  1. It takes 2 emt's and 1 medic to change our lightbulbs.
  2. What your system needs is a liaison with the receiving hospitals. I know of one person who is a good friend who was specifically hired at a consortium of 8 hospitals to be a EMS to ER to EMS liaison. Her main job is to interface with the local and far out EMS Systems and provide them info on the patient. I know that in Wichita you have at least two hospitals and the biggest hospital of those would be the best place to start. You've always wanted to expand your skill set and repertiore, why don't you promote that type of position in your department. Michael
  3. Actually that was a strong statement on my part but I don't want a medic or emt who is deathly afraid of dogs to turn tail and run thus leaving me alone with the patient thus putting me into some level of risk. Sure I can take care of a patient alone with the best of them but I have had a emt leave a scene quickly due to getting scared by a medium sized dog, thus leaving me to take care of a critical patient with no help until someone put the dog away. So no they are not qualified to work in EMS if the crew is just me and my partner and they let their fear of the dog take over helping me. Leaving me alone with a critical patient where I didn't know where they went was very very disconcerting. I would never enter a home with a large dog if it isn't put up in a room but to leave me with that patient colored my opinion on this area. I have fears but I don't leave patients like that partner did to me.
  4. In a round about way I was saying that. It seems to me from the description that the military section is basically book number 2. So you get book number 1 with the PHTLS stuff for non-military medics and then start part 2 of the book and learn military style shit and stuff like that, maybe you can blow stuff up? It's like getting 2 books in one and the price is right, just 11 Euros more, that's 15 pages per euro.
  5. My ideal weight would be 6'1 and 250. I think if it was any lower than 250 and I'd be sickly looking and jsut a bag of bones.
  6. My readin of the description is that the 2nd one is specifically for the military as it pretty much says so in the description. Which one do you want, more content or less? But the 2nd one. Plus you are really only talking 11 more euros to get the 2nd one.
  7. That's just it, that entire church group that pickets, works for the church. they have no one to hold them accountable. Let me ask you this- do you want to work with this guy? Would you find it extremely difficult to work with him if you knew of his extreme views on gays? Would you want to work with an overtly racist medic or emt? One that puts that crap on their facebook page? would you want to work with an openly gay person who bashes straights on their facebook page? Or the black person who open bashes whites on his page? I honestly don't want to work with any of them thus I am sure is the reason why the department is taking this type of stand. I don't support at all what he writes, I don't like it when someone posts something like he did. I openly tell people in their posts on facebook that they are crossing the line. If they continue, then I defriend them and send them a message why I defriended them. I have done this at least 10 times in the past year. Someone who I thought I knew then showed their true colors on their facebook or myspace page. It's just too difficult to try to navigate those waters. Gives me a headache and I have chronic headaches over the past month or so, so I just defriend them, one less headache.
  8. Hey at least he's honest in his opinion no matter how imbecilic. And thank goodness he's consistent. Not only on departmental pages but his own. The can fire me all they want. I can as well fire them. But like I said, I would not work for a company that had such restrictive requirements. What I post on my facebook page would bore the normal person to death, it's like the talking to a dining room table comment i made earlier, you would say that after reading some of my posts.
  9. I'd have a hard time working for a company who says I cannot post this or post that on a personal page as long as it does not point to my company then I have an issue with them saying what I can and cannot post but you are right Mike. I do know that I'm writing a book that is in it's first couple of chapters. I specifically have brought a 2nd laptop on my travels and do all my work on that laptop because my company can say "you wrote the book on the company laptop so we want the proceeds of the book" since I used their laptop. I don't know of any company that would do that but some will. I write the book on my personal laptop and I'm good. But I'd be very leery of a company dictating what you can and cannot post on your private time especially when it does not involve work related issues. That is a company I would not work for for a million dollars, well maybe a million, I'd just get a nomme de Pleume.
  10. I mean Bush stole the election way back then, and the supreme court allowed it to happen. You mean that type of honesty or fraud.
  11. You just can't cure stupid. It would be nice to have a stupid fixing pill but it doesn't exist so you just have to keep transporting these people. disclaimer - I can't open the site because my public internet provider I'm using right now blocks this webpage.
