  1. Hate to help Crotch win a fight but: http://www.slate.com/id/1063/
  2. As a student I was shocked that so many fail to realize that even though supposedly stable at the time that if left in this condition will rapidly become unstable. Because of beig stable you have the option of using Cardizem rather then adenisone or shocking to reset. Stay ahead of you patients and avoid having to work so hard. Much easier to treat while "stable" than after they go south.
  3. EKG
  4. There is so much more to EMS than load and go. Take time and do a proper exam it does not actually delay transport plus your exam could lead to activating proper staff so your few second extra on scene actually saved your patient perhaps hours in the ER.
  5. First problem is that comes from firehouse not a medical power house there . And actual dosages are in my previous post based on apple to apple treatments and the amounts you posted were wrong or were for apples to oranges treatments.
  6. That his service either doesn't have many ambulances contrary to his claim or he is unaware of how many vials it takes to add up to 300mg of morphine. Maybe he will reconsider because if you have morphine on the ambulance you need at minimum 2 vials. A lot of ambulances brings to my mind more than 20 ambulances. So there should be at minimum levels per ambulance a total of 400mg of morphine if they are all together. Also just showing it's not as much as some claim. So really 300mg is not a big deal.
  7. Is patient currently seizing, breathing? What is skin color especially around lips, eyes, fingernail beds? What is skin temp? How many layers of clothes and blankets is patient wrapped in? Does child have a fever?
  8. Pedi dose is 20mg/kg over 5- 10 minutes Adult dose is 500-1000mg over 5-10 minutes. You must have misread or your books wrong.
  9. W/o watching or reading in short Paramedics should decide who gos to the hospital by ambulance. We are not taxis.
  10. She assualted the officer and was placed on the ground.
  11. I would ask for a cash refund.
  12. We order 30 vials of 10mg Morphine at a time. They are all placed in the ambulance lock box. So at times with the last of previous order plus new order we have well over 300mg on 1 ambulance. We never get below 50mg on an ambulance.

  14. Yes I know but wasn't it nice to discuss something medical rather than bashing everyone for a change. I have grown tired of the banter and want to see some educational posts again like there once were here. Heck the site so many here make fun of has been more educational of late.
  15. Actually there is very little scientific proof of benefit for back boards etc. But there is proof backboarding when not required does more harm than good.
  16. Here is the start of a more productive discussion of a jump bag. http://www.emtcity.com/index.php?showtopic=14409&hl=
  17. Run we've been invaded by zombies. Welcome. Thanks for the input. As you read if you read all comments the amounts and types of drugs were not wise choices for a disaster. I agree a jump bag for the unthinkable is critical. My family had to evacuate with almost no warning last year. Thankfully we were able to take our travel trailer so we did not have to live out of our jump bags. But if you look at the other topic about jump bags you will see I am ready.
  18. No Crotch those that report did so not because of lack of English as many comprehend English better than you. They report because the person is in the country illegally. How are we to say that the illegal you transport is not on a terroristic mission, now you just helped them harm innocent people. Nice try on bring out bogus stereotype though. Oh and patients privates yes I have peaked many times and at times have had something peaking back called a baby. In the course of our job we see every inch of many patients, that is if you are doing a proper medical exam. And never drove drunk, never stole, never cheated on taxes, never called in sick when I wasn't. I have not seen a glass ambulance big enough to climb into to try throwing a stone inside of it.
  19. Oh and don't forget a bag of beans. Not much weight and is healthy. Feeds you for days.
  20. I am glad everyone so far says they would treat them regardless of whether or not they would report them. I deal with this frequently. If a person needs medical care and transport they get it. If they do not need transport we deny them. If after getting to hosptal and see them go out the door w/o being seen by a doctor you bet law enforcement gets involved. If you abuse my ambulance to get past the check points you deserve to go to jail as while we're out on your fake call my family my even have a real emergency and no one is there to help. Yes many illegals with real medical problems use the ambulance. Surprisingly many after getting the needed care return home.
  21. Kit needs to include your prescription meds and some over the counter meds. Depending on disaster as we saw in Katrina people could be alone for some time don't want to be w/o. I have an external frame backpack with a few pairs of socks and underwear and a change of cothes. I have meds that I rotate frequently. I do have first aid equipment including some pain meds but not like the zombie killer. I have a small tarp. I keep several ziplock freezer bags. Some large trash bags. My sleeping bag. I keep some food and water as well as a water straw filter. With my kit I can provide basic shelter and food and medical care for my family. I also have knives and a pistol. If we have to survive in the desert surrounding where we live I can survive off the land until help arrives. It is easily carried. I can not recall all thats in it but rest assured it is always handy if we have to rush out in the night.
  22. We are not in the transportation business we are in the Medical Profession. We are Pre-Hospital Medical Professionals and we need to start practicing medicine rather than our taxi driving skills. Transportation is just a part of our job not the job. If that is what you think our job is might be time for a job change.
  23. Well we do not go by the you call we haul crap. If the call and after an exam they can safely go by other means we deny them. While patient needs definitive care we can push numerous drugs so they have a better long term outcome. The more heart saved the better. If all you do is load and go care is delayed that could save cardiac muscle.
  24. These seem less complicared than the other one I asked about. Help me out people. Thanks.
  25. Wish my service would have talked to someone before wasting our money on these. Looks based on comments to be a complicarted piece of junk. Hopefully I can get an RT to sit down and help me learn so it will be used. I mean I guess it would still be better than bagging for a long transport if used correctly right?
