and w/o US no reason to consider higher level) turns out to have a bleed that is small initially but will get bigger soon. The US helps find those leaks before they become gushers so the bandaid hospital is no the one chosen. Also sometimes you can give the hospital heads up so they can have OR ready to go. I am not advocating giving this or any other tool or skill to the uneducated. But with proper education this can be an important tool in frontier medicine.

In my neck of the woods there is no trauma hospital closer than a 1 hour flight. A FAST exam will help determine if we let bandaid ER deal with patient and ship or if we meet a plane or helicopter to take them. It is not hard to learn basic use of US. We are not doing extensive exams. If we wait till shock signs present delay to higher level can and will occur. For frontier medicine a definite plus. In the city where choice of hospital only changes transport 5-15 minutes MOI could justify just going to trauma hospital, so not a real need for spending the money.

What 5-6 seconds on a no passing zone is now graounds to arrest someone? I think this trooper had something against the EMT and decided now was time to do something about it.

Umm when did I say I believed in fire based EMS? In fact I oppose fire based EMS even more than I oppose have people giving EMS away for free. And yes no service is immune during these bad economic times. But again if you already have all the equipment and the building etc for the vollys it really doesn't take much more to pay the salary's of a Paramedic crew.
