What has been the most valuable thing you have learned on EMTCITY?

And even tho, for some strange reason, we still sort of like you mate. Retardations & all. -
This is off to a good start, she is already looking at 'the grind' as a chore. Maybe we married men should welcome mr eydawn to a life of chastity
-
We love you mate & it is if it means go @#&% yourself

I am still in shock that you firstly took a backward step & went to Canada , Second had time to see the sights & after all the counselling I gave you, still got married. Have you not seen how bitter, twisted & resentful people like tniuqs really are??????? Having said that, if you follow tniuqs's advice & be careful, he had a new telescope that attaches to his camera.....

You sure, someone said you were a rich man.......

The name tells you that it is an extrication device, it doesnt matter if it is a KED, RED, NEIJ, however, they are designed to be put on & left on, with releas to the legs for transport. A spine board by design is slippery, hard, & even when a person is properly 'secured' they will still move. The stretchers we use are rated for spinal patients, providing support, while still allowing for the natural cavities that appear to be supported. They are also very underutilsed, as you stated & it is laziness that causes that, but it is also pressure from managment pushing to reduce scene times, rather than pushing to ensure the job is done properly.

Firstly, some people hate it when I quote statistics, but in this case, they are relevant. I only have NSW stats for 2005, however, they are still relevant. In that year in excess of 66,000 people were treated for suspected spinal injury (the proper term is spinal cord injury & I will explain this shortly). Of those treated with this suspicion, based on mechanism of injury & presentation, less than 40 had a spinal cord injury. However, less than 1000 had a spinal injury. What is the difference I hear you ask??????? A Spinal Injury is an injury to the spine, but does not have to include the spinal cord. A person can have vertebrae fractures, with no spinal cord damage. Our job is to protect their spine, thus reducing the risk of spinal cord injury. Now lets also look at some other interesting facts. People think that a cervical collar will provide adequate immobilisation to the cervical spine. This is incorrect. It provides apporximatley 35% immobilisation. Head Blocks help & increase this percentage, the big one is the use of a KED. This will effectivley reduce spinal movment by approximatley 85-90%. Spine boards are an extrication device & can cause movment because of discomfort of the patient, expecially on extended transports. If you dont believe me, remove clothing down to what you would have on your patient, get strapped to a board & go for a drive. There are a lot of anatomical spaces that are not filled on a spine board. The use of a KED, also an extrication device, but far more suitable, addresses this & while not comfortable, will assist in minimising movement. The other consideration, in the protocols I have seen on this, is that each officer has an over riding say in clearance or not. If in any doubt treat as if they are.

Firstl, I did try to talk you out of it, but I am bitter & twisted. Most importantly, how the hell do you have time to invite the local Canadians for a drink when you are on your honeymoon. All I remember from mine is the bedroom had 4 walls, the bathroom had a spa & room service was dial 9. Phil

Isnt rotten.com enough for people to see that crap???????????? Death will always facinate people, no matter what we do, but it is stupidity like this that will lead to rules like carrying mobile phones with cameras banned etc. The stupidity of a selected stupid few will cause grief for the rest of us.

I have no problem with young paramedics. however, oz_paramedic_chick, cn I pont out that this refers to Intensive Care Paramedics, not, as we are here, generic Paramedics. There is no issue that younger Paramedics have a learning advantage of er oled, more mature people, however, the one thing the books will never teach is how to interact with people, how to talk to people. Distraction through conversation, as well as positioning can be as effective in pain managment of trauma as morphine. This only comes with life experience. Not all are in this boat, however there is a lot to be said for not entering EMS straight from school, but getting some life experience first.

A fella takes a blonde lady out to dinner for the first time this night and after they head off to a show. The evening is a huge success and as he drops her home he says 'I've had a lovely time. You looked so beautiful, you reminded me of a beautiful rambling rose. Can I see you again tomorrow?' She agrees . Next day he knocks on her door and when she opens it she slaps him hard across the face. He is stunned. 'What the hell was that for?' he asked. I looked up rambling rose in the encyclopedia last night and it said 'They are not well suited to bedding but are excellent for rooting up against a garden wall'

MacGyver, eat your heart out. What could the man do to help out poor old Chuck Norris with that baby!!!!!!! OMFG -
Timmy, I am proud to see you had the conviction to volunteer to go into he area. You have, in my opinion gone well beyond what most would expect. Well done. This has been a tragedy beyond what any of us could have ever expected. Seeing the numbers, at the time of writing this post, 181 dead is bad enough, however, to see the faces of the men womes, children & babies who perished in this blaze adds to the horror. Knowing that, without holding back, some low, weak piece of shit deliberatly lit some of the fires that took some of these lives makes me sick. I hope they are caught. I hope they are denied protective custody & they meet their maker in the most painful way possible. Phil

Firefighters union again asks to run KC’s ambulance service
aussiephil replied to CBEMT's topic in EMS News
Just another example of fire trying to justify their overfunded & underworked positions. Tell them to stay with what they are paid for, fighting fires, is they cant justify permanent positions, then make them go volly. HANDS OFF EMS. -
Fair call but how about these gems 'The vast majority of our imports come from outside the country.' - George W. Bush 'If we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure.' - George W. A husband and wife were sitting watching a TV program about psychology when he turned to his wife and said. "Honey, I bet you can't tell me something that will make me happy and sad, at the same time." She replied. "You have the biggest dick of all your friends."
