I am working 55-60 hours per week for a private service in the Denver metro area and making only marginally more than kemt217 in Kansas. Although certainly at the very low end of the pay scale compared to the majority of posters in this thread I would never give up my location for the higher pay.

My NREMT patch is a bookmark in a genealogy guide book.
My NREMT patch is on the fridge, I sure hope that qualifies me!

Here is a previously posted handy site called ER Glossary

My old partner got a new job. This leaves me to fill his old position (ALS instead of BLS-I'll have my I/99 in about a month). In the mean time I have to break in my new partner, who will continue in my old position. She just got her certs about a month ago. I think she's got good potential however she is very passive. If you ask her to do something she'll do it. Otherwise she just stands around. How do I get her to start being more confident and get us working as a team rather than the current situation? I understand it takes time to get used to a new partner especially if you are new to EMS but as it stands right now I need help to speed this process along. ANY suggestions would be appreciated!
Well it has been seven months how about an update as to how she is doing and what worked?

This Australian is about to be hanged in Singapore for attempting to smuggle 14 oz of heroin out of the country. I don't suppose that he was too worried about people injecting themselves with a tyrant at the time.

It seems that I read one time that firing squads would have one rifle loaded with a blank so that you wouldn't know for sure if you actually shot the person.

At this time I would be fine with being called an "ambulance driver."
Now if someone calls me an "unemployed ambulance driver,"............
thems fighting words!

ACE,
I do not have any experience to speak from yet, but from my training I would think this would be covered by the "M" or "E" in the SAMPLE questions. I would expect that some patients would not be forthcoming on their use of illicit drugs.

ACE,
That was quite the read! Certainly more in depth than Brady's 10 th edition. It would be nice to have it distilled down to a more basic level along side of the full presentation to help us basics better understand it.
Thanks!

This is getting tiresome, so let's drop it. I never said that EMS drivers were the worst drivers in the country or anything remotely like that. Off and clear...
Stephan
This is copied from your first post;
"EMS drivers are no better than the rank-and-file of American drivers, and we're the worst drivers in the world. "

Ace,
Links worked, good reads, thanks!
I can hardly wait to get some experience so I can post my perspective and then get slapped around by the Jedi Knights.

Thanks all for your replies!
Ace,
I couldn't get the links to work but did do a search.

"ptemt,"
Could you be abit more specific as to what you mean when you asked, "Please share your experiences as to how often you use an OPA or NPA"? Did you mean in one's career? Of all the airway's one has placed??
thanks,
Ace844
Ace844,
I'll try  ! I am interested in how often they are used at the BLS level on a weekly or monthly basis.
Thanks!

Please share your experiences as to how often you use an OPA or NPA and what percentage of each is typical in your work environment. I would like to hear from EMT-Bs and EMT-Ps, everyone, but please limit it to BLS and not choke the topic with intubation issues. Also interested in patient response. Thanks!

I agree. This is not just a job. When I met my husband he was a volunteer <a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emergency_medical_technician="postlink">EMT</a>-B working with the civil defense in our area. At the time his job was with Xerox Corp. Well, every time we would come upon an accident scene he would stop. As I watched him over the years I realised that this is part of who he is! But because he had the job at Xerox he let his certification go and continued on his career. He became increasingly unhappy. He felt that because we had a family that it was impossible for him to leave the job and go back to school. Last year we sold our home bought a motorhome and just traveled to Florida taking some time to unwind and think about our direction. One night we where on our way home from Kennedy Space center and just outside of Orlando we came upon an accident. It had just happened! We where the first to respond. This women had rolled her car and had head injury. I was on the cell phone with 911, the only problem was, I didn't know exactly where we where and other people wouldn't stop! It took sheriffs about 30 minutes to get to us, with the limited knowledge I had. 2 hours later after life flight picked up this girl and we got back into the car, I said to him "This is what you where meant to do" and he said he felt the same way. So, he went back to school, is now certitfied as a basic. I know this will drastically chage our lives. The income is much less than what he was making before but, he is very happy! That is what its' all about. There's nothing worse than going to a job every day that you hate.
Way cool!

Well okay, 1959 which makes me forty-sex years old. I just got my Colorado State Certification for EMT-B and am thrilled to be entering the profession. Looking at the poll results I see that I am currently in the TOP 12%.

I will be taking the National Registry written exam for EMT-B on June 9 and then hope to find some kind of part time work in the Denver area.

Yeah..........I put my patch on the refrigerator. The private service I work for has no interest in seeing it on their uniform.
