  1. French PM Francois Fillon wants anti-burqa measures French PM Francois Fillon wants anti-burqa measures From: AFP January 13, 2010 12:30AM Increase Text SizeDecrease Text SizePrintEmail Share Add to DiggAdd to del.icio.usAdd to FacebookAdd to KwoffAdd to MyspaceAdd to NewsvineWhat are these?FRENCH Prime Minister Francois Fillon has told MPs he's in favour of banning the full Islamic veil through a raft of legal and parliamentary measures. Mr Fillon has told a meeting of deputies from his governing right-wing UMP party that parliament should adopt a resolution outlining France's rejection of the burqa and that several "legislative texts and regulations'' should follow. Her waded into a heated debate over whether to ban Muslim women from wearing the full veil, known as the niqab or burqa, just weeks before a parliamentary panel was due to release a report on the issue. Many politicians from the left and right have cautioned that a draconian law banning the head-to-toe veil would be difficult to enforce and probably face a challenge in the European rights court. Home to Europe's biggest Muslim minority, France set up the special panel six months ago to consider whether a law should be enacted to ban the burqa. French President Nicolas Sarkozy has said that the burqa is not welcome in France but has not stated publicly whether legislation should be enacted. France's political establishment is divided on whether to ban the burqa, with the opposition Socialists saying that they opposed a law even though they believed Muslim women should be discouraged from wearing the full veil. A parliamentary resolution would provide the governing majority with political cover, by making a national statement, but there could also be amendments introduced to amend security laws, according to deputies.

  3. British nude hiker threatened with life behind bars British nude hiker threatened with life behind bars From: NewsCore January 13, 2010 11:48PM Increase Text SizeDecrease Text SizePrintEmail Share Add to DiggAdd to del.icio.usAdd to FacebookAdd to KwoffAdd to MyspaceAdd to NewsvineWhat are these?BRITISH naked hiker Stephen Gough was warned he could spend the rest of his life in jail unless he puts on some clothes. Mr Gough, 50, was found guilty of breaching the peace after being arrested seconds after leaving Perth Prison in Scotland naked last month, having just finished a 12 month sentence for the same offense. The former Royal Marine, who is famed for his naked hikes, has spent most of the past seven years behind bars for repeatedly appearing nude in public. Mr Gough, who conducted his defense naked at Perth court Tuesday, turned down an offer to walk free if he got dressed. Remanding him in custody, judge Lindsay Foulis warned: "When the day comes for you to be released, you will be apprehended and the same process gone through again.” Mr Gough from Hampshire, South England, said he accepted he could potentially remain in jail forever. 4. After watching this video, this appears to be a dangerous game to play. How many patients call with minor ailments that on examination have something more major happening. Yes we have our fair share of time wasters, however, to try & diagnose them over the phone can be a recipie for disaster. Would it not make more sense to attend to these people, properly assess them & have protocols in place to deny transport at that point & refer them to their own Doctor? People would soon get the message then. It also says to them that we are there to take you when the situation dictates. In some cases EMS is the only real medical assistance that these people will see, rightly or wrongly, & to deny them this is not right.
  5. It was a comment in general not directed at you herbie, sorry if there was any confusion
  6. I yet I am criticized by some sections for being anti fire. CRY ME A RIVER. Its not ideal for the FF's cause the BRT (Big Red Truck) isnt the first thing people see. What a laugh. This is a profession who turns up, causes more damage with water than the main fire will ever cause...... but even if the fire decimates the building, they will still claim it as a sucess, cause they got the wet stuff on the hot stuff. So why is this cheif bitching to the paper? He should be whining & moaning to the bigger monkeys on the hose monkey tree. Most firefighters have a hero mentality that they need to feed. They just wanna play wioth their hoses so people can see them & tell them how fantastic they are. I love this comment. I need say no more
  7. Herbie, I respect your opinions & most of the time I think you are right. We did have the same situation here with free/purchase needles, but now all get them free. What concerns me is the attitude that all junkies (herioin/narcotic users) are street scum that dont deserve the same treatment as everybody else. There are just as many people addicted to narcotics that live in the suburbs. Lets not forget them. There is another solution that I alluded to earlier. Legalise it. This does a number of things & will actually over a relativley short period reduce the number of addicts. Legalisation will reduce crime, make the drug more available & able to be taxed. Lets supply it to registered users. Supply them with a safe place to inject. but then all the mystery of performing an illegal act will be gone. Criminality will be gone & if you go one step further & legalise cocaine as well, then all the money spent on detection, all those billions, could be redirected into providing a first rate FREE ems system to all US citizens!!!!!
  8. Legalise it, make it easier to access & control it. Take the criminality away. Provide injecting rooms & appropriate counselling. Whats the problem, with a damn brochure?
  9. That one is only a small one, you should see the spiders!!!!!!!