  12. Recently there was a forum post that went out to about 2500 people if they have their notifications turned on right. If they don't then it went to about 1000 people. Many of these people on this forum have many years of experience and multiple degrees and even those with MD's and doctorates read these forums. This is the forum post in its entirety of which I only removed references to companies and actual names. "Sicme i was introduced to issue collector by yourself we have foun it a great tool, id be interested to know more how we can understand the files you collect to see if we can see if we can do anything ourselves. Is there any guides on using the files? to troubleshoot issues that may caued locally?" This is similar to what I see on the run reports that I review. And this person had spell check available to him unless he chose to ignore the responses to his errors. I know what this person was asking but some out there would not and would wonder what kind of idiot is putting this kind of drivel out. So this is a word of caution to use spell check and review what you post as you can see, it will sometimes make you look uneducated and could color your colleagues opinion of your skillset and knowledge base. 13. Or a box of chocolates.
  14. I also have not seen her in Chat so maybe not a complete troll. Add the chat room to her repertoire and title "Troll dujour" is claimed.
  15. Of course she's a troll. I'll bet she is really a 42 year old fat guy who still lives in his mothers basement playing solo D&D all the while eating Cheese curls and drinking Tab soda.
  16. I guess you didn't read what I wrote!!!! Here it is for you. We had a faint ECG heartbeat that we thought might be the babies. We coded her, transported her to the ER and requested Surgeons and OB nurses in the ER when we arrived. They were all there on our arrival.
  17. I'd like to be Catherine Bells or Cote Di Pablo's personal medic, masseuse and personal companion stand in. Screw it if they are on benzo's or pain killers, they can do whatever the hell I want them to do, er I mean they want to do. IF you don't know who Cote is, she plays Zeva on NCIS. She's yummy.
  18. An actual post to a professional forum. "Sicme i was introduced to issue collector by yourself we have foun it a great tool, id be interested to know more how we can understand the files you collect to see if we can see if we can do anything ourselves. Is there any guides on using the files? to troubleshoot issues that may caued locally?"

  19. Why would I do a emergency c-section on a patien, way beyond my level of comfort. I don't remember being trained to do that. I would actually have no clue how to do it. Are you advocating that you would do it? There is a whole story to the on scene c-section that I have shared here in the past but to suffice it to say, my friend had a physician on scence guiding him through the procedure. The physician just couldn't get into the car to do it himself. The car was upside down in a ditch with about a 2 foot area for one person to crawl into the car. The car was basically wedged between the sides of the ditch. So there was no more than 1 person getting into the car at one time. Now if I had guidance via a physician outside the car telling me how to do it I would do it though.
  20. No harm in that. Now if only Amy Winehouse would have had a private duty medic. And Conrad Murry just got 4 years in prison. Bend over Conrad and do the moonwalk.
  21. As a basic I would not have taken this patient. Cardiac drips and meds and all that stuff being taken off cold turkey is a recipe for disaster as any medic would tell you who's worth their salt. I would have requested an ALS ambulance for transport. Even though nothing happened what if it would have, you have no history on this patient, the hospital staff are assholes for not giving you any help or info on this patient. I would have definately called the receiving facility and given them the info that you had no info for them and the drugs were taken off the patient. That doctor would definately have had a issue with this I am sure. (maybe not though) This call sucked and you were doing the suckage because you were in the middle. but you do the best you can with the info and circumstances given to you and when given lemons, make orange julius's. I'll bet that trying to argue with the nurses at the original hospital would have been like trying to talk to a dining room table. I would definately lodge a complaint to the administration of the hospital. I have done that several times
  22. I run at least a mile 3 times a week. I trained for a 5k and ran it. I do not do much in strength training though because I do not belong to a gym or have weights at home. Cardio is what I do almost exclusively. I'm pretty happy with my regimen when I actually get off my couch potato butt and do it.
  23. I second the motion for EMS-ce IN the state of Missouri you can use all of their content in your relicensure and they have enough content to constitute at least two refresher classes. I had 150 hours of CEU's I had to take three years ago and the state of missouri accepted all 150 hours from EMS-CE for my relicensure. I had to get ACLS and PALS and CPR elsewhere but I was good for relicensure. It cost me I think like 100 bucks or so for unlimited hours. Of course if you are nationally registered, then you are sort of screwed out of using all of the options at EMS-CE in education components unless they have relaxed their restrictions on online courses.
  24. On the road of experience, I'm trying to find my own way. Sometimes I wish that I could fly away When I think that I'm moving, suddently things stand still I'm afraid 'cause I think they always will And I'm looking for space And to find out who I am And I'm looking to know and understand It's a sweet, sweet dream Sometimes I'm almost there Sometimes I fly like an eagle And sometimes I'm deep in despair All alone in the universe, sometimes that's how it seems I get lost in the sadness and th...
