  1. Bullets, maybe you can correct me if I am wrong, but the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986 allows FFLs to sell weapons at a show as long as they do a background check. However, the ATF states that only 50-75% of all vendors at shows are FFLs. The FOPA (1986) also allows those individuals who are "not engaged in the business" of selling firearms or those who only make "occasional" sales to sell any weapons without a background check. This would mean that 25-50% of all gun show sales are conducted without a background check. That's a pretty big loophole if you ask me.
  2. Good point. I guess movie theater is a relative term. If there is a fire it will probably from Dwayne doing "hand puppets" with the sheep and knocking over the lamp on to the wood wall of the shower building.
  3. The answer to this question depends a lot on your location. When I was a volley we were allowed to carry and use OPA/NPAs as they felt we were never truly off duty.
  4. And when a movie theater burns down tonight, we know who the prime suspect will be.
  5. Just hanging back until we get near the end of page 68.
  6. At what point do we stop searching them though? Are we going to start having them remove their shoes before allowing them into the ER? Underwear checks for everyone? I'll pass as there are some I don't even want to think about what may be contained in there and I'm not talking about bombs. Obviously, if something sets off your spidey senses, act on it.
  7. Best commercial ever. I just shipped the bed!
  8. This is not going to have much impact of CVA care as the CVAs we use tPA for are ischemic strokes, not hemorrhagic. I think it is better aimed at trauma care, although you will still need a CT scan anyway and here in the US, every hospital has a CT.
  9. ERDoc

    Surprise!

Congrats!! I know who you are but won't spoil it for the rest.
  10. CNN just said that there were 5 volley FFs and 4 emergency responders (which I am assuming is there word for EMS). Thoughts and best wishes go out to all of those that are affected.
  11. Island, I think this sums it up pretty well. Just like the Dems will never be in favor of true tort reform as the trial lawyers make huge contributions to their campaigns.
  12. Despite all of the talk and attempts at bringing change, I personally don't think anything will change. We have been such a gun obsessed country for so long that there are so many guns out there that you really can't do anything about it. We can ban things such as assault weapons (feel free to pick your definition) now but it will be decades (a century?) until it will have any affect as the guns that are already out there will stay out there. It is only when they start breaking down that any change will happen as there will no longer be a supply to replace them. I feel that we are spending a lot of time on an exercise in futility.
  13. I don't see a problem with it. If EMS/Fire can assess a possibly dangerous scene before hand, what is wrong with that? You could even send it on ahead for an MVA to see if you will need additional resources. I disagree with the article that you can triage pts ahead of time. It's hard to check a pulse from 500' up. It could also help with SAR or finding fires in remote areas. I don't think it will ever happen since drones have gotten such a bad rap from the big brother is watching crowd.
  14. We had a device rep from Physiocontrol come to the ER the other day and show us this new and amazing device called the Lucas2 CPR device. It's pretty impressive and fun to play with. As I'm pushing all of the buttons like a 5 year old in an arcade, a little flicker sparks in a dark part of my memory that says, "Hey, you've done this before." Suddenly the memory comes back, almost 20 years ago to the day, that I became Thumper certified. For those not old enough to remember, the Thumper was this barbaric CPR torture device that was all pneumatic and sucked down O2 tanks like no COPDer ever has. Here's a pic Ah the good old days of EMS. I still have my Thumper Certified patch hidden somwewhere. Funny how things change, yet stay the same.
  15. Bet you need to watch for splinters.
  16. Fever, back pain and neuro deficits. Uh oh, this is bad. Any hx of drug use?
  17. As the name implies, it is a reactive arthritis due to a distant mucosal infection. The pathophysiology is unclear but it seems to be a sterile inflammation of the joint. It can be polyarticular but usually involves large joints. It may be due to an autoimmune reaction, however bacterial fragments have been found in the synovium of affected joints.
  18. I had to google a few of my differentials but looking a little more I might not be correct with what I thought, especially if we are talking about Ukrainian butt slugs. I was thinking it was more of the Kamchatkan butt slug.
  19. OK, if you are just reposting something that has already been said, that is lame. If someone comes along and has something good to add, like I said, it can become an interesting thread. It's interesting over on SDN (sorry for mentioning another site) when someone does a necro-bump and you can see how contributors to the thread have changed over the years (such as going from med students to attendings).
  20. I think I know what you are talking about, but I am very curious to see if I am correct.
  21. Think there comes a certain point when necro-posts actually become interesting. If you necro-bump a few weeks/months it is annoying. If you necro-bump from a few years ago it can spark a new and interesting debate.
  22. Nothing in particular, I'd just like to get as much info about the pt hx as we can while we are setting up. I would not hold on the cardioversion.
  23. It says 592 on mine and Ruff your is 593.