Why? They should prove they deserve it. There is an assumption (wrongly) that fire & rescue go together. Fire departments were formed to fight fires. Let the do that. If that means they have to close cause there are not enough fires TOUGH! Then that needs to be addressed through a controling body. I know of professional units that are the same, because rescue is not their primary function. I also know of volly rescue units that are dedicated & highly professional in all that they do. Maybe we could split this thread into another to debate this point. You run into the same problem with paid as well. It is called apathy. If people have a true & genuine interest, then they will maintain their skills. I am suggesting however more than just a volly or paid option, regardless of EMS or fire. Pay a retainer, say $100 per month & a set amount per call for up to say 4 hours, then per hour after that. Then they are semi professional & you can dictate what skills & qualifications they must maintain. Fire will always try to take allotted funds. EMS will always be the poor cousin. Why? Who do you see on the TV when there is a really bad car wreck on a freeway? Fire, because they are there for an extended period. EMS in most cases will be off scene before any media arrive. There needs to be a balance & funding should be allotted to each area seperatly depending on how much they do. Sorry fire, if you pale into insignificance, oh well. Maybe this is Virgil.......
  11. I am sure he will get new sponsors, I mean surley condom manufacturers would see an opening there for starters. Then there is the whole pay by the hour motel room industry...........
  12. Priceless considering his declaration in 1972..........
  13. I wish you would get it right. Occasionally I surface to the gutter, but most of the time i live in the sewer.......
  14. Well said Dwayne. Dust, AK you may be able to help out here, I seem to recall something regarding the relationship to ICP & BP was not always a direct link & that even through a CVA the ICP could still be maintained, to a point, even if some fluid therapy was invoked. We need to remember here there is a huge difference between a haemhorragic & ischaemic CVA (althought this terminology is changing also. the medical fraternity is now saying it is not an 'accident' but an incident). With a haemhorragic CVA there is little hope of control & the patient has a very high mortality rate regardless of actions taken. Ischaemic CVA patients still have the ability to cope well & man can be suffering from dehydration if they have been 'on the floor' for any extended period. Just a thought.....
  15. Lets face it, 11 holes isnt a golf course, but i am sure he got a hole in 1 occasionally. Only problem was he got caught.

  18. All Kangaroo's look good in the cross hairs....... But, they got nothing on the drop bears
  19. The salary of the Cheif monkey on the tree is not relevant. What is relevant if you want to look at fire based EMS v Stand alone EMS is to look at what is available & funding levels that are provided, & in the case of Fire based EMS, what percentage of their total income is derived from EMS based work. You will find that EMS props up fire but they will always look to take the limelight & glory so everyone thinks they are the heros. Fortunatley we all know better.

    FireFighters

Is that like the dont eat yellow snow warning??????? I dont have hose envy. I dont need it. Most firemen I know have 2 penises, cause no one could be that stupid playing with just 1. Its interesting you say that. If i look at the history of rescue services in the state where I live, & I am talking road, vertical rescue etc, it was never started by Fire. It was started by the Ambulance Service. The Police also joined in & Fire, trying to justify their existance took it over. Rescue is medical, not mechanical. You need the medical knowledge to make a truly informed decision on rescue. If we were being true to what we are saying, then we should have seperate (Paid) Police, who only look after Law Enforcement, Ambulance services whos core business is pre hospital medicine, Seperate & fully funded rescue, whose core role is to provide rescue services & Fire, who should stick with their core role of fighting fires & stay away from others core business. I am sure if you were to do this as a study, most fire would close & become retained or volly. As is should be. this then means that funds can be redirected to the appropriate resources as requires without the hero seekers taking the lions share.
  21. They got the acronym wrong. Trust the media. People Eat Tasty Animals. Can they at least try to get it right!!!!!!!
  22. I havent seen a pager for years. It is old, outdated technology. We dont use texts for main calls, however supervisers are allerted to major incidents via text. Lets use the latest technology & move forward with it.
