  1. I think he was trying to tell you that the more you post out in the net landscape just gives the other side more room and leeway for discovery if they do go to court.
  2. Or Judge Joe Brown
  3. You mean there are those kinds out there??????? Perish the thought. I thought they were all like Artesians, I seen em!!!!
  4. Asys, my friend would have never put me in charge of the majority of calls if he didn't fully feel confident in my skills and knowledge. WEre there a good many times that he jumped in and said "Do this instead or try this or why don't you think of this instead of this" and I was eternally gratefull for that guidance. He never let me fully run a code but he let me take the reins all the while he was right behind me sort of as my safety net. I as well jump in at the opportune times or the times when the forest is going to fall on the student and push or pull or point him/her in the right direction. I know good and well that it's not the students license they are practicing under, they are practicing under my licensure and also my medical directors license.
  5. kudos Ch I concur. Get the lawyer and then when the case over and you can talk about it you can fill us in on the details but until then, do what Casey Anthony should have done - stop talking about it.
  6. In my clinicals (many moons ago) that was a common criticism of me during my first couple of weeks of clinicals. The guy(a good friend) I rode with most often told me to buck up and run the fucking call like I was the lead medic. He said that I had one more shift to get my ass in gear and take charge. I returned to the service and rode with him again, I took charge of each call and ran it the way I saw fit and only a couple of times did my preceptor push me in a different direction. After two shifts my friend asked me how I felt. I told him really really good. I told him that I knew the process but was afraid to act on that process. Once I did act on it my confidence swelled and I felt completely at ease with myself and my abilities. It took a swift kick in the old ass to get me to change my focus from nervous to confident. At the end of my clinicals my friend said "you have gone beyond my wildest expectations and become one of those medics I want treating me" He also said that all the other preceptors I had worked under came to him asking what the change in Ruff was? They all were impressed with the change in me. So once you get some confidence it makes a world of difference. It did for me I have taken this to precepting new medics and new employees. Give them a couple of shifts to get acclimated and then make them realize it's their show and I'm only there for the ride and of course to save their asses when they go after the tree's instead of the forest when the call is only truly a forest.
  7. That is why I suggested maybe making it a class action suit. I know of several people who have worked for the company I'm assuming we are talking about and they have all been thrown under the bus like Rev Wright!!!!!!
  8. Keep trying to find that attorney. Have him press to get your bills paid and get you back on the healing path. keep records of all your phone conversations with the shitbags and keep your medical bills from all doctors and other places. If you have to purchase ibuprofen for the back pain, keep the receipt. If you need to purchase bengay rub - keep the receipt (no comments here guys) If you have to see a shrink - keep the receipts If you aren't able to have sex due to the injury then claim loss of companionship. the job did this to you, the job should pay for the injury and subsequent treatments. Keep looking for the right attorney, I'm sure you will eventually find one. These companies need to realize that even though the medic mills are pumping out medics left and right and they consider their employee's to be expendable, they can't work that way or someone's going to come in and take them to the cleaners and send them a clear message that they cannot treat their workers as chattel. If it is the company I work for I'll even join your class action as I was injured by their careless attention to their employees. Good luck, you deserve your injury to be paid for like anyone elses should be. Their refusal to talk to you proves that they know that they are wrong but they are stalling you until the clock winds down and you are not able to file a claim. I am not sure but that might be 2 or 3 years in some states. Get the lawyer sooner than later.
  9. Colleague - "I've been tasked to tell engineering what is wrong with the software in terms that Engineering will understand" Colleague to Engineering "It No Workie" Engineering - "So that's what is wrong with it"

  10. When you talk to the patient like a person instead of a patient then you see amazing things sometimes. Whodavthunkit
  11. Mike the above two points are key here. If you back says stop then STOP. If your gut tells you stop then stop. NO JOB is worth a permanent injury. If your body is saying STOP then by all means stop. If you can't get help from your dispatchers to get more help then call 911 and ask for fire assistance if possible. I had a call where we went in to a hospital ICU and were going to pick up a patient on a baloon pump. The transfer was a 20 minute drive to the heart center. The original hospital did these invasive procedures and then relied on EMS to transport the ones that didn't fit their criteria for keeping. I asked who was going with me and everyone there said "No-one" I said then I'm not transporting. They demanded I take this patient with a balloon pump that I had no idea how to work and say a hail mary. I called dispatch who told me to transport. I said NO I wasn't. I then talked to the supervisor who told me to transport. I refused. Finally I got a nurse to go with me reluctantly. On putting the patient in the ambulance the connector of the pump bent and we lost the balloon pump. A replacement was found and we transported. No other issues occurred but the nurse saved the day and the patient by agreeing to go with us to troubleshoot any problems. I got a yelling by the supervisor and I told him that I wasnt' jeopardizing my license to transport someone I knew that I might not be able to fix if the device failed. 2 weeks later the sending hospital provided us an inservice on the balloon pumps due to nurses throwing a fit everytime I got called over to transport the patient. They found it was cheaper to provide us training than to send a nurse along. The hospital now does open hearts and transplants so it's a non-issue anymore but It's all about my licensure. No license NO job NO supporting the family.
  12. that's true Dwayne, our free speech rights extend to only as far as admin deems to throw them. So if someone posts a truly inflammatory post and it gets deleted they better not cry a river or bitch out of both sides of their mouths because they really have no free speech rights on this forum, they are only given the amount of free speech that admin deems appropriate. I have had some of my posts deleted and was I upset, nah, not in the least.
  13. I was told today by an Atheist and a Democrat that if I was a christian I would be voting Democrat and for Obama. She said the only party who is doing christian things is the democrats. The republicans are working to take all social programs away and the democrats are working to keep them. Hmmmmmm who to believe?

