Actually you kind of are a germophobe if you go to the lengths you do to keep hands off of places that they shouldn't go. But I admire your perseverence. I can say I'm not nearly as cautious as you and I have never had a serious illness nor have I had a cold this year

Dang, Flaming, paranoid or something? jk I don't use public restroom sinks either, I use hand sanitizer but unfortunately that's not always available and I don't carry a bottle around with me in my pocket. I sometimes will use the sinks in public restrooms but I always turn on the sink using a papertowel. Then turn off the sink with new towel after drying my hands with a different towel. But let me ask you this, do you go out to eat in restaurants? And there is a more personal question I have but I'll leave it un asked,

Actually I never was trained on this technique, I thought it was just common knowledge that you didn't use your hand to check temperature. My mother and my grandmother always used the back of their hands or their forearms to check my temps, so that's how I have always done it and trained people to do so.

Yeah, its even more fun to watch them try to figure out how to get further under your skin. If you keep acting professional and do the job you were trained to do then they will eventually go away to find someone else who they find weak and easily attackable. Because when you ask em an easy question they shrug their shoulders and when you tell them the answer that even a 3rd grader would know, they slap their foreheads. Those are sometimes more infectious than many of my patients I see on a shift by shift basis.

Here is what I told my son when he was faced with bullies in his school I first told him to tell the bully this "Shut up, your opinion means nothing to me" and then walk away Second, if the bullying continues look the bully in the eye and say "I'm done with you and the next time you act this way I'm going to the prinicipal" Third, if he feels he's in danger "kick some ass" Well that's what youh ave to do. Just ignore the troll and he will find someone else to abuse. Document each time he's been an asshole and threatening or abusive to you. Note any witnesses. Once you have your ducks in a row, go to the chief. Tell him he has to do something with this guy, tell him you have multiple incidents documented on the agressive and abusive behaviour and if it doesn't stop immediately, you will file a hostile work environment complaint and refer it to your attorney. once you take that step be prepared for a fight. The old knuckle draggers who are his friends are going to try to eat you up and spit you out and try to make you the bad guy/gal here, which of course dirtbags stick together. Stand your ground and don't back down. It's gonna get rough if you take it this far but sometimes you have to be the bigger person and get rid of the dinosaurs, I mean global warming got rid of the dino's, you can too.

But what if it's not cub scouts but just a group of boys and two adults. That would be the more plausible one. Because my son is in cub scouts and if he goes camping then I have to go with him. If I can't go them I have to get another family member to go with him because they won't let him go by himself. Boy scouts, a differenct story.

Flaming, that's been done. you can go to any CVS and buy one near the pharmacy I put together something like this 15 years ago but it was on a 3.5 inch floppy disk. Remember those? All you had to do was put the disk in the computer, go to the disk and click Run.bat and all the patients info was there. Never went commercial but my family and close friends and those patients who had many medical issues were given this and it was immensely helpful. There were about 35 people who got these. At that time it was so insanely expensive to set up any type of national database that I didn't pursue it but I see that I probably had the idea long before those who are making a crap load of money had the idea. Lost opportunities, oh well.

Take the camping gear, the jump kit and several of the cub scouts who are responsible enough to help you. Make sure you leave enough older cubs to stay with the younger cubs. YOu did say you were leading a cub scout troop or pack right? Gotta leave enough supervisors to supervise the young ones. From there it's whatever the older cubs can carry safely.

Same instance for me Herbie. Had a guy come ot the ER after getting his ass handed to him in a bar fight. Bilat black eyes, busted nose etc etc. Refused to be admitted for observation. Fast forward 24 hours, got a 911 call on a man not acting right. My partner said "he's probably drunk" or on drugs. I get in the house, the guy is out of it. I remember him from the ER and I treated him that night. History fits that it's a bleed. Partner disagrees but I say no get the helicopter and let's send him to a trauma center. Put him in the bird, they thought easy flight. 8 minutes out from trauma center patient seizes, goes unresponsive, flight crew RSI's and patient arrives to trauma center. Emergency CT scan shows egg size subdural and they evacuate it but it was too late. Patient died from the injuries the next day. He never lost consciousness. My partner said that he had never seen something like that and was a little miffed that he assumed alcohol and or drugs. I told him that this is why we never assume and we never diagnose in the field prior to seeing the patient.

I would caution anyone who wants to comment on this thread that remember what they put Admin and other sites through, I have seen countless times companies like this who seem to be in their collapse come back with a vengeance and retaliate through other means. Actually the call was in mid july. So he didn't need any warming the temp I think was enough to make me sweat through my shirt. Needless to say, I emptied my narc box out prior to getting him to the helipad

DWayne, didn't they teach you in EMT School that load and go trumps fixing the life threats any day of the week? Sounds like had you not have found the art bleed the patient would have been bleeding pink fluid. I had a similar incident with a motorcyclist who hit a metal sign post at 45 miles per hour direct in the middle of his spine. On fires arrival all I could hear on the radio was "hurry the hell up EMS" The guy was basically bent in the middle of his spine at about a 40 degree angle. Any movement of any sort elicited major pain screams. On our arrival found that fire was trying to package this guy the normal way by packing under his back enough towels to keep the spine in the allignment in order for me to put him in the ambulance and going. I disagreed with their thought process. I told them to stop and they got really pissed. We ended up packaging him on his side with lots of padding to support his spine (he severed his spinal cord at t9). Would their packaging have caused more harm than good, can't tell for sure. But I say mine helped him more because my method decreased his pain while their method of packing him was causing him extreme pain.

It's true, I heard it from a friend of a friend who has a very good friend who's a medic at a very awesome ems system who heard it from one of his friends who attended that cap lab who said that he heard if from Dwayne and Wendy but Dwayne and Wendy disavvow all knowledge of this one but they do know a person who might know a doctor or some mumbo jumbo of a scientist who actually might have seen the suspected leeching happen while using his electron microscope which was later determined to be defective in it's results and he determined that it's an old wives(medics) tale.
