  1. So for once, being a FF is a step BELOW being a medic?
  2. I love callthecops. They crack me up all the time.
  3. My wife hates internet videos but even she was laughing her ass off.
  4. Propofol and spark him up.
  5. It is not a medical procedure. Xray is just a form of technology used in many different fields by many non-medical people. You are also not forcing a physician who took an oath to force something upon someone without their consent. When you are dealing with the airport, you are giving consent by purchasing your ticket. I don't agree with a lot of the regulations but when I buy a ticket I know what I'm getting into. Sometimes the price of the ticket is worth it to get the groping.
  6. I don't know if there is any precedence. I would have real trouble with a court telling me to do something against someone's wishes, unless the person was unable to make an informed consent. When I was a resident, we had the jail bring in a guy they thought had smuggled drugs in his rear so they brought him in. When I discussed it with the attending he said that we could not force the pt to do anything and he was free to sign AMA. The corrections officers weren't happy but they understood. In the end, they just checked his stool with every BM and found the drugs.
  7. There is a small, publicly traded company called Organovo that is working on 3D printing of organs such as hearts, livers and kidneys. The technology seems to be sound and would change medicine in a way similar to antibiotics. Imagine no more dialysis, transplant lists, etc. Disclaimer: Yes, I own shares of Organovo.
  8. RING-RING-RING. Yes, this is Dr. ERDoc. I'm sorry we are having a communication failure and I cannot hear you. You will have to manage this pt on your own. See you soon. CLICK
  9. Thank you everyone. Island, my MIL was never really known for her timing, lol. Besides Thanksgiving, my wife and I have our birthdays in the next few days.
  10. My mother-in-law, Isabel Garcia, lost her battle with breast cancer tonight. She was a NYS EMT for almost 10 years. She was also an RN who worked dialysis for more years than I have been alive. She died peacefully with family at her side. RIP Issy, take a signal 5, we'll take it from here.
  11. Aw, dagnabit, now you made me spill my metamucil. (waits for Caduceus to google metamucil)
  12. I'm not old. It's normal to chase young kids off the lawn with a stick, right? Getting out of the car isn't so bad, it's finding the ones close to the ground. I take prophylactic Motrin before I go.
  13. Bite me, Mike.
  14. Welcome, from someone who almost became a Marylander.
  15. There was another article in one of the EM newspapers that talked about a study that, I believe, showed diversion worsened pt outcomes. I cannot find it right now but I'm sure it can be found on pubmed. EDIT: Maybe I was wrong about that, but I did find this: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23352752
  16. Raises hand and quickly puts it back down As for ex-girlfriends, I think it is a personal choice that needs to be agreed upon by both people in the relationship. As for me, I say hells to the no!!! Most of my exes are batshit crazy and the farther away the better.
  17. They wrote one or two other books also. Thanks for the old comment. The stories they right about happened when I started EMS.
  18. I sure as hell am not going to do it. If the officers were smart that would have just waited for him to unclench or fall asleep. He can't hold on to it forever. As for the questions about the PD asking EMS to do the blood draw, this has not been an issue in the 2 places I have worked. In NY, the PD had a PA on-call to do the blood draws that was a PD employee. He, the cops have to bring the pt to the lab, and by contract, a phlebotomist does the draw in the presence of the cop and suspect to maintain chain of custody.
  19. The family that pops Percs together, stays together. I'll have a leg, some mashed potatoes, stuffing and 2 of the 7.5s. It's funny how something such as a football game on TV can influence the ER volume. When Michigan and UofM played, the department was dead but within 2 hrs of the end of the game, we were full with people in the waiting room.
  20. Yeah, it has been a little slow lately. That other site (the one that shall not be named) seems to have quite a bit of traffic lately. I'm working and luckily with it being so cold, it keep most people home.
  21. So, am I the only one just sitting around, surfing the net on a Sunday night? It's pretty quiet in here.
  22. If you haven't ordered at least one thing from Galls, then we can't be friends. I did a quick search about Pat Ivey and apparently her son, David, who she talks about in the books took his own life a few years after the second book was written.
  23. I checked out the website for the agency she belonged to and there was no mention of her or the book. It's a pretty popular book in the EMS community (at least it seems), you'd think they would acknowledge her or the book. Just my opinion.