  14. I always had problems with reading the book. Each time I got to reading it I ended up waking up a couple of hours earlier. The original Rufie if you ask me There were many times when I couldn't get to sleep at night that I'd whip out my ole 1994 version of the ACLS book (yes I still have that copy) and begin to read about acid base imbalance or some other topic and next thing I know my alarm is going off waking me up.
  15. I have found that if you can show the family members that the person is faking a seizure that it ramps up the dynamics 100 fold. Had a seizure patient one day, family freaking out. Patient tracked me all the way into the room and watched me dig around my med kit. I kept telling the patient "ok, I'm gonna start an IV on you, Is that ok?" and the patient would answer yes or no. I then said "I don't think your airway is secure so I need to intubate you, but I first need to paralyze you so I can put the tube in" and amazingly the patient came out of the seizure. I said to the patient "Aren't you ashamed of yourself faking a seizure and scaring your family half to death. Not to mention the calling of an ambulance and a fire truck to your house" The patient replied "I'm sorry" and he signed the refusal. As we were leaving all you could hear was the parents letting this dirtbag son of theirs have it for scaring them. Never got another call to his house. The best ones are the ones who fake so well that they tolerate a IO needle due to their veins being so mucked up that the only place is the IO needle hole from yesterdays EMS call. Now that's Dedication
  16. Your employer is and always will be a PIECE OF SHIT Get a different attorney, file a lawsuit and go after their asses. If you can get a group of past employee's together think maybe about making it a class action lawsuit. I'll bet I know what bottom feeding company you worked for but I won't say because if they are reading this they could construe it to be slander or libel.
  17. So the troll came out for the new years?
  18. ARe you on the right thread Bernhard?
  19. Yeah, kept saying user name invalid. So I deleted the app. I realized that if I had it on my phone that I would be spending more time on EMT City and that's not what I'm planning on doing this year.
  20. Has anyone used the rack workout system? Im looking to maybe get it but want to be sure it works.

  21. Ever since tapatalk did an update I have not been able to log in. I think that tapatalk is a piece of crap.
  22. I think getting rid of the EMT certification and just having a paramedic certification. Make it a degree'd program. If that's too drastic, keep the EMT cert for the people who don't want to become medics. Just allow those who want to go to medic school enroll in medic school without having to go through emt school first. Leave the EMT for the firefighters who have to have emt for their jobs but never plan on going onto medic school.
  23. OK now ATT Uverse is really really pissing me off. They have a free preview going on from Jan 1 through jan 7 and it's not happening at the the Ruff house. Jenny's on hold with customer service and we'll see but I'm not hopeful. Comcast will be here Wednesday morning to make all my ATT problems go away.

  24. Richard, what Utopia are you living in???? ha ha But seriously, I'm off New Years Eve and plan on staying in watching my new 42 inch 3D ready Vizio television and watching Tron, Thor and Other 3D movies with the family all the while eating Cocktail weenies, drinking copious amounts of Barqs Root Beer and chips and dip. So stay strong my friends in EMS who have to work with the dregs of society and of course patients as well.
  25. You know, I was tending to agree to a point with you until you throw out this useless bullshit which is often your MO. That statement is inflammatory and incorrect I have many many hetero friends and none of them have abbandoned their wife and kids. That's like saying that most of you homo's like to meet up in the gay bar and have sex with many partners and contract AIDS or some bullshit like that. It's arguments like the above quoted post that lend credence to the opinion on this board that you are a mindless troll with nothing better to do than fan the flames of discontent. I know at least 10-12 gay couples who have adopted a child and within a year of their adopting this child 8 of those relationships have ended and at least 3 of those relationships have ended up with one partner abbandoning the other partner and leaving them without support. so the door swings both ways my friend. Just because the heteros do it doesn't mean that the homo's don't also do this.
