  1. Belated Happy Birthday. I hope you had a good one.
  2. I have four I know by name. EMS gets called, they bring them in to the nearest hospital which happens to be us. We put em in a gurney and tell them to sleep it off until morning. One usually gets a loading dose of Dilantin too because otherwise he will have seizures. If the others start to get the shakes, they get a mg of Ativan PO, then back to sleep until the morning when they are offered the services of the social worker. The only shelter is in downtown LA, which we KNOW they aren't going to go to. They end up walking out and come back within a few nights for another bed and breakfast treat.
  3. Finally a topic I learned something truly useful from. Thanks for posting this one. We were recently inserviced on the Zoll auto compressor at work for doing compressions during codes. I hope this device is a whole lot more functional and easier to deal with.
  4. A would be the correct answer. There are too many reasons for hyperventilation to state that it is "almost always" caused by psychogenic stress. D is a true response because most patients who hyperventilate due to anxiety finally slow down their own breathing by going to sleep. It's too much work for them to keep up that level of work. Poor babies. For the OP, if your instructor says C is the correct answer.. they need to re-educate themselves. This CAN and does happen, even though usually hypo-ventilation is the norm, Hyperventilation CAN and does occur. Not all OD's are narcotics. There are other substances that can cause people to hyperventilate.
  5. I can't imagine drinking that stuff.. but then again I have taste buds. We get suicide attempts in all the time but most of them are "trying to drink myself to death" or "I tried to take all my Xanax today" OD's which are pretty easy to deal with. Never had a caustic ingestion yet.. thankfully.
  6. wish granted.. now you have everyone chasing you trying to catch you for your pot of gold. I wish stupidity was illegal
  7. I get to stay lowly and not chat I guess.. I am not going to pay to chat on a site.. so if I get banned for not doing so.. so be it.. I enjoyed it while it lasted..
  8. Granted but it's the weight watchers' female nude beach and the participants are all over 300 pounds each. I wish nobody lied
  9. I had to agree with several of the guys points that he made.. like the one about her shoving so much food in her face because "the baby wanted it" .. NOT! Maybe she should have done this instead. :binky: .. would have been a lot more realistic! The first time I was pregnant I kept on working all three jobs until my doctor said I had to stop or possibly lose the pregnancy when I was 6 months pregnant. I don't recall one single episode of asking others to do something for me that I couldn't do for myself while I was pregnant with my daughter. I even helped split and stack 10 cords of firewood when I was pregnant with her. My daughter did do some things like help me tie my shoes when I was pregnant the second time. She was learning how to tie shoes and wanted to help.
  10. y'all are too late anyways.. I think scotty already procreated...*grin* :evil4:
  11. Wow..I go awol and miss all the good stuff.. thanks.. Ah well.. I might be back more often now anyways..
  12. I did do it.. and my kid was positive for more than they admitted to.. which was sad.. but necessary info for me. Good luck in whatever you have to do to deal with your situation. I know that when I asked for some input on the boards here I got slammed, but the solution that my son and I ended up with is working out for him. He's now drug free and doing great in school.. from non-attendance to straight A's.
  13. http://www.drjohnpryor.com/ Visitation information and condolences at this site.
  14. You are warped.. but we already knew that.. *grin*
  15. Dwayne.. she has patient contact obviously.. she needs to show a semblance of compassion, even if she doesn't feel it. I do it all the time because I work in an ER at a hospital with a psych ward. Some of the patients actually piss me off but I do my level best to treat them professionally even if I can't feel a whole lot of compassion for them. A good example is the patient who spent five hours offering to rip my head off and kill me while spitting at me. He was provided professional care but no..I didn't have a whole lot of compassion for him.
