Well said Dust. Thy need to be made an exaple of, stupidity cannot be countered, this was negligent stupidity. Lets get them out of EMS, revoke their licences as well. If they havent got enough brains to operate a vehicle in the safety of themselves & the general community, why the hell should they be trusted to assist the sick & infirmed???????????

Better to wait for ambulance, parents warned A LEADING trauma expert is urging parents to wait for paramedics to take critically injured children to hospital, following the death of a three-year-old boy from a 15m fall in Sydney's south. The youngster was playing in a bedroom on the third floor of an apartment block in Warialda St, Kogarah when he fell from a window at about 7pm (AEDT) yesterday. His family rushed him to St George Hospital, where he later died. Professor Danny Cass, head of trauma at The Children's Hospital at Westmead, said about 20 children were being admitted to the hospital every year for similar falls. Most of these were during spring and summer months. There have been at least three deaths in the past few years and other children falling out of windows have suffered serious head injuries, fractures and damage to internal organs such as the liver and spleen, Prof Cass said. "We've been worried about this for 10 years now," he said. High-density living and poor building design were contributing factors, he said. "We feel this is an increasing problem with the urbanisation of our living conditions," he said. "It's been a big oversight by the Government and the whole community to really not understand the potential risk here. "There's been a serious lapse of forward planning." Rather than wait for the Government to pass legislation for better building design, Prof Cass urged parents to ensure windows accessible to children could not be opened by more than 10cm. A visit to a hardware store, he said, could enable parents to alter windows themselves at a cost of $10. "So for the vertical ones, that's a Black and Decker and two drills and coach screws, and for the aluminium ones, a rod that just sits in the gutter or two little aluminium screws that screw down," he said. If a child does fall from a window, Prof Cass urged parents to phone 000 and have a paramedic transport the child to hospital. "We've had increasing numbers of occasions where parents have grabbed the child and taken them to the nearest hospital, which may not have children's facilities," he said. "This then necessitates a complex transfer to the children's hospital." NSW Ambulance paramedic Penelope Little said it was important for parents to realise that ambulance staff could treat patient immediately upon arrival. "Certainly what we recommend is for the paramedics to arrive because that treatment can be done straight away," she said. "You should remain on the phone to 000 so the ambulance operator can give you advice. "They can remain with you on the telephone and tell you what to do." This relates to This story

There have been a few threads about texting while driving, but how about this Driver with two mobiles was steering with his knees Driver with two mobiles was steering with his knees: policeMEX COOPER October 19, 2009 - 7:51AM A veteran policeman has branded a man caught steering his car with his knees while holding a mobile phone in each hand as one of the worst careless drivers he has ever seen. Acting Sergeant Rob Atkinson was in an unmarked police car when he noticed a city-bound Honda swerving in the far-left lane of the Eastlink tunnel about 3.15pm on Saturday. As he pulled up beside the 30-year-old Fitzroy man, Acting Sergeant Atkinson was stunned to see he was driving with one finger on the steering wheel as he held a phone in each hand. Once out of the tunnel, the driver was pulled over and told police he had been transferring information from one phone to the other while gripping the wheel with his finger. Acting Sergeant Atkinson said in ten years on the force the incident had been one of the worst of careless driving he had witnessed. The man was fined just over $500 and was penalised six demerit points. "I reinforced the danger of this type of driving, especially within the tunnel and issued the man with two penalty notices," Acting Sergeant Atkinson said.

But are you a nudist happi???????

So? everyone can contribute & has the opportunity to here Firstly I would suggest you research volunteers & you will see my thoughts there, search is your friend. I also work rural EMS, but am paid & know what it is like to be quiet. No, you have missed the point, Fire has his medical history on his chest, he is unconscious & alone. Do I take his tattoo as gospel for his medical history? How about a NFR tattoo?? is that a valid tattoo, what happens when a person changes meds, do they get a line through it & another added to the bottom?how about when someone has a temporary change of meds?????????? Oh sorry, you didnt think of those did you. I dont really care if you take offence or not, that is your choice. How 'neat' a tattoo is does not have any bearing on the fact that we have a system in place. It is well know & we now have a new generation of alert braclet begining to appear here in aussie, like the bands on kids arms that are popular. At least ithat is not indelible & can be changed as the patients condition requires.

Is that why she thought yr 'nose' was a bit short mate?

Beach Babes? In Canada? They are his wet dreams

The Turnip always does it (to himself)

What is the point? I do not look at a persons body art looking for medical alerts. If it is not quickly identifiable, easily seen within the first 20 seconds, it will get missed. While the tattoo in the pic is a good size (proportionally to the arm it is on. This would be USELESS in winter when that part of the anatomy is well covered. So where to put the tattoo. Lets see, will we be like Charles Manson & use our forheads for medical alerts????? Grow up. whats wrong with what we already have?

A man moves into a nudist colony. He receives a letter from his grandmother asking him to send her a current photo of himself in his new location. Too embarrassed to let her know that he lives in a nudist colony, he cuts a photo in half and mails it. The next day he discovers that he had accidentally sent the bottom half of the photo. He's really worried but then remembers how bad his grandmother's eyesight is, and hopes she won't notice. A few weeks later, he receives a letter from his Grandmother. It says: "Thank you for the picture. Change your hairstyle... it makes your nose look too short." Love, Grandma

Remote Controlled doors are not the issue. The issue is these guys were just too excited to get a job. Common sense says that you should look at what is happening around you, If they cant see the sidewalk, then what else do they miss on the road? Problem is that you can teach common sense. No matter what you do, they will find a way to get themselves into a position of stupidity (they are firemen after all). The only way to ensure this doesnt happen is proper screening prior to employment, for EMS & Fire. Yes employment, take the whacker out of it & that will resolve part of the problem.

Can Fire Paramedics be good Paramedics?
aussiephil replied to spenac's topic in General EMS Discussion
Ruff, I do respect you mate but this is BS. Why do we insist on allowing Fire to try & control us? Its cause they havent got enough of their core business to keep them occupied. Now you have said a couple of interesting things here. The three statments you have made do not indicate you favour dual roles such as fire paramedic. We should have all services seperate. Dont allow fire to administer, run or have anything to do with EMS & watch them fall over with funding issues. We dont see Police EMS (for general EMS, not specialty trained tactical) do we? So why is there a mentality that fire & EMS should be bundled together? -
You know the iPhone is like a penis. ood to ply with when you are on your own, but not at the dinner table.........
